Hi, my grandmother is 65 years old and lately she is not willing to do anything, being in mess, losing concentration very easily. She is not in the mood for things she usually likes to do. Is depression effecting elder people and what can be the cause?

Hi, my mother is 72 year-old widow getting senile. She was confused and forgetful all the time. She lost her husband 5 years ago, but lately she was feeling bad about him loss almost every day. Geriatric specialist gave her another diagnose depression, not senility. As soon as she was put on antidepressive medications and joined a widows support group, she felt better. Her memory improved a lot and she wasn’t crying any more over her husbands death. Depression as clinical disease is not just beinf down, unsatisfied, it is specially dangerous if it keeps going on. The condition needs to be treated and it’s influence shouldn’t be undermined at elder people, as well.
