Hi, i am an 18 year old college student. I have had rumbling/vibration sensations in my rectum for about 2 and a half years now. I have seen more than 6 different doctors including 3 gastroenterologists and 3 pediatricians. I just do not think the doctors understand or are overthinking the situation. I describe it as vibrations or rumblings in my rectum. Sometimes going to the bathroom helps, but somtimes I go and just gas, diareha, or nothing comes out. At first my doctor started me off with laxitives and drink mixes such as miralax and metamusel thinking that i was just extremely constipated. Sometimes those helped, but my problem would always make a comeback regardless if i used them. I have been tested for fructose, lactose, gluten, and celiac disease but all tests are negative. Since i know some of these tests arent very reliable I still tried to take these food categories one by one out of my diet. My doctors have issued xrays, ultrasounds, colonoscopys, endoscopys, blood tests, but do not know what my issue is. One of my doctors thinks i have IBS which i think could be part of it, but IBS is such a generic way to describe my symptoms especially since they dont know how to fix them. One thing i feel i know forsure is that my rumbling sensations are worse and more frequent when I am stressed and constipated. In addition when i eat less processed foods, like stuff with lots of cheese, pasta, bread, hamburgers and foods like that the gassiness and vibrations tend to be worse. I should also mention that the vibrations in my rectum tend to go hand in hand with my growling and rumbling stomach. Its so awkward becuase i could be in class and all the sudden you will hear a noise like my stomach is growling (and sometimes it is) but often that noise is coming from my rectum. Its so hard to concentrate when I have this uncomfortable feeling going on. Lately ive been trying an upandup probiotic and fiber pills along with senna cott and colase, but those dont seem to be helping either. I was thinking of trying a pre-biotic, my mom heard about that on the Dr. Oz show. If anyone is going through something similar like this, please let me know or if anyone has any good tips or doctors.
thanks

There are a few fad IBS diets around. Some seem to work. My suggestion is google 'FODMAP', follow that diet (it's hard) for a while and see if things change. Then slowly reintroduce foods and see what happens. The best test is always to change diet and see what happens.
This assumes you're not eating too many artifical sugars, chewing gums, legumes or other gassy foods and are eating enough fiber each day. Also as you havn't mentioned stool I assume they move easily, you can get your pooping done in under a minute, poo less than 3 times a day and the poo comes out in lumps (not gravy or spheres).

I've had the same problem for couple years, and have not found a solution. It has made it hard to sit in class and socialize with friends especially when it's quiet. I have considered that it might be a gluten intolerance but I haven't checked

Vibrations, Rumblings, Gassiness In My Rectum.
Fructose malabsorption is a common cause of irritable bowel syndrome symptoms, such as abdominal pain, gas and changes in bowel movement frequency and consistency.
Even though fructose is found in many fruits and sweeteners, a variety of foods is allowed on a fructose-restricted diet.
Although all fruits contain fructose, the fructose-restricted diet only eliminates foods that contain more than half of their sugar in the form of fructose, such as watermelon, apples, cherries, mango and pears. Dried fruits and fruit juices are also not allowed. However, most people can tolerate a limited number of servings of low-fructose fruits, such as
bananas, blueberries, strawberries, kiwifruits and citrus fruits, especially if spaced throughout the day.
All protein-rich foods are safe on a fructose-restricted diet, unless they are prepared with fructose-containing ingredients. Choose fresh, plain red meat, chicken, turkey, fish and seafood. Eggs and cheese are also appropriate low-fructose options. Avoid any protein source that is marinated or served in sauce that is likely to have high-fructose ingredients, such as honey or high-fructose corn syrup. Mango salsa, applesauce or dried fruits often served in salads or as accompaniments to protein dishes are not safe for people with fructose malabsorption.
White potatoes, sweet potatoes, plantains, yucca, oatmeal and quinoa are excellent sources of carbohydrates that fit a fructose-restricted diet. Prepare them yourself to make sure that they do not contain high-fructose ingredients. If you want something sweet for dessert, low-fructose fruits and dark chocolate are healthy choices. If you want to bake, avoid sweeteners like honey, agave syrup and high-fructose corn syrup and use sugars that contain less fructose, such as maple syrup or table sugar. Keep an eye on the amount of sugar you consume, because even safe sweeteners can cause symptoms if consumed in excessive amounts.
