I first had this problem four years ago. At first I thought I had a severe yeast infection. When it didn't go away after using Canasten,I went to the doctors.Because of my age (I'm over 50) I was given Vagifem and was put on the progesterone only contraceptive pill. It eventually went away, and I thought it gone for good, but this year it was back with a vengance. I got to the point where I couldn't sleep, and if I did sleep,I would dream that I was either buying some sort of ointment for it,or going to the doctors. It was bad. Anyway,I went back to the doctors, and was given some steroid cream. It didn't really help,so I went back.Saw another doctor, who did a swab, and gave me some pessaries to use for three nights....guess what?...It didn't work either. So,once again,I went back, and saw another doctor. He told me that the swab had come back clear, and gave me yet more steroid cream. Then he asked me if it was keeping me awake at night.I said it was, and he prescribed me the antidepressant Amitriptyline, though he said he wasn't prescribing it as an antidepressant. He said that it works on the nerve endings, and may help with the itching. It is now the 6th night of taking them, and I am happy to say that the itching has virtually gone. Not saying this is the answer for everybody, but if it helps even one person with this awful condition,it was worth me putting this up.

Everyone, if you have been tested for all the basics such as yeast infections, stds's , etc and you are still at a lost....did you look up "Vulvodynia" , "PNE" , "Vulvar Vestibulitis" " bartholin cyst" or "Interstital Cystitis"? All different diagnosis, so please read each one carefully. I took me a long time to find these disorders myself, so I am passing on a gift to you all who never heard of it yet. Before you gets your hopes up, there is no cure for any of these except maybe the bartholin cyst. However, I'm not a doctor so dont take my word for it. At least you have different avenues to take now. Good luck ladies and I feel all of your pain. Been there, done what you all are doing and still doing it after years. What a devestating, devestating condtion for a woman to have prolonged vagina problems.

i have had similar vaginal itch for almost two years and my family doctor and gynecologist prescribed me different creams and oral medication. nothing worked.....there were nights were I could not sleep as I had continue to scratch and there was so much discomfort. After several trips to the doctor's office, she finally said to me why not try "tea tree oil". I ignored her advice a few times and when I finally bought a bottle of tea tree oil, boy, did I wish that I had bought it a lot earlier. Tea tree oil works the best ..it is better than all what was prescribed to me..this is natural and no chemicals at all.. as soon as you apply it anywhere where there is itch, you get a soothing relief...it also helps subside my hemorrhoids...so ladies i feel your pain but would like to share this inexpensive oil and hopefully it will somehow give you relief.. my itchiness has not totally gone but i do feel a lot better and no constant scratching.

I did actually try the tea-tree oil, but I'm afraid it didn't help me at all, in fact it irritated my skin more, though that's not to say it may not work for anyone else. It is a natural & healing oil, and I always have some to hand. I have now been on the Amitriptyline tablets for almost 2 months, and I can say that my itch problem seems to have now gone, and my doctor has put these tablets on a repeat prescription for me. Again, this may not be the answer for everyone else, but I was beginning to give up hope of ever finding an end to this awful problem. Having to pay out monthly for a repeat, is fine with me, as I was spending money on lots of creams & other potential remedies.

I found a tip about soaking a tampon in salt water and insert it for an hour and it took care of the problem.
I think I got it from my community indoor pool

Hi ,
I have experienced this itching before couple of years ago, Gyno said it was some type personal hygiene product
i used or change in laundry detergent. I recently goofed up and used the wrong detergent end of December 2012.
I have been itching the past 3days. When I bath I tried plan water the first couple nights, then last night i poured a little peroxide in tub applied Vicks Vapor rub to cool the itching and burning each night. I do not sleep in under to give the area a chance to dry out enough and allow Eucalyptus from Vicks to Work (Very Soothing). Will add baking soda to next bath No peroxide I pray it goes away.!!! I am glad I realized it was the laundry detergent right-a-way.!!!
I hope this helps

EVERYONE-- I know this might sound weird, but try eating yogurt every day. I know i know it sounds weird! But I experienced itchiness every single day, and apparently had "nothing wrong with me", and it was recommended to me to try eating yogurt DAILY. I tried and gave up when I didn't see any immediate results, having only eaten small portions irregularly until the tub expired. After months of continued agony I tried again with renewed hope, and after eating about a cup of plain greek yogurt, with agave/honey/maple syrup and granola in it, I started to notice the itchiness went away! Amongst other benefits, such as better digestion. In the first weeks when the itching was really severe, I even went as far as direct application- like, literally smoothing plain greek yogurt over my lady bits as if it was cream. Immediate relief. I haven't bought yogurt in probably a month and have noticed some slight irritation down south, and am going to start up my regiment again, see if it really was the cure to my problems before, but i'm pretty convinced!
It cant hurt to try, it worked for me it may work for you!
