Hi! I’m in second months of pregnancy. I feel great and I would like to do some exercises. I heard that it’s very good for and for my baby also. Probably I should inform well how I can exercise. So, what is the safest way to exercise during pregnancy? Thanks!

First I need to say that before starting on any exercise program, you should consult with your doctor and make sure that the exercise programs are right for you. It’s important to keep your heart rate under 140 beats per minute. Avoid overheating and lying on your back for extended periods of time.

Its better you first ask your Doctor about what exercises you can do and for how long. Walking seems to be safe. And yoga is also good but in any case ask your Doctor first.

I also wanted to exercise in my pregnancy but my doc wouldn't allow it. She didn't say reason why, she just said you CAN'T although everything was PERFECT with my pregnancy and although every source and every literature said exercising in pregnancy was OK and RECOMMENDED.

My friend, who is PILATES instructor, held her classes as far as the 7th or even 8th month of pregnancy and everything turned out to be OK.

Anyway, my suggestion too would be to talk about it with your doc.

I read in a study that exercising and dieting in pregnancy increased chances of miscarriage.

Actually, it was put like this: Women who exercised or dieted during their pregnancies had a bigger incidence of miscarriages that women who did not.

Please do workout.
try something that will be challenging, but still be managable well into the preganacy.
One of the best options is swimming. You can take it at your own pace. just dont do flip turns at the end of each lenght. the water generally helps keep your temperature down. DONT use the hot tub after (its tempting, i know) and (if you are concerned about weight gain) eat foods that satisfy hunger pangs (grapes, apples, bananas) but are still healthy. Or better yet exercise just before a meal and have a really healthy and balanced meal. You definitely enjoy it more !

Doesn't swimming in pregnancy make you more susceptible to bladder infections? I know antibiotics can be taken in pregnancy but why not avoid them if possible. I do agree that swimming would be a beneficial exercise but it is these infections that would worry me (if I were a girl :) )
