This is something that I have been playing around with for a while now. I'm actually able to create this feeling almost at will. I've been getting better and better at it for the passed year or so.
The feeling I get: - tingling in the back of the head
- waves of goosebumps
- euphoric feeling that varies in intensity, some greater than orgasms
Other less obvious feelings: - increased pain tolerance
- loss of worries
I decided to search this out when I had a feeling that was so immense I felt like I was on drugs. In this particular incident, the euphoria was so intense that it was the best feeling I've ever had in my life. I mainly learned to create this sensation as a result of coping with disappointment.
To trigger this feeling, I put myself into a strange focused emotional state. It is difficult to describe though. It would be like trying to explain to someone how to wiggle their ears. It's as though you just have to find the muscle (metaphorically - or maybe not?). A lot of you have been describing some kind of focused and emotional state. This seems to make sense. Try imagining a situation that would trigger this sensation and try to relive the emotional feeling of it. This might help you gain control of it. Certain distractions might make it more difficult for you to have the sensation, like people around. I originally had trouble creating the sensation with others around.
As far as side effects go, I normally feel a slight headache and itchyness on the top and back of the skull. This is only after an intense sensation or if im having the sensation a lot. The only thing I can think of is that somehow we've tapped into the body's release of dopamine or seratonin.
Good luck

Sorry for the double. It came up as a result of trying to register while writing the post. I can't seem to delete it.

I too have been experiencing the same tingling sensation in the back of my head. I remember the first time it happened was when I was around five. But until recently they've become more prevalent happening as much as 6 to 7 times a day. I've only recently been able to somewhat control it, in that if I focus enough I can make it last for as long as a few minutes.
I've searched high and low for answers to this mystery but I can't find a darn thing about it.
Have you ever used any psychadelic drugs such as LSD or Psilocybin?

I smoke marijuana regularly and I've done psychadelic mushrooms once. No LSD yet though.

I too have had the same tingling sensations for about 10 years now (I'm 37 now) It's like someone is slowly barely touching your skin and stroking your whole body. It's a tingling on the scalp, in my arms, my spine, my legs...it's a total euphoria sensation which is better than any drug I've ever taken. I once stood at the bank talking to a teller who gave off the most powerful pure energy I've ever felt (that's what I call it..."pure energy") It was so strong my knees almost buckled and I thought I was going to have a total brain orgasm right there in the bank. I've gotten this sensation from women, men, children..and animals sometimes as well. I sometimes think it's my physic way of judging whether or not someone is a good person or not. If I feel something....I trust them, and they are good. I've been right everytime so far. I'm glad I'm not the only one who has had this sensation.....It's not sexual...it's just pure euphoria.

I have the exact thing happen to me. I can't really explain it any better than any of you have. It's simply complete euphoria. And generally it happens to me when someone is asking me for help or helping others in unexpected way.
I had no idea that not everyone could feel this.
Is there any kind of medical explanation that anyone knows of?

to the person who talked about people chewing gum thats what set it off last period in school for me today and got me here lol
i've gotten the same tingly feeling as long as I can remember
It happened a lot more often when I was in elementary school but still happens occasionally now (I'm 17)
it happens when certain people talk and just something in their voice and in the way they speak makes me concentrate on nothing but them
a lot of the time someone with a monotone voice will set it off and most of the other triggers people have said
different thing - do any of your hands feels weird and weak?
not sure how to explain it or if this is related at all but sometimes when people speak my right hand (it's always my right and i'm a righty) gets not really limp just weak sort of. I'm not able to write and if i hold a pencil and try my hand just starts shaking. Both have happened to me as long as I can remember and it's a b***h and a half when it happens in the middle of an essay haha. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced both because the same thing seems to set them both off
they've never happened at the same time but normally the cause for both is something in someone's voice

Wow! Fellow weirdos I have found you lol! :-D
A very easy way to trigger this sensation is to have someone draw shapes on your back (you can easily disguise this as a game of 'guess what letter I'm drawing'!).
Otherwise I am fully in agreement with the majority held opinion that it is triggered when someone is focusing on a task 100% for you. An example of this is when someone washes my car whilst I'm sat inside; the sound/sensations involved in this process really bring on a big 'hit' of AIHO for me!
So moving on what do people think of us getting a grounding around this so-far obscure experience? Like has been mentioned I have Gooooooooooogled many keywords to no avail and can only conclude it is a great unknown.
I'll make a start with the following 'what we know' and hey we could even have our own Wikipedia entry... :-P
- Non-sexual (though can be triggered by sexual activity) feeling of immense pleasure
- Commonly a satisfying tingling sensation that starts in the head, moving to the neck, down the shoulders and potentially encompassing the whole body with varying intensities depending on the 'hit'
- Triggered by both contact and very interestingly non-contact stimuli
- The most common trigger appears to be when the experiencer is being given unabated attention by another individual(s) on a task pertinent to them. Usually the higher in importance or relevance the more intense the sensation.
- Also reported as being triggered by observing others intently focused on a task, activity etc. such as writing on paper, chewing gum etc. that isn't necessarily pertinent to the experiencer. This is such that the sensation would be anonymously experienced.
And so on. Anyone care to add anything else into our research? We could end up being classed as the 'founders' and become famous!!

Mephisto

I get the exact same sensation too. It is also triggered by similar things to what you guys have explained. I have described it to a few people and they get intrigued but I have never met another person that gets it.
I wish I could control it though. I would crank it up all day long. I love the feeling. Sometimes I listen to someone's boring conversation purely because they give me the sensation.
I reckon if we all meet up and talk about it together we would stimulate each others head sensations. I'm in Melbourne, Australia.

Okay, I too have had the same feeling. I get it when I am asking someone for help, or I am watching someone draw a well drawn picture. It seems to often be when people are concentrating. It doesn't make any sense to me. I don't like it, because the fact that I'm close to people when it happens makes me feel messed up in the head, but I love the feeling. I've been searching for a long time now, and I have had no luck finding an answer. It's been happening for as long as I can remember, and just recently has it started making me worry. I just don't feel right. I've never used any drugs. I would love to find an explanation. Any ideas yet?

Well it feels better that I am not the only one! It's amazing that we have all come together and found something that has obviously not been documented before. Yeah, I forgot about the shapes on the back. I have the same thing. I'm just having trouble learning not to act on it. I know I have asked people to draw me pictures or something, so i can get the feeling. I think we should all come up with a name for it, so we can document it for the good of others. I'm going to talk to my shrink on saturday about it, I'll let you guys know if i find anything out. :-D

I feel like I know you guys! :-)
I won't completely re-cover everything, but...
*My sensation does not go pass the base of my neck
*My sensation tingles all over the top of my head and washes down the back of it.
*My sensation starts to become just a warm feeling after about 5 or 10 minutes of solid wonderful tingling.
It is usually triggered by:
*Someone talking in a low or hushed tone.
*People carrying on a conversation that I'm not involved in (or listening to someone talk on the phone)
*Watching someone do something like knit, draw, or paint... something that they concentrate on.
That's basically it... I haven't had it in awhile though. :-(

My sensation can also be triggered by someone very lightly scratching the base of my neck, or the top of my head.
