Hi,
Just wanted to thank you guys for all your feedback.

It's 6 weeks now and I think that I am 99% back to normal.  Still sniffling a little and coughing intermittenly (not major).

Interestingly, I did not get the info about probiotics from here, but heard about people who were taking it for one reason or another so many times that I decided to get some for myself.  Expensive, yes...but I only take 1 TBL/day.  I've been doing this for a week.  Amazingly, I think that it has affected me positively.   I might take this stuff for the rest of my life.  Everything feels better.

It comes in a bottle and is called "Probiotic" Inner-Eco and costs $15.  But it lasts a month because you take a very small dose.

Thanks everyone for encouraging me that this "thing" would go away.  I thought I'd have the flu forever and wasn't sure I wanted to live like this !!!

Hey there I started with viral conjunctivitis for 2.5 weeks was given topical steroids to clear it up then got really sick as well vomittin diarihea etc swollen glands terrible fever even though felt really cold! Worst of it all had the flu jab in the nov and now this was early jan I was feeling this way! Began to think end of jan that I had turned a corner had a private MRI on brain and ct scan on sinus all came back good news inc lungs being clear but blood tests came back signs of trace of pneumonia and positive for herpes simplex

1 no one even mentioned these to me it's only I noticed it myself because I asked for the blood test results they were quite extensive blood tests that was like 700 pound! Anyway thought I felt better than crash again sick diarrhoea fever! I then had a colonoscopy and gastroscopy as thought maybe came from my stomach all came back clear and told its just a long virus but my god the fatigue I get is horrendous Ali

Along with the swollen glands it comes in waves about four times a day there are times I feel almost normal and then there it goes again! I have lost 2.5 stone and my appetite is gone docs are not much help saying its post viral fatigue but my eyes are still do itchy and have a film over there I know there is still infection there and reckon that's what is dragging my body down! I'm now trying second day on anti viral drug asicilvor just hoping this will work and maybe it is herpes in my eye as I have never ever had a cold sore In my life and considering I tested positive I'm trying to treat the cause! I have even had a course of anti biotics done

Nothing! And now have lower back pain and to add to my wo,s I can smell like a real strange smell in my nostrils like stale smell! I am now on Prozac to try to keep my upbeat and the docs say it will pass all consultants have said its a virus that can last a while and that I am healthy! Really! I feel anything but I have a young son and am struggling!!!!! I still remain active even though I crash theoughout the day I really want to exercise but dread it in case it worsens my condition can anyone help I've tried all sorts co enzymes all vits pro biotics inc the yoghurts morning and night like that lady suggested I longgggggg to feel normal! I do sleep though when I go to bed so that's why I'm hopeful I don't have -me- do u think steroids would help!?

I got what I thought was a flu, then I got bronchitis. I was given the Zpack. I thought that I was getting better but this cough has never gone away, my stomach aches, I have diarrhea and I just feel sick all the time. When I started painting the fence when I felt better I got exhausted after no time and had to go lie down and I got sick again. When I felt better a week later I rode my bike and got sick again. It's been almost two months now. For one who typically has few social events to attend, of course, NOW there are plenty and I have to miss each one: I just feel TOO sick! I went to the doctor twice. My blood is fine and urine. I don't know what to do. This is NOT going away and I don't hear anyone talking about it on the news, like warnings of this new long-time flu. I feel awful and like I can't do anything. I don't want to sleep all the time but it seems like that's what I end up doing and I hate it. I just went through cancer treatment a few years back and I want to be feeling NOT sick and up and around. This whatever it is is running my life as much as the cancer had.

I am sick of going to the doctors who act as if you are just bothering them with a simple flu!!!!!

get a blood test for MONONUCLEIOSIS.

Lasts a long time, viral, many symptoms, vague but debilitating at times, just as many on this post describe.

No "cure" for viruses, but several tablespoons of pure coconut oil(contains lauric acid) for 4 days acts as an antiviral.

Try ginger root...

