My headaches and lightheadedness started after I had a fluid cyst surgically removed from my spine. I never had headaches or lightheadedness prior to the surgery. My vision also changed after the surgery. I know that the surgery caused my problem. After going through a barrage of tests, a doctor from Stanford diagnosed me with New Daily Persistent Headache. It's a syndrome that can resolve itself, or drag on for years. Very frustrating and debilitating. I also suffer from anxiety but dealing with this issue has exacerbated my issue.

I also have been dealing with the lightheadedness for years. It was not horrible at first. But after a shoulder surgery 5 months ago my symptoms increased 10 fold. lightheaded, confusion, tingling in face and neck, feeling overwhelmed. Overwelming desire to lay down. Laying down made all symptoms go away.   I have had neck injuries in the past, but never put the two things together.  A posting from last year mentioned neck tightness, and scalene muscles pinching the carotid artery. Went to Physical Therapy cux some disc bulges were found after an MRI was done.  My symptoms lessoned. Complication from my shoulder surgery made it difficult to maintain the exercises. I've noticed that the less neck exercises I do the more my light headed symptoms return. Weird note: I noticed when I was sitting up feeling light headed and foggy, lifting my left leg out in front of me, cleared my head. Lifting my right leg made it worse. This makes me think a pinched "something" is involved.  I'm going to start my neck PT again and look for a massage therapist.  If this helps I'll write again

I have been light headed for about 8 months. Very annoying. The thing I hate Most about it is that it makes me self centered and thinking about my own problems instead of thinking about others. It's not painful and I have never passed out but it sure does interfere with my daily life. Surprised my body doesn't get back in synch. So that leaves me about how to cope with a chronic condition. I do keep busy and productive. If I'm out in public or at work its always there but I can't complain and I seem to be able to persevere. Being outside helps. Doing physical activity helps. Maybe my purpose in having this is to help others with this peculiar issue.

That is exactly what happened to me!! It started on Dec 2012 when I bent down to reach for a water bottle and when I got back up everything was spinning.. I have been feeling lightheaded ever since. It also happens that some days are better than others, but the feeling is always there. Almost as if I was on a couple of glasses of wine all the time.. My doctor didnt really bother to do any brain imaging testing, he prescribed meclizine 25mg and just said to watch youtube videos for labyrinthitis, but Im getting really scared that it does not go away and that medication doesnt work at all. I also get really bad migraines.. well I've had those all my life.. Im going to see a Neurologist this month...

Hello. Not sure if you will get this since its been over a year since you posted but I was diagnosed with neurocardiogenic syncope in dec of 2013. My main complaint for almost two years was constant state of light headedness. Just wondering if you are feeling better and if you have found a medication that works. Thanks.

That's exactly what happened to me, were you able to see your doctor? are you feeling better?
My doctor sent me to cognitive threpist, but it didn't help, It's been 4 weeks that I', light headed and sometimes think that my eyes are blury. I event went to an eye doctor, and my eyes were almost fine, my thyroid functions well, and my blood pressure is normal ( a bit low but still in normal range. I even did bunch of different blood test but they're all turned out normal.
Sometimes I feel that I have fever, but I don't. It's like my head is shaking and I feel the waves of heartbeat over my head. So I don't know what's wrong.

I know it's been over a year since you posted this but I have the same problem. It also feels like the right side of my neck and head are numb. I feel dizzy all the time and sometimes get the sensation that I can feel my heart beat all through my body. I eat healthy and work out. I've been hospitalized with dehydration many years ago and never had this feeling. Any advice?

I am a 49 year old male...since July 1983 I have been lightheaded 24/7...I have tried practically every medical tests as well as physciological testing and rxs...Lately I have even been getting dizzing feelings too...The drs say its anxiety and depression but after 31 years of constant lightheadedness of course someone would be nervous and edgy feeling like this every second of the day....Being on anti depressants is messing up other parts of my body...Any ideas???

I'm exactly like you, and I almost tested anything. and it was normal. Drs say that it's health anxiety, but this anxiety started when I felt this, and it's getting worse as I'm overthinking and processing every negative thoughts.
I don't want to try anti-anxiety/depressant pill unless I get really worse. The best thing is to keep myself busy otherwise I will drown in my negative thoughts.

I sympathise with you, I'm the same....been about 12 years now. I find exercise that gets your heart beating is helpful, I have a vigorous walk daily. Yes, I too was told its anxiety, but now believe that to be an answer for not knowing what the heck it is. Had MRI and seen Neuro, seen a physician, and lots of other tests. Nothing. Of course this makes you feel nervous. I have had anaemia in the past, and it is amazing how alike the feeling is. Except I know I'm not anaemic now, and yet driving over to the shop today I felt very unstable. No more driving while its like this. Next week it won't be as noticeable, and I will drive fine. Its up and down in intensity, and just wondering if others with this condition experience the headiness different and times in the month. I know for a fact alcohol the night before, even one glass, will make it worse. I also know that 3 days before monthlies, its definitely worse. So I'm thinking its a biological reaction to these things and not my thoughts. Cognitive behaviour therapy is what doctor sent me for, and was useless. Interested to know what you and others find make it worse or better???

I too don't want to go down the road of pills. As I was saying to svd's post, exercise seems to be the only true help. Abstaining from alcohol and coffee help too, which is annoying, because I like a drink of wine at night with my meal....lol

I first had lightheadedness when I was 23 in 1972. I got it after sitting for hours hand writing then stood up suddenly. Had varying degrees of it. Doctors found nothing wrong with me. Then one day twenty five years later I realized that when I turned my head suddenly while sleeping, the next day I was dizzy and lightheaded for weeks after that. Watched for that and got better. I notice now that when I look side to side repeatedly or up and down while working on the computer aggravates it quite a bit. I wrote a screenplay and worked on it for months six or eight hours a day. That did me in. Now it's back. I have read that it is probably benign positional vertigo (BPV) and that the Epley maneuver corrects it. Those are loose crystals inside your ear canals. After 45 years of it I am tired of it. It now keeps me from doing most anything. I am scheduled to visit a therapist, but I am scared they might make it worse.

I have had mine for about 10 months now too and the same as you, when I drink it does get better. I am assuming you mean alcohol? Water doesn't seem to help but I have noticed when I am out with friends on the weekend or out for dinner with my partner and I have a drink the lightheadedness seems to disappear.

I have quite intense anxiety and have had now for about 2 years. I only started getting the lightheadedness a few months ago and I don't believe it is related at all. It happens usually during the day for me, not so much at night and in the mornings. I get very lightheaded and sometimes feel as though I am going to faint or throw up. I have had every test available and all normal too. I think they say anxiety because they don't know what it is. However, if you are having negative thoughts like this I suggest seeing someone you can talk to. There is a technique called challenge negative thinking that I think will really help you.

I see a Dizziness and Vertigo specialist this week. A professor who is well versed in this area.....will be interesting to see what her opinion is. I have had this lightheaded thing for a very long time....getting on for over 10 years now, but more consistently here last 5 years. 10 years ago it could click in for a couple of days then disappear leaving me Normal again. Can never drive at speeds over 50 kph when feeling unsteady in head. Now avoid driving in main traffic as its too difficult, stick to slow roads around my home. Which is very limiting. Now its part of me but at different degrees depending on whether I have had an alcoholic drink, or am at that time of month for women. Always presents about 5 days before. Hormones?? It really is like not enough blood getting to head........I have looked at my face after taxing myself driving somewhere and very pale. Very alike Anaemia, funny head, unstable feeling.......except whenever I have blood test for that I'm perfectly fine. But it makes you feel the same, except not tired. What a puzzle.
