I have been lightheaded now for about 2 months and I went to eye doctor all is good, my primary doctor initally checked my balance, eyes, coordination and took blood work.  all ok.   Vitamin D was low but he did not think that is what is causing my issues.  I went to a physical therapist for my back problems and he checked my neck out because I have had some minor discomfort with my nect but found nothing that could cause my lightheadedness.  I am now going to a neurologist.  I am scared do not know what is going on and pray its nothing dangerous.  I have had anxiety for over 20 years and it could be related to stress with I deal with a lot.  Just wake up fine in the morning and as morning progresses it starts and I have to work like this all day.  when I get home it tends to calm down opr go away......  Just wanna know what it is?  I had two spinal epidural shots on my back in Feb but doctors say that is not what can be causing this but funny how I started getting this way about 3 weeks after the shots.

Actually Vertigo and lightheadedness are very different. I have had vertigo and that feels like the room is spinning and you feel like you are walking on a slant and it can make you throw up but this lightheadedness which is what I am now suffering with is different. It is a very strange feeling. I told my daughter it feels like my brain is farting lol. I really can't describe it but it is not vertigo. I am going to the Dr next week because it has been months and it is not getting better.

I am 41, and have been dealing with lightheadedness and vertigo for over a year now. I have been to my GP, an ENT, a physical therapist, a neurologist, and have had loads of tests done. MRI, and tests specialized for vertigo. They did discover that my vestibular nerve is somehow working at a reduced rate. They don't know if it is Meniere's disease or just an inflammation, but, I am seeing a vertigo specialist in October. Frankly, no one seems to really know why, or what is going on.

The whole thing does make me anxious, and I empathize with everyone on here. Keep pushing your doctors to help you figure it out - and I agree that reducing stress and bad habits is an important step...but also, difficult to do when the feeling prompts stress, which in turn, ups the desire to smoke.

I was told not to drink any alcohol as it makes it worse, and I have not tested this. Nor will I.

Sigh....It is isolating, but, important to talk about it, and share this with others.

Have had this condition for 7-8 years, tried everything - Clonazapam helped at first, but a couple years ago, the condition escalated, so saw neurologist, did every test known possible - no answers. It is worse now, require a walker for balance and safety. Do NOT have vertigo/dizziness - symptoms are pronounced when I'm upright and moving about, feel wonderful when lying down, sleep well. Drive safely, head not really moving - can do 15 min. on a treadmill daily, again the head isn't moving.
Your suggestions give me hope - my chiropractor has been frustrated because my neck tightens up a lot.

Had lightheadiness and fatigue and headaches for 6 Month. Had EKg, stress echo,  upper spine xray, sleep tests, EEG, Pulmanary Function test,  Saw GP's,Chiropractor, nuerologist, Sleep specialist, ENT, and had physical therapy. Finally my symptons are starting to let up some. I am just guessing what it was that helped but after PT for bad upper neck spine and a CPAP machine for sleep apnea I am actually better functioning and can lead an almost normal life. I think stress also plays a part. The only bad part about it was that I never got a diagnosis.

Hope you all can start to feel better also

Good luck

Doug

hi Segesta,

have you found out what was wrong?
4 weeks ago, I started with foggy brain and occasional "swirl" in my head for abt 2 secs.
then the 2nd week, foggy brain gone, heavy head came in, and I had more lightheadedness.
4th week, heavy head much lesser, but the light headedness can be constant throughout the day,, except sleeping time.
It's like what you described, I don't see things spinning, but feel like im going to faint, or imbalance.
But if I walk fast, the feeling is gone.
days ago, I noticed hissing in my ears,, more prominent if I tilt my head backwards.

The doc said stress/ anxiety??
but I find it hard to believe tat anxiety can give out such real symptoms?
I told her I fear brain tumor, but she said my symptoms r not symptoms of tat.
and so she said I can take MRI for peace of mind, but she doesn't think I should waste my money.

I just feel so crippled, I used to be active and fast, and now I seem to be so passive and depressed.
Just feel like crying sometimes.

40 yrs old Male . Lightheadedness going on since 2008. 5 years this month. Comes and goes. EEg, Ekg. Ct scan. Allergy Doc. 2 Neurologist. 2 Psychologist .One of the explanations were Allergies. No. Seizures. No. BP no. Blood  Marked for lupus, but with no symptoms... just add to the list. Anxiety . No . I get through work, try to stay active. Getting slowly worse. Seems days drag along when my concentration is for c**p.

Periactin was given to me by a neurologist. Which eased some of the swimming head but not all. Taking 4 a day to keep on a level field. Tried some of the ADHD meds. Can keep it together longer for work. But not a all day fix.

Wish you all the best and follow up with a 2nd option. Or 3rd . Or 4th.

