Most diets will tell you to "Only eat when you are hungry." Well, although I do not have a weight problem, my eating has NOTHING to do with being hungry. I just like to eat! I love the way food tastes. Eating is an "experience" for me. How do people who want to diet able to work with this directive? I can't even process that idea. So if you take an appetite inhibitor, how does that work for people who love food? We are really supposed to eat very small meals (about 8) throughout the day, like pregnant women are supposed to do. This also keeps your metabolism rate up. I guess that plan would allow us to eat frequently, so that works for me. However, how do you strong people control your desire to enjoy food? I am not talking about those who struggle with eating as a source of stress relief. That's a different question. For those of you who love food, like me...What's your solution?

I enjoy food as well, but am careful what kind of foods I enjoy. I live by the mantra, while all things might be good, not all things are profitable. The five small meals a day works great for me and keeps me full and my metabolism high - thus no weight issues. Also, exercise is key to keep your body moving and healthy. You can still enjoy food, but everything in moderation I suppose. At least that works for me. I love food, but have found that I don't use food as a reward system - that falls back on emotional eating or stress relief eating as you mentioned. Also, you can eat anything you want as long as you don't over-consume. Again, all things in moderation. While it would be nice to consume cheesecake for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, as well as the two meals in between, it is certainly not profitable and we would be feeling the after-shock for days.

Your so right Brenda:
I actually follow the principals of eating correctly. I do treat myself, however, and I do so on specific days of the week so that I'll have something to look forward to. That's how I manage to stay in shape. I wanted to ponder that question with other people because a couple of my girlfriends and I always laugh at the "don't eat if you're not hungry" rule. I'm really interest to see who else feels the same way. I really appreciate your response.

I agree, the "don't eat when you are not hungry" rule is such an interesting concept, because in order to keep your metabolism up and running effectively you are most likely going to eat when you are not hungry. There are times when I feel hungry twenty-four hours per day, so that's an issue in itself :-D Yes, I am curious what others have to say about this - what works for you?
