You're right it does sound like ebv but my family has the sinus congestion and mucus with a lot of gas...that isn't usually ebv. The lady in earlier posts who said h-pylori was very close. However, What we found is that it is bacterial in nature and antibiotic resistant. Some do well with antibiotics and some do not. It seems to respond better with oregano oil, turmeric, nano silver, garlic, vitamin c, lots of rest, yoga, selenium as in coconut water, ginger root, hydrangea root tea, cayenne pepper, and some iodine. We use a heating pad around our neck at night. Nothing else is working for us. Our friends were overseas and caught it then we caught it from them. They healed it with yoga alone. This bacteria caused my period to stop, I also had a mole I never had appear and grow quickly. This lowered our immune systems horribly. Our tongues are coated so food tastes strange. We sleep so much and the fevers are the worst. The good news is that doctors are more aware of it now and are starting to get stool tests done regularly even if patients don't have stomach pains. That's been the trickiest thing because of the lack if atomach pain as a symptom, doctors aren't ordering labs for stool specimens. It took weeks before our stomachs started aching a bit. But h-pylori in too large of numbers can cause problems. Of note: our bacterial infections are no longer only being found in the typical organ that they usually attack. We found klebsiella in my kidneys when it's usually from pneumonia in the lungs or respiratory. Things are changing and doctors need to think outside the box. Feel better everyone.

I myself have the same thing. I’ve been to my Dr. 3 times. On my third antibiotic. After antibiotics are finished in a couple of days I start feeling sick again. Have a persistent cough and a fever on and off. My dr also said there is a virus going around that you just can’t shake. This has been 4 weeks for me. Dr said if still sick after this antibiotic he wants me to come back. He will probably do blood work this time.

It's so long ago I wrote on here I cannot find the post. I had this flu earlier in the year and thought I was over it after about 2/3 months. For the last month or so I thought I had put on weight but I suddenly realised it's bloating with the same uncomfortable feelings in the gut that I got with the original virus. It is still in my body months later and has triggered off again making me very uncomfortable. Another strange symptom I have is my eyes are really blurry when I get tired.
My son still has a real mucus problem from the original virus and has been to the doctor several times with it. Nothing helps so they are now sending him to an Ear, nose and throat specialist.
It's true that being very vigilant with diet helps and taking probiotics but it seems like you can never drift from the perfect diet again which is nearly impossible...
How is every one else going?

If you are in San Diego you are aware that they are battling hepatitis A not sure if symptoms correlate but may be worth checking but nothing they can do but let it run its course.

Thank you! We are all very tired. I'd like to hear some success stories Of conquering this thing. Has anyone rid themselves of it permanently? A friend of ours has it much worse and is bed ridden and goes to and from hospitals. Some don't have it more than some swelling and some congestion. We fall in the middle. It just doesn't want to go.

Hi, had a similar virus for 3 weeks, bloating/gas/dizzy/nausea/tiredness/no fever/mucus/swollen glands in my neck being the current main symptom & dry heaving/nearly vomiting/sickness in stomach.
Been to the docs, he says he’s confident it’s a virus and just to rest and run it’s course.
I’m debating whether to try antibiotics as some of you mention it’s helped.. what’s your thoughts?

I’m going through the exact same thing! Never had this before. I’ve been sick for 2 months and I’ll think I’m getting better and it comes right back!

I work in an Urgent Care in Albuquerque, half our patients (50 a day) come in with the NoName Viral Infection that has replaced the flu for the last 3 years... nagging dry cough, congestion, sinusitis, achey, fatigued, and sometimes other symptoms that include or not: nausea, diarrhea, sinus headache, secondary ear infections.... usually no fever so people are not having a good immune response to this sneaky virus... the first 3 days are the worst, followed by 4 weeks of feeling fairly good in the morning, everybody goes to work, then, by the end of the day they're ready to drop. Our treatments are limited, nothing works well against viruses...for respiratory congestion complicated by asthma or smoking we can give nebulizer treatments and/or prednisone... Docs don't like to prescribe Codeine for the cough so the over the counter cough medicines or cough drops are slightly effective to suppress the cough. Secondary infections can be avoided by keeping the sinuses draining with Flonase which takes a few days to start working....You can't fool mother nature... everybody got the flu shot so this is the replacement illness... on the bright side... after finally getting over this.... your immune system should be geared up, on guard, and fully functional and protect you from most other germs for 2 or 3 years... always think positive.

