I don't know whether there are any conditions that can only be treated with third-generation cephalosporins, but what I do know is that third-generation cephalosporins are very much overused in most hospitals and that it is this category of drugs that is responsible for the so called "hospital super bugs" that are resistant to treatment. My input is that they need to be toned down!
