I have had this same thing. Because it presents with sore throat, fever, chills, body aches all.of which come and go it has to be either viral or bacterial. I atually do. Eleven that this illness has been labe led IBS inaccurately however I'm sure that following some of the IBS remedies could help with the symptoms until the whole nasty thing passes.
The real pain of it is just trying to get stuff doe and go to work!

I've had what the doctor called the Parainfluenza virus for 8 weeks. :-( My doctor put me on Amoxicillin because of my age and because I am immunocompromised. I think I picked it up at the dentist's office. Two days after I became sick, my hubby got it. It started with a terrible pain behind my eye which was odd, and I used eyewash. Then the pain went into all my sinuses, my throat...leading me to believe I had strep throat . He did a culture and came back saying it was a virus and probably parainfluenza. How LONG does this horrible thing take to go away?? We needed to plant our garden a week ago, but were both so weak, we couldn't do it. Plus we farm and have sheep to shear among other things. I had a temperature of 104 which went back to normal after antibiotics, but the cough is just TERRIBLE. I am 70 and my hubby is 79, and we can never retire from our work. We HAD our flu shots and live over 50 miles from the nearest town. So just visiting the doctor was a long trip for us. I can and freeze all our own food and have all my life, and my hubby puts up the venison and rabbit. This is just as bad or worse than having the flu!! How long will it last???

I have the EXACT issue!!!! I'm going on my 3rd week now. Started off as a horrible issue with my throats couldn't swallow at all, diff from a regular sore throat. Then it got better and the fever etc went away for like a day then it keeps coming back from time to time with like a day normal and back to sick. Had the tummy issues just like you and the diarrhoea is gone but still have weird feelings in that sense. Day before I was great, able to workout, yesterday fever is back, felt really sick and in bed all day.

Hi. I'm in New Zealand but I've lost where I was on this thread...the virus makes me very muddled like I have early onset dementia. My head feels like it has pressure in the middle of my forehead and I have constant sore eyes now and eyestrain. The stomach symptoms have subsided thank goodness and I no longer look like I'm about to deliver a baby, and can go out in public again because the constant gas has subsided, but I have to be very careful what I eat or drink especially chocolate and coffee. It's making me more aware of my diet and I have to be just about perfect to survive at the moment and produce any energy. If I extend myself on one day (say go to the dentist) it puts me back for days and I need lots of rest. I just about live in my bed or on the couch. I feel sorry for people that need to work or have a young family with this awful thing. I must be on week 10 or 12....
My son has it but he has completely different symptoms but like others on here he is chesty, coughing up phlegm and sometimes struggles to breathe. Like me he has sore eyes and swollen eyelids. If the Doctors know about this and it's viral they have ripped him off giving him antibiotics twice and charged him a fortune. They have done nothing.
I've started on Colloidal silver. This was what they took before antibiotics and my Health Professional (at the health store) said it covers a wider range of bacteria and viruses than antibiotics
I'll report back if it helps...Off for another nap now so I can get through the evening. Good luck to everyone struggling out there. Lets hope we find some cure between us!
ps I had a similar virus 6 years ago and it took a year to get over it. I used Clinicians Go Allergy (which they have discontinued) and had a herbalist make up a special mixture for me in the end then took a long holiday in Europe and I finally came right (maybe it was just time) but I remembered feeling stronger after the herbal medicine

Did you come right eventually as I have had very similar stomach problems to you, never had anything like this before in my life. Just interested if it got better eventually and if you had other symptoms? I live in New Zealand and I think it's taken a while to travel here

Hi Anyone who has had this recently please keep posting as it helps to know we are not alone, especially if you find anything that helps the symptoms. Thanks

For the last 5 or 6 years I have been saying how we get this thing "head and stomach", your sinuses hurt and your stomach or intestines hurt and you feel lousy and it usually resolves itself by running to the toilet which is like Irritable bowel syndrome but it isn't, I just had another bout of it today, I usually get a headache over the left eye and the left nostril is swollen, I just feel lousy, can't put a finger on why but then I ran twice to the toilet and I am starting to feel better. The wife had an episode 2 in the morning a few nights ago, it poured out of her but she said she didn't feel bad, but my parents had it again just the other day also. It's almost like a virus that once you are infected with it you have flare ups forever, very discouraging but that seems to be the way of it.....

Hi there,
Last year I caught this illness in February and didn't get free of it until mid june ...every time I thought I was better it would come back again....neck glands up slight sore throats with fatigue ....if I got tired or cold it would reappear ..
I tried everything to get rid of it and the only thing that really helped was rest and vitamin c ...this winter I caught it again and it went on for a couple if months but I still cannot get rid of the last five percent....i
I don't think there is much you can do except Look after yourself and eventually it goes...I have a five year old who picks up every bug at school and I catch them from him,,..
Never in my life have I had bugs like this ...flu used to two to three weeks...
These virus illnesses are a modern nightmare ....

Hi. Starting to come right after about 3 months. I gradually increased my exercise. Before it struck I walked for 30 minutes most days. At first I was exhausted but persisted starting with 10 minutes a day then I'd need a long rest. It seems to be leaving my system now and I have normal energy again. I still watch that I don't get too tired. I don't want it coming back. I also upped my vitamin intake. Healthy protein shakes, multi vitamin, vitamin C and even tried colloidal silver (bit controversial but they used to use readily years ago)
My son is still struggling along with lots of phlegm. He's at week 6.
Viruses are definitely getting worse. Like some people have said you used to get flu for a week or a short cold. Maybe it is because people travel and move around the globe so much today...it did take longer to get to NZ!

Could be glandular fever.

He's been checked for glandular fever and the Doctor says it's viral even thought he had 2 lots of antibiotics. A lot of people around us have now got the same thing. I think the modern viruses are getting worse. They just go on and on.....