I had a stomach virus that went on too long for me. I was vomiting stomach acids, which irritated my throat pretty bad, couldn't eat, couldn't even lay down in bed because it would trigger that vomiting sensation... The feeling would go on for about a week, then Id feel better for 2 days, then it would hit me pretty hard again for another week or so. Anyway, went to the doctor, who basically told me it was viral, and to wait it out until my body recuperated on its own, and that there really was not medication for it. He prescribed some antacids and suppositories for the nausea (which DID NOTHING FOR ME...lol). I couldn't miss anymore days of school (about 5 weeks), so I took some action. I read about ginger root, and ran to the store. Peeled a large chunk, boiled it in hot water for under 10 mins, and drank it throughout the day for a couple days (I still wasn't eating at this point, only a ritz cracker here and there). Im not really the type to do things like this but I was pretty desperate and had to get back to class. Unbelievably, I started to get ALOT of mucus and coughing up really nasty stuff, then got a really bad case of sinusitis and a little bit of pink eye. I read that these are all signs that your body is getting over a viral infection, which lasted about another week. Ill never underestimate the power of ginger. I'm not saying that its going to fix your problem, but it cant hurt to try either. By the way, that ginger water was pretty spicy... :)

I've been battling sinusitis, ear infection, larygitis. Got a round of methyprednisone and Ceftin. Finished it a few days ago. The throat is getting better, but am still so fatigued. All I want to do is sleep. From all the medication I've taken my stomach is a mess. Today I was watching an infomercial and said that sublingual B12 and Vitamin D helps with fatigue. With the weather being so fluxuating in the Midwest, haven't been getting the D from the sun (what sun?). After I took it this morning have had more energy. Make sure you take plenty of PROBIOTICS as well. Because your health comes from your gut!!!

Reading this has upset me.

I live in SF.  I rarely get sick.  A month ago I began having typical feelings of the flu as I remember them.  It started with a sore throat.  It hurt to swallow.  Then, it seemed to travel downward to my chest with congestion and a cough with lots of phlegam.  Soon after I had a mild case of diarhea.  I really thought that I was at the tail end of it when it just started all over again.

Right now, it hurts to swallow again.  I'm constantly blowing my nose.  And the most frustrating part is feeling so fatigued and tired that I'm not able to do much (that I need to do) and I spend a lot of time sleeping.  Sometimes I think it might be getting better.  At other times, it is as bad as the day it started.

I have never had a fever with this, but all in all it has been bad enough.  My Dr. just said it would have to run its course after speaking with him over the phone - but now - it is affecting my life so much (what life?) that I felt that maybe I ought to be seen.  What if it's walking pneumonia?  What if it's strep throat?  Yet I get the feeling it's viral and not antibacterial.  Why does  my throat hurt so much on both sides.

I got this flu right after I had a problem with a gum that swelled up and was infected.  That's OK now (for now) and I wonder if it could be related.

I have never felt like this for so long and I don't know what to do.  If someone told me I had to live like this forever, I don't think I'd want to !!!!

What can I do?  Please help.

My taste and smell is OK. My sore throat is getting better, but at times it flares up again. I've found that taking children's 1 tablet dissolvable Allegra a day helps. It could be that an allergy could be prolonging your recovery. Also using Arm and Hammer Saline Nasal spray will help. I've found that if you just let it pour into your nostril and tilt your head back you can actually notice the thick mucous being removed from your larynx. This thick mucous if not removed can cause severe throat pain. Be sure and spit it out, or your stomach will pay for it later.

I live in Virginia and this ..... what ever it is hit me in the tail end of the college semester I just finished. I had very mucusy head cold that lasted about three weeks in March. Just after that ended I got hit with this stomach thing in April. Major cramps in the lower abdomen, chills, fever, little cramps all over, nausea, I felt like everything was trying to come out of my body and I didn't know if it wanted to come up or go down.

