I have had this problem for about two years now I've had acrylic nails as well for a long time. Went to a doctor and it turned out to be finger eczema. My doctor said it is from too much stress on the body. He has given me steroid cream and some antibiotics and said once it heals i should be able to have them again, or worst case scenario I'm allergic.

I have been having the same issue, and was told it's the primer.  Most primers for acrylic nails contains acid...that's the culprit.  An acid-free primer is available, it's made with proteins and is supposed to work just as well, without the side effects.  I just ordered a bottle from Amazom.com. Unfortunately my nail salon is not interested in getting it for me, so I'll buy my own and see if it works.   I'ts worth a try!

For the last couple of months I have done my own nails and am using Kiss glue on nails with Nailene glue.  No more issues!  Don't know what exactly was causing the reaction but I would have a hard time going back to the nail salon and trying it again.

I also have these problems. I take Benadryl right after I have my nails done, then every 6hrs for a day after. This took it all away. Hope it helps, I've had acrylics for 4yrs now.

I've gone back today after a year and a few months and my new nails are already starting to give me greif. from what I've found online there is not much hope for the acrylic loving girls out there, once you've started having bad reactions they don't go away. Calamine lotion and cortisone creams may help ease the symptoms but don't seem to fix the problem; they have to be removed. Sorry. PS I haven't had a hysterectomy or any surgery so I doubt that it is part of the cause.

I have had the same reactions, red blistering around the nail, throbbing, swelling, itchiness & dry skin caused by allergy to acrylic. I have to use a fungus killer & cuticle oil & cream to repair my nails but can't fix the fact that I'm allergic to acrylic!

Acrylic nails are plastic nails that get glues on your nails and it is made by liquid and a powder (a monomer and a polymer) which forms a liquid of thick consistency that's why if you use to dry your acrylic nails with a uv nailto get nails. Your naol dry faster and grow better. For more information visit:

My throbbing itching reaction never happened with acrylic, it happened when I started gel nails. I don't know if it is an allergy to one or more of the gel products, or if it is a reaction to the UV light, it almost makes me wonder if the light is burning my skin in some way, like a cold sore/herpes reaction from intense sun exposure? The "machine" you refer to is a UV light. I hope you don't have the same problem with gel nails, but unfortunately, I have it and am worried that this will never go away.

Let me know if the acid free works. I wonder if the primer is only for acrylic nails, or if it is the same thing as the PH product I put on my nails before the gel nail process? I am willing to try anything at this point. The professional gel kit I bought starts with using a PH product on the nails, then the basecoat, uv light, color, uv light, another coat of color, uv light, top coat, uv light, and then you wipe your nails with a blue liquid to make them shiny and not sticky.

I would like to know if you have success. Thanks.

I also do my nails at home, myself, and it has gotten to the point that I often get compliments on them from total strangers. Now I get tiny, raised blisters, intense itching, some swelling, and pain. When that subsides I peel. So very, very sad!

I am typing this with 7 bandaids on 6 fingers.

I've been getting my nails done for about 10 years but for the last 3 years my fingers (just around the fingertips) crack open and start bleeding.  I love getting my nails done because without acrylics I hate my hands! Does anyone else have that problem?
