I have most of the same symptoms. I've now had the flu for six weeks. I started with a cough and fever for a week, then just a constant cough that kept me from sleeping. My doctor prescribed medication to help me sleep. I took it continuously at night for a week or so and then I'd stop thinking I'd be okay. Sometimes I would. Just like, Lefay, above, I will feel almost perfectly fine one day but if I push myself in the slightest degree (ie., going to the store or trying to clean the house), I will backslide for the next two days and feel that I'm getting it all over again.
Why is there no press on this? Everything you read on this flu says that it's mild, but it's not mild for me and Lefay. I have other friends who have it and they say the same thing. Someone in my county died of it and they weren't old or sick. I think this is very dangerous. I'm going to try antibiotics tomorrow. i can only hope it works.

I had almost exactly the same experience. I have swelling on the sides of my neck. I had an allergic reaction, then got sick and have had the neck pains and trouble swallowing even after the sickness seems to have gone. Tell me if you could what was it? How did you fix it? I am quite frustrated. I also have no fever. Thank you.

I read your post about the viral illness you suffered and I just wondered how you managed with everything and how long it took you to recover? Do you still have episodes? My life with fatigue and sickness has been up and down for seven years. I would just like to hear of someone who actually did recover.
Thanks and deepest compassion for what you went through.

I have been ill since Christmas. I spoke to a doctor over the phone who prescribed anti biotics. The symptons improved a little but began to return so i went to the surgery and my doctor more or less treated me like a child. I had no high temp,my chest sounded ok and my throat wasn't red. There was nothing wrong with me. I have lost my sense of taste and smell, I still cough in the night and have a very sore throat.

I realize this maybe an old posting but just in case anyone is still reading this forum.
I also have the same symptoms and have for over 5 yrs. I have more sick days than healthy. I have lost my job as a result cause there are days I cant even get out of bed . I have had every test imaginable, from Cat scans, MRI, GI series, Bone density test, etc. After 4 solid months of tests - Diagnosis is Fibromyalgia

There are many things this could be. I was sick like this on and off for years - finally went to an ND doc and found out it was over 20 food allergies. Also the toxins in our food, water and air and overuse of drugs cause our immune systems to be weaker than any time in history. Every kind of bug man made or otherwise is out there and when weak, we will catch them. Stop eating the foods from big Ag. Meat, eggs and dairy are all poison. GMO causes all kinds of problems and messes with our immune systems. Do a detox with all organic food. Drink only filtered water. Doing these things was the only way I got any better at all.

OMG! I have to thank you for this post because this is EXACTLY what I'm experiencing right now. I also had an ear infection and I have a sinus allergy or virus with a stuffy nose. I keep having chills on and off. They get better and kind of subside and then they come on again like today. It feels like internal chills. These get worse when I am bent forward over the computer on the bed and then I suddenly get nauseated and chilled and feel difficulty in taking a deep breath. I have been getting winded when I get too active or exert a little bit. I took antibiotics for the ear infection and right after I was done with the last pill, the nausea came in on me and has not fully gone away. It isn't as bad as it was, but it is still an ongoing problem My muscles feel weak or fatigued. I don't remember being sick like this since I had mono in my twenties. Like you, I start to feel better and then this comes in on me again hard. I have seen 5 or 6 different doctors and they all say the same thing, a virus and viral bronchitis causing a dry cough and also nasal allergies or something up there causing swelling and redness. I felt like this thing has traveled from one system to the next one. I went to the ER and 2 walk in clinics as well as seeing my family doctor 4 times and a new family doctor. I have had a stool test, a CAT scan, an ultra sound of the midsection, testing for lyme disease and mono, a urine test and many blood panels taken. All of them were normal, no bacterial evidence or parasites. I feel like I have a disease that no one is finding and I'm frightened and frustrated. Reading your post gave me hope as I may not be alone on this one.

