Hello, I am very worried for my father. He is 67 years old and he never experienced any serious problems with his intestines. But now, he has abdominal pain and constipation and diarrhea are changing almost daily. A doctor said that a fecal occult blood test has to be done. What will that discover?

I assume that there was no blood in the stool. That is why a fecal occult blood test is done. To determine if there is some microscopic bleeding. As for the causes of that bleeding, they are numerous and might be from the most benign thing, such as hemorrhoids, or it might be something really dangerous, some sort of a tumor. But, let’s wait for the results first.
