I HAVE BEEN ON SEROQUEL FOR ALMOST ONE YEAR.
I KNEW THAT THIS DRUG HAD DANGEROUS SIDE EFFECTS BUT DID NOT KNOW WHAT IT WAS GOING TO DO TO ME.
IN 6/2008 MY DOCTOR FOUND A CATARACT IN MY LEFT EYE, AND MY VISION HAD CHANGED DRASTICALLY. WAS VERY BLURRY AND MY EYES BECAME DRY.
I SAW EYE DOCTOR IN 9/2008, CONFIRMED I HAD CATARACT IN LEFT EYE, AND DRY EYE SYNDROME. REFERRED ME TO EYE SURGEON.
SAW EYE SURGEON ON 10/8/2008, VISION HAD AGAIN CHANGED DRASTICALLY FOR THE WORSE, AND NOW IN LESS THAN 3-4 WEEKS I HAVE DEVELOPED CATARACT IN RIGHT EYE.
WENT ON INTERNET TO CHECK OUT SIDE EFFECTS OF THIS DRUG. FOUND UNDER LESS SEVERE, VISION CHANGES. FOUND UNDER RARE BUT SEVERE, CATARACTS.
NOW I HAVE TO HAVE EYE SURGERY, AND AM TAKING MYSELF OFF THIS DRUG.
I TOOK THIS DRUG TO HELP WITH SLEEP, BUT IT HAS BEEN A ROLLER COASTER RIDE.
ANYONE ELSE EXPERIENCE THIS SIDE EFFECT?
I AM VERY ANGRY THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME!

I was in real good shape, a distance runner.
I have not altered the time I spend exercise
and I eat the same, but in 6 months I put on over 40 lbs.
I'm on 400 mg for insomnia and depression.

I have what is termed Bi-Polar II Disorder...which is not as severe as Bipolar I Disorder...However I was prescribed Seroquel for everyday use and found that my sugar cravings went up...and I simply could not function on this med during the daytime because it caused extreme mental fog. So, I decided Seroquel was not right for me no matter what the Doctor wants to think! My quality of life was not only affected when I first took the drug but the long term effects on your liver and other organs and the increased risk of becoming diabetic was NOT WORTH IT! So, I quickly learned that researching everything and communicating with your Doctor is very important...if you don't feel comfortable with a medication then ask for an alternative med...trust me they are out there you just have to keep researching and trying knew things. This is a link to one helpful site with info on Bi-Polar Disorder...if you understand your affliction you can control it better. :-D

! Don't be afraid to ask questions to your Doctor...and never be afraid to explain to your Doctor that you want alternatives to harmful medications! There will most likely always be some side effects on any med you choose but, you are the one with the choice to try new meds and what side effects you are willing to accept!
I do have a friend who for a short period took Buspar for her Bi-Polar II diagnosis..she liked it. I know it won't work for everybody facing this but it worked for her. ! Again research the medication and know the side effects!

What are the side effects of seroquel? I'm also taking Abilify.
What are the signs of a seroquel overdose?
I have been taking Seroquel and my sexual appetite is very good. Will it go down if I'm using Seroquel in the long run?
I just got on seroquel and I read it causes diabetes and heart problems and it is making me eat more. Is there another medication that is safer, that anyone is taking, that doesn't have these terrible side effects?