I have been at my wit's end on this thing. The only good thing related to this virus is that I found this site with posts from people having similar symptoms and experience to me. Like most of you, I don't know what to do anymore. I feel like I'm on a roller coaster, one day up and the next day down. I went to my doctor a couple of days ago and he told me that I was getting better. I felt better for a day or two and then it hit me hard again to do with chills, nausea, feeling hot all over my body, big hunger, feeling it was hard to take a deep breath and feeling winded just bending over to put my pants on. There are more symptoms. These were just some symptoms that happen in one of my episodes with this horror story. I am still nausea as I write this and this has been for hours now. My body shakes internally yet I don't have a high fever, sometimes a low grade fever, but still under 100 degrees. So weird. So unlike other flu's, not following the same rules. It feels like I'm fighting a battle on several fronts and my body is weary. I didn't even feel this bad when I had mono or pneumonia. Some days it feels like I will never get well and this is not a good feeling to have. Where did this enemy come from? Was it the result of some biological warfare experiment being tested on all of us? All of the doctors I have seen have a very casual attitude about this thing.
I have felt so alone and scared until reading all of your posts. I have felt like I have a disease that no one is finding no matter how many medical tests I have been given. I have seen more doctors in the last few weeks than I have seen in 4 years and they all say the same thing. Are they all stupid? It's hard to have faith in them anymore. I can't work in our business and I have to leave it all on my husband and that stresses me even more. I hope and pray we all get well as fast as possible.
I am taking probiotics, grapefruit seed extract, ginger root, vitamin A & D, olive leaf extract, vitamin C, emergenC, saccharomyces boulardii and also an extract with wormwood to get rid of parasites should they be there even though my stool test didn't find anything. Also taking apple cider vinegar capsules for nausea which haven't really worked well with this nausea when they usually do work well.
When I sit on the bed with my computer and I bend over for a while, the chills come in on my and then the nausea and then the flushing and hard to breathe feeling. I have also had a problem with noises sounding louder or having a different aspect than they normally do. Some sounds make me jump or startle me. I don't know if that is from the initial middle ear infection which is supposedly gone or if it is just the way it is when someone is ill. Everything is a puzzle to me now. I have been on so many sites trying to self diagnose, but I have no answers that make sense.
I hope someone can shed more light on this and help. Thanks!!!

That sounds like what I have had for the past few weeks. It will start to go away then come back. I find that the best things to eat are plain rice and chicken because they are easy on your stomach and it doesn't take much to digest. Plain chicken is gross so if you want to add some flavor, you can cook it in apple juice. It gives the chicken a nice taste, and apple juice is also good for you and easy on your stomach when you are sick. Drinking ginger ale can also help calm your stomach, but if you have a hard time with it because it is carbonated, you can try either flat ginger ale or ginger tea. Soda crackers are fairly easy on your stomach, I had to live of of them for about a week, as long as you don't eat to many at once. Also, drinking Gatorade replaces the electrolytes that you lose, whether or not you have been throwing up.

There is definitely something going around, and I've been the unfortunate one to get it. Mine started out laying in bed 7 weeks ago and got a pain in my left of chest chest right around my pectoral muscle. Feels like I was having a heart attack. Woke up next day and went to Dr. gave me meds and said to rest. I then got symptoms of nausea, a lot of gas burping, stomach constantly rolling. Went back in to Dr. And said it was acid reflux. Gave me more meds floor acid reflux but they didn't help at all. Omeprazole was what I was taking. Tried waiting it out and nothing got better. Went to the ER about a week later with serious chest pains and feeling really wore down. EKG, blood tests, urine tests were all normal. Released me as if nothing was wrong. Stomach was rolling so bad, so I decided to call my Dr and have them refer me to a gastroentomologist. He scheduled a EGD, tube down your throat to see anything. Everything was normal and he found nothing. I was getting very frustrated at this point. I knew something isn't right, I started to get what I called serious "brain fog" where I was thinking thoughts of never getting over this or it's something seriously wrong. 6 weeks have gone by and now I'm having days that are ok, then right back to feeling ill. Currently on a 10 day antibiotic and it has made me feel a little better but not overall. Now, on a positive note. My grandma said she had this same thing for about 2 1/2 months, and then one day she woke up and it was all gone. Described it as being like a light switch just all of a sudden disappeared. I can feel your guys pain, just getting through it day by day. I'm hoping when this weather changes here in Midwest il get over this "funk" ...to ease my pain, I've taken vitamins such as echinacea, vit c, and a probiotic. Good luck to everyone suffering from this, I've never had something like this ever. I'm only 26 and very healthy and active. My wife and kid are probably thinking I'm losing it, but I know that's not the case, just glad they don't have it. Remember, God would never give you something you can't handle, just pray he helps you through this. Good luck guys and God bless