Hi, I've been having this slight light headed feeling for the past few days and this heavy headed feeling on the centre of my head along with some tension near the back of my neck. Luckily I think I've found a cure for many of you. Cures 1. Trigger points: for many of you this may be the case, trigger points are small points deep in the neck tissue, that can become damaged, stretched or put pressure on, blood flows throw them to the brain along with oxygen, when the brain doesn't get enough oxygen, many things can occur such as light headedness, slurred speech, dizziness, numbness, etc. how to tell if trigger points are your problem?, simply visit a neurologist to have them check your trigger points they will simply apply pressure to your trigger points and if your symptoms show than that's the problem. Also you don't need neck pain to damage your trigger points. It can occur from awkwardly sleeping on your neck, some people work desk jobs and stretch there head down a lot. What's the treatment? It's called counter strain your neurologist can refer you to a physiotherapist to get it done. Or you can simply go and ask your physiotherapist and ask for it. Or ask a massage therapist for a deep tissue massage on your neck ( be cautious with massage therapists). 2. Anxiety: many of you don't actually have it in your normal life, but the feeling of anxiety with this light headedness problem says you do. If many of you constantly think about your symptoms, have butterfly feelings when you walk and feel light headed, spend your time googling for a cure, or have thought you may have a tumor etc. then in that case you are suffering from anxiety. Anxiety can make your symptoms worse, anxiety can really cause these feelings of light headedness, dizziness, nausea, depression, don't feel like eating, irritability. Remember the body and brain communicate with one another. If you are in constant fear your body will keep releasing adrenaline. That's where the fatigue for many of you may be coming from adrenaline fatigue is the medical term. So how do you treat anxiety?. For many people on this forum they just taught themselves to ignore the symptoms and told themselves it's not going to kill them. There's a few people in this forum there symptoms left after 3 months max. What else can you so? We'll see psychologist, undergo cognitive therapy, I don't really recommend medications unless you feel you need it. Also many of you mentioned your afraid to drive or go out in public, agoraphobia another anxiety induced problem. 3. Many of you may actually be suffering from a real problem but nothing extreme. You may need to see a neurologist to do a tilt table test. May need to see a Ear, Neck, Throat specialist to see if there is a difference in pressure in any of those areas. Especially if your symptoms of dizziness occurred after a cold, flu, sinus. Then most likely you probably have either a middle ear infection, or inner ear. So it's a good idea to visit an audiologist. Something like an antibiotic can cure your problem if it's a inner ear infection, some cases you may need surgery. Your "balance system" is a combination of your ears and eyes. 4. Some of you in this forum combatted the symptoms of light headedness etc. through exercise and a healthy diet. It doesn't hurt to try and make your life better. Exercise is a natural stress and anxiety buster. 5. Eye site, for some of you it may be simply a problem of vision nothing too extreme but some slight vision problem, goto an optometrist and get your eyes checked. I am very sure at least one of these can help you. Don't let anxiety worsen your symptoms.

Ask a physiotherapist or chiropractor to take an X-ray of your spinal cord and neck as discs or bones pressing on nerves can cause neural discharges to your brain causing they dizziness

When doctors ask you to: - do a blood test - see a neurologist - see a ENT specialist - do bunch of other tests They're not doing all that to ultimately determine your problem, one of main reasons you have to do the " run around" is for the doctors to rule out any medical reasons for your symptoms. KEEP IN MIND dizziness, light headedness, heavy headedness are not diseases there symptoms of an underlying cause. None of you should be suffering from this for years that's too long. At max maybe a few months. If you are suffering from this for years your missing something. Because it's a fact dizziness is not a disease only a symptom of an underlying problem. See the following: - family physician - neurologist - ear throat neck specialist - physiotherapist - chiropractor - psychologist (if all tests prove otherwise) Make sure these people have experience in what you're symptoms are. There's plenty of articles published that talk about the things that cause dizziness. For most of you I believe it is your neck, the discs are probably pinching a nerve causing all of this. Also anyone with mercury fillings in there teeth will suffer from the toxic effects of mercury poising. Again, none of you are hopeless. No one should be suffering from these problems for years. There are solutions, you have to ask the right questions, explain as much as possible in detail your symptoms. There's a cure for dizziness you just need to find what the cause is.

I have been experiencing daily headaches and lightheadedness since I had a minor surgical procedure on my spine a year ago. I can tolerate the headaches but the lightheadedness is debilitating. I have been through every test imaginable, including an MRI of my brain. One of the neurologists I saw diagnosed me with New Daily Persistent Headaches. I never had headaches prior to the surgery. The surgery literally turned my life upside down. Are you continuing to experience lightheadedness? If not, what helped you overcome it?

I have been dealing with this lightheaded issue for over 6 months now and nothing seems to work. The only help that I have found and it is only temporary relief but it did help.  Take a Ginger supplement, you can find it on amazon or your local herb shop. Yes Ginger root in a capsule or caplet.

Hope this helps someone.