I thought I might vomit but I never did. I did have diarrhea The nausea did keep me from eating for a while and I slept so much, almost three days strait when it first hit me. I also had a headache like a hangover but was not drinking alcoholic beverages. My vision blurred, I was dizzy, gassy, bloating, and my back felt oddly cramped up also. My lymphnodes in my neck just under my jaw line have been a bit swollen over the last few months as well.

I speak as though this is all in the past tense as wistful thinking because after the week long original fight with this illness, symptoms have returned. Sometimes little ones and sometimes big and has NOT been fun! Getting this awful cramping sensation in your guts in the middle of studying for a final or walking your daughter down a quarter of a mile driveway is the pits!

Yesterday, we went to the mall and it hit me the worst it ever had. The pain in my stomach, the chills and nausea and cramping just took over! I am PRAYING that there is an answer for this and that it is not some lifelong disease like IBS, my daughter is 9 and I have two years of college to get through, I feel like this is taking over my life!

Most frustrating, we buy organic and eat healthy. No one else in my family has gotten this, except my Husband having a small 24 hr bug last month. The only thing different I can think of is I have Hypothyroidism, perhaps my immune system is already down so I cannot fight it off completely? The last two years have been very stressful for us, stress I know can also compromise an immune system.

Not trying to drawl out my life story to blab but in hopes to connect the dots of why we are all having these issues. Obviously, this is not just a CA State thing.

One of my friend's Husband also seems to have it. He works for Walmart at a distribution center and cannot seem to fight it off. Same symptoms.

Good luck everyone, hopefully we can get to the bottom of this soon! I am supposed to attend a wedding this weekend on my in-laws side of the family, can you just imagine what could happen? I am dreading it! Here is to our health!

I too was fighting an upper respiratory infection and was given antibiotic, steriod, then back to antibiotic and another antibiotic. It wiped that out finally, but now I too am having lower abdominal cramps with diarhea. If you've been on a long term regimen of this your stomach has lost it's good bacteria. Also if during that time, you are a big sugar addict like me and love sweets and pop, it could turn into a full blown yeast infection that can invade your whole system, i.e. canker sores, and as in the case of the person with the eye thing and funny smell in the nostrils. Probiotics may not be enough. An eliminating diet of sweets and carbs, plus a perscription from the doctor for Diflucan could do the trick. But if you want to go natural, take odorless garlic several times a day, as well as oil of oregano, or Pau d' Arco tea. They help with yeast overgrowth and with parasites. Also a proteolytic enzyme for digestion and/or charcoal tablets which help absorb the gas and bloating. They can be obtained at your local health food store.

Hi, just wanted to say I have been so worried about my daughter (grown), she has had this for 3 weeks also. sore throat, phlegm, congestion, tired, sleeps a lot after work-same symptoms. She cannot afford to go to the Dr. and I thought it was walking pneumonia-thank you all for sharing. It seems to be something that will run it's course. Hope everyone soon shakes this awful thing!

This must be some bug that's going around... after going into the city (Chicago) for a wedding, my friend and I both came back ill with what we thought was the flu. It hit me harder than any other bug. My nose completely swelled shut, literally. Fever of 102, chills, sore throat, and the COUGH and chest issues were the worst. I was coughing up stuff for weeks, my cough was so bad that I think I bruised my rib, it was so sore on the lower right rib I couldn't even touch it. Symptoms got better but the cough never really left. Then a few days ago I started a new exercise routine. Well I think this was too much for my body since today I have a bad sore throat again and just feel like c**p... like it's starting all over again. WHAT THE HECK IS THIS?!
Doctors are no help- "just take antibiotics."

I got sick almost two weeks ago -- started with a sore throat and has included conjunctivitis, coughing up mucus, extreme fatigue, dizziness, fever (but only in the beginning), occasional head ache, muscle aches, muscle weakness and slight stomach issues. Just when I think it's getting better, I feel worse, and utterly exhausted.

I tested negative for pneumonia, strep throat and lyme disease, and all of my blood work looks okay. My doctors just tell me that it's a virus, but I've never been sick for this long. I hate it.