I was happy to read your post as I am in deep despair over this illness which no one can name. It feels like you'll never get well. Your symptoms match mine. I am now on a 10 day antibiotic regime of Cipro and hoping I don't get side effects from that. Supposedly, there is now a bladder infection, maybe. For the first time after many many many blood results, my white count is slightly elevated which shows an infection. All other times, it has come back normal as well as my many other tests including 2 chest x-rays, a cat scan of the brain, an ultra sound of my midsection, urine tests, stool tests. I have constant chills and nausea which is the most disturbing part because I can't function with that. If I bend over, I get the nausea again and the shakes and some spasms.
I don't know what this is and everyone is labeling it a virus. It is the virus from hell. I have never been this sick in my life. This tops my mono and pneumonia. And as you said, one day you feel like you might get better and the next day you're back in hell again. I don't get it. It is as if this virus can think on its own and when you have positive ideas or thoughts that you might get well, it hits you again. I call it a nano virus. Could be man made. I feel like I'm also having some brain fog. I have awful dreams at night and feel like my head is in a fog. I had an ear infection which was in the beginning. It was also in my nasal passages and throat. Then I got a dry cough and then it went down to my abdomen and lower abdomen.
I pray hard every day and I hope we can all get well. I would not wish this illness on anyone and I mean anyone, not even my worst enemy. It's horrible! I cry every day many times. My poor husband is helpless too and does his best to comfort me. I can only hope that it will finally go away as in the case of your grandmother.
Thanks for writing. It helps to know we're not all alone.

Also, I think that this virus or whatever it is, has caught onto my nerves also. I have arm tingling and pinky finger tingling. Really uncomfortable, and I do my best to try and forget about it. Mine starts above left pectoral muscle and radiates under arm pit down to forearm and into my pinky finger. No appetite either from this, I've prob lost 25 lbs during this 7 week span. Some days I can eat, even though I don't feel like it, I still do for energy. Starting to think maybe a pinch nerve, but who knows, everything else I has done seems to be "normal"..another weird thing I might add, i have exercised and played basketball and while doing the activity I felt fine, just when I got done, I crashed. Really bad for about 10 min, then I had to bare it out. This whole thing has made me appreciate being happy and healthy. Once this is gone, and I know it will be soon, this will all just be a bump in the road. Anyone else have results to get through this, please share. Take care once again!

Well, I am so glad that I found this thread. I have started to feel nuts, as I am now going into week 4 with this thing. Comes and goes, lots of sweating and chills, no real temp but feel flushed, which is separate from the sweats. I had thought I was getting better, but the past 3 days have been the worst yet. All my joints hurt, I get chronic headaches, occasionally feel like I can't breathe so I have to use my inhaler, but no real cough. I am finally going to the doc tomorrow. I have resisted, because I knew the flu was going around, and I figured I just had a mild version of it since I had a flu shot. Anyway, I have all the symptoms people are listing. I was wondering if it wasn't malaria, as I live in an area where malaria is endemic. I know it isn't Dengue fever, because I have a friend that just got over it, and it feels sort of like this, although much worse - she described it as having a whole body migraine for 6 weeks. I didn't want to go to the doc to spend $100 to have her tell me there is nothing that can be done. I do feel a bit better reading all of the posts here. So I will update if she tests me for malaria, and in the meantime, I will just try to go with the flow. I have been extraordinarily crabby the past week, as I just can't seem to pull anything together, as I feel like c**p.
Thanks for all the posts, it does make me feel better to know others are going through the same thing.

The chills and the sweats are the worst and they are the worst at night while sleeping. They are convulsive and pull my body up and jerk it around. I am in despair and feel there is no hope for me at this point. This has been going on for nearly 2 months and just doesn't want to leave. The only indication that it is still here are the shaking chills without a fever. That is the puzzle. My body is making an internal fever and every part of my insides are shaking. I am now on 2 different antibiotics and thought I was getting better yesterday, but I had a horrible night of chills and sweats and also nausea. The nausea could also be from the antibiotics. Who knows anymore? My last trip to the ER which was a few days ago, I made the doctor give me a CT scan of my midsection to my pelvis. They found a possible diverticulitis infection and a bladder infection potential. He gave me antibiotics to handle that and also to handle some parasites. I think these infections are just complications of what this horrible disease is and making it harder for the body to fight it off.
All of my blood tests and scans have been basically normal except for the one I just mentioned and that was not so bad. I was happy they found something so I could be on antibiotics which is not my favorite thing to do either. I was feeling better during the day yesterday on day 3, but then the chills and sweats came in hard on me last night. And no fever registers which is crazy so it is even suppressing the body's way of fighting this off.
I wanted them to test me for malaria, but they just scoffed at me. I have been bitten by a lot of mosquitoes in the last several years. They love me, but the doctors don't think malaria is a problem here. I have seen so many doctors and been to the ER three times and to walk in clinics and had so many different blood panels and other tests that I don't know what to do anymore. One doctor thought it was hanging in there because of a dead tooth which I am going to check out today if I can sit in the dentist chair long enough without shaking or being nauseated.
Good luck with your doctor visit. Let me know what they say please. I'm also seeing a doctor/naturopath to see if there's anything he suggests or can do. For some reason my body just can't fight this off and is using the chills and sweats to do it.
