I went to a gyno because of this extra discharge I had and a very funny odor, and she examined me prescribed me a drug called Flagyl and told me that both my boyfriend and I need to take it. I didn’t understand anything; she didn’t even explain what it was all about and what kind of condition I have. Is there anybody who can tell me more about this drug? Thank you!

Hello there! Flagyl is used to treat giardia infections of the small intestines, amebic liver abscess and dysentery, trichomonas vaginal infections, and carriers of trichomonas. By describing your symptoms I assume you have a Trichomonas vaginalis. It is a sexually transmitted disease, an inflammation of the vaginal canal caused by a protozoan. It is also what I was prescribed Flagyl for. It is true that both you and your partner need to take it, so that the infection wouldn’t come back.