It is quite hard to diagnose for sure with so little data, but from what several ppl here wrote I would still agree with doctors that we are talking about the virus infection. Why are they DIFFERENT in some details from these we have heard about in our childhood? Well viruses are known to adapt much better to the environment than we. To each our next step in creating breeds for them to prevent them from making us sick, they find ways around or straight through it. What I am saying is that today’s strains of viruses CAN last much longer than these known as 2 wks flu type infections. Yes, for that classical form plenty of fluids, resting etc was quite enough. Doctors usually were also giving an antibiotic to stop possible secondary bacterial infection that was known to often attack heart, tonsils, eyes, and whatever else. But times have changed, she humans have mixed up viruses form the whole planet by travelling fast and in huge numbers. Now viruses got upper hand… they found strains that break through our defences, some of them I find last much longer, and may drain the body to the point when it has no more strength to defend itself.

What to do?

The virus cannot be “killed” as it is a super resilient entity and as small as it gets. The only known enemy of the virus that can “GET” them are our leucocytes. They need a time to IDENTIFY, who is the enemy, and to start production of the army of assassins that literally eats these viruses. In order to hall you body to gat this line of defines ready and to make it tougher for viruses to multiply in large numbers one needs to sleep a lot, and drink a lot (viruses are flushed away in huge numbers so drinking a gallon a day is a good idea).
I turned to the old times when there were no super cooper magic pills, but only ways that were practiced throughout millennia of our history. What they were?

1. Change your lifestyle as much as possible towards giving your body more chances to win, exclude stresses from your day and night
2. Sleep a lot, minimum 8 hrs, better 10 hrs daily or more. Anytime when you feel sleepy… do it.
3. Drink clear fluids a lot
4. Flush and gargle your throat many times a day with kitchen salt and/or mouthwash (alternate).
5. If possible take Aspirin (some people cannot) twice a day, morning and evening. It reduces inflammation and makes for better sleep - IMPORTANT. I use also a nasal spray for the first several days to improve my sleep. Quality of sleep is important as this is the time the antibodies are fighting viruses most.
6 Turn to HERBS.
For ages there were known plants that were used for this or that. Why do you think they were used? Because they WORK! Why aren’t they prescribed left and right today? Because corporations make no money if you can pic it up on your own in a ditch or but plenty for a buck… BTW. They aren’t [prescribed only here… in most of the countries they still are…

What plants I use and whY:

7. GARLIC - eat plenty of garlic, even 1 whole per day.
WHY - Plants from this family are known to help “seal” tissue so much that it makes it more difficult even for the viruses to freely pass through, so it is limiting their mobility thus helping with getting rid of them by immune system.
A NOTE - some people have stomach issues and cannot eat garlic, or onion
8. Onion - same story, but they should be eaten RAW, when cooked it looses its “bite” which does the trick.
9. Ginger - has known anti viral, and anti bacterial properties. Cut 1-2 thin slices per glass of boil ing water, and gov it some time to sit, then drink that “tea” several times a day. It will boost your immune system.
10. Ventilate room often. Viruses are easily transported with the wind. The old way of dealing with them even a century ago was ventilating room each day, e.g. when you go to the washroom
11. SUNLIGHT - viruses of flu die instantly when exposed to sunlight. If the weather cooperates I like to turn my throat to the sunlight and allow its rays to kill the bastards for couple of minutes as often as possible.
12. Do not break the routine. Eat variety of food and OBSERVE.

There are some additional variations to this old way of getting better FAST, like induce sweating as early as possible, usually when you feel your body started sweating by itself - drink very warm fluids and cover yourself during the sleep. When you sweat, change clothing into dry and keep sweating. Your body is getting rid of the fever and inflammation.

Using cough syrups helps, inhalations help, but they don’t HEAL… they cannot. The “healing” does only your body by itself so you have to HELP IT.

How much you can speed up healing this way? At least 2 weeks I’d say. From a month lasting influenza/flu of this kind I can get over it within 2 weeks. The old saying went: the treated influenza lasts 2 weeks and untreated 14 days…

Anyway if your symptoms last way longer then MOST probably there ARE additional factors to it. You may have additional bacterial infection on the way. The virus when flushed from one part of the body suddenly manifests itself in another. In my case it was one eye after another, but with patience I got all these issues resolved within 2 weeks. And one thing more - DO NOT ALLOW ANYBODY NEAR YOU!!! if they did not have the same as you before. They will start spreading virus further. It should NOT re-infect you as your body WILL produce eventually enough of antibodies to keep the virus in check, but it might eventually change a bit and get you this way, so better not.

As a society we have this issue that we do NOT use prevention enough. At work people spreading viruses around are a regular situation. Public transportation is another. We need to change this because the weakest of us WILL pay the price. This is simply the game of the numbers and viruses have here much better chances than we do.

And once we get better after the virus is gone and kept under lid (it is NEVER gone!!!) we need to gradually build back our full resistance and restore functionality.
