That is entirely incorrect. Diphenhydramine is a less sedating medication, and doesn't work for longer periods of time. Doxylamine is much stronger and it does not build up a tolerance in your system, like the diphenhydramine does. But doxylamine is known to cause a more sleepy/hang-over type of affect the following day (as opposed to diphenhydramine, where the effects wear off very quickly).
I'd recommend Valerian Root, much better sleep aid and all natural.

So many theories for the paradoxical impact. Myelin sheath damage, low testosterone, ADHD, and the excess dopamine as Benadryl is an anticholinergic and as cholinergic stuff decreases it's competitor dopamine comes out to play. Plus Benadryl is also a mild anti-depressant. Doxylamine has a narrower range of impacts. Tolerance does not build. It can be annoying because it has anticholinergic effects even at a low dose. Therefore, can also some days work as a stimulant.
Diphenhydramine IS in Unisom. Not Doxy.
Correction: The Unisom GEL TABS have Diphenhydramine. The Unisom TABLETS have Doxylamine Succinate. I didn't now there were two different Unisom products out there.
For what it's worth, I've been using the Unisom gel tab version for a couple of years with success. I just tried the generic Doxy tablet version last night and I had trouble waking up this morning...lol. The do seem more potent for me. I'll try a half-tablet dose tonight and see what happens.

Hope you realise you just replied to a junky who made no sense whatsoever. The world record for staying awake from insomnia is violently long. you could go see a doctor explain your problems and tell them you do your research because well if you cared you'd know that seroquel IR (instant release) is what they give to patients with insomnia. The third strongest sedative on the market.
