Hi;
I've had a tonsillectomy on the 30th of October and since then I can't open my mouth. My jaw seems to be locked on the left side and it is quite painful. I can barely fit my toothbrush in. I've seen an ENT on Tuesday and he barely said anything about this issue except prescribe muscle relaxant; that haven't helped at all.
This is really starting to worry me. I knew I'd be in pain and all but, I was never told that I wouldn't be able to fit a spoon with food in my mouth without major pain in me left TMJ.
Has this happened to any of you?
Thank you.

Yes! I've had this exact same experience except on the right side. I have TMJ, so I almost expected this. I wouldn't worry too much. I was informed that your body doesn't fully recover for an entire month. Now, that doesn't mean you're stuck with this pain for a month. By the two week mark the scabs should fall off and eating solid foods won't be as tough. You should also experience a noticeable amount of reduced pain in the throat. If your jaw persists to be a problem, I would see a dentist. I received a mouthgaurd which snaps my jaw back into place. All in all, I don't think it's something to worry about. I think it will heal itself.
