Doing so much better now, back to work a couple of weeks ago (when my sick note ran out). No real pain and no more spasms. Normal diet, normal BMs, very easy to pass, but still takes a while to clean up as lots of blood still after each BM.

Most people seem to have had several checkups by now, yet my *first* checkup is still 4 weeks away (10 weeks after op!).

One question: How long does it normally take for the bleeding to stop?
What sort of procedure was done? Normally physicians should be following up with patients at regular intervals post-op. Generally first follow up should occur within a week after discharge from hospital, depending if bed rest was ordered for a certain amount of time.

Oops, sorry. Hemorroidectomy.

Hi jeff,
It should usually be from two to three moths. But from what I have read here in other threads (members personal experiences), some have problems even later. But usually they also have problems with BM and stitches. As I can see you are having good experience, with normal diet and BM. So I would like to rush in front of things, but it seams that you will be all good in no time.
If it is not a too big problem could you post here how did you manage things in these first 52 days.
Thank you.

Not all that eventfull to be honest. This is the truth regardless of how some people see it.

Did nothing out of the ordinary before hospital. Normal diet, attended work, etc.
Day 1 - Admit myself to hospital, have enema injected into anal opening to empty myself out. 2 hours later go in for operation.
Day 2 - Stayed in hospital overnight, uneventful, no pain and no painkillers admitted. Discharged late afternoon. Drove to town center, walked to nearest bar and bought myself a pint and some tea, then afterwards drove home. Still no pain so didn't bother with any medication.
Day 3 - No BM since day 1 so took 1 pkt of regulan (and every day for next 4 weeks). Walked around, sat in garden. Getting painful spasms whenever I climb or descend steps, but ignore them. Thought it best to remove all the dressing now before I need to go. Very painful.
Day 4 - Urge to go, but no dice. Sweat down face, immense pain, in absolute agony. Give up with BM but can't stand. Eventually able to and decided to lie on bed. After 15 minutes get bored with that and walk outside. Painful but I ignore it as don't want constripating effects of painkillers.
Day 5&6 - Same as 4.
Day 7 - First proper BM after 3 very painful attempts. Feel very relieved.
Week 2 - Normal but painful BMs, at least I can stand up at the end however rather than being in agony trying. On two of the days as soon as BM over with, I went food and clothing shopping.
Week 3 - Back to work.

Medication wise, Over the first 2 weeks I ended up taking 3 Paracetamol tablets, and used about 1/3rd of a tube of Instillagel to numb the appropriate areas. There might have been better medication to take but I had these in the house. I decided on the Instillagel due to it's lidocaine content.

So what did I do over the first 2 weeks compared to before the operation? Very little. Starting taking regulan, and lay down a lot more than sitting. There was a couple of days I didn't want much to each, but others I was fine and eat as normal.

All in all, my discharge sheet says I had 1 large fourth degree hem and 1 third degree hem removed. It also says 2 second degree hems were treated but not removed. I can only guess what they did there.

HI Jeff,
first thank you for your info. It is very appreciated. And it seams that first and second week were not very good. But it is good that it is all over.
Second I'm just interested if doctor has suggested you to apply Instillgel?

No, doctor didn't suggest it. All they said was the obvious - "If you have any pain, try a painkiller such as paracetamol.". However, I thought it was the perfect time to use such gel before it goes out of date, and since I didn't have any actual creams containing anesthetic.

Hi Jeff,
Well doctor didn't give you too many options. But good that you had it at your house.
I also read on other threads that people are using rectagel or linocaine gel. Have you heard about these before or maybe used any?

Hi Lovelykiddos,
All of this is on individual basis, if you ask me. Some of you have really bad experience with all of these but some are good to go in no time. Like Jeff here. And he is the sunshine on the end of the tunnel. Isn't he? :-)
I really hope that you will get better as soon as possible.
