I took plan B for the first time 4 weeks ago. I have being extremely irritable and overreacting. I’ve been sad and just not feeling like myself.
Over 6 months ago I lost my dog who I love very much, I lost my job but I found a new one with same pay and It’s been a lot but I’ve been handling... I’ve been okay and making sure I’m paying attention to how I feel.
Now that I’ve took this pill I feel like a nutcase! This month I’ve been going off or getting hurt or anxious over small things and noticing it’s small afterwards. I know this has to be the plan b pill.. I’ve been reading and seeing there are other women who have been affected emotionally for days, weeks and months.
So I’m not sure if plan B is affecting some of us worse than others because we are going through something or have went through something recently.. but I know something is off.
She had her period in late April. Couple of days before ending that period we had sex, condom broke, so she immediately took Plan B that day. Unfortunately she reacted very strongly to Plan B. Was very nauseous all day for 6 weeks straight, dizzy for several of the first few days, very fatigued, had some lower back pain and lower abdomen pain.
We weren’t initially worried based on the fact that we had sex during the end of her period, she has a regular cycle and she took Plan B immediately. However, then she missed her first period, then missed her second. Also during these roughly 3 months without a period she was constantly nauseated daily, very fatigued, had a large increase in appetite, had pain in her lower back, mild cramps in her lower abdomen and more substantial cravings for certain foods. Also, 36 days after her last period (40 days after taking Plan B) she had a few hours of light spotting, but that’s it, no real period. However, the light spotting that day was accompanied by intense sharp pain all that day.
So most of these are signs (except the sharp pain) were freaking me out and pointing to unplanned pregnancy. She was scared to take the test, so initially wouldn’t. But after the second missed period she finally took it two different days, both times negative.
She finally got her period 11 weeks after (mid July) her last real period (late April). This period was heavier than normal. All those other pregnancy-like symptoms finally subsided with this period. Still can’t explain it other than I think that Plan B understates its side effects and duration. Posting this for awareness and hopefully to put some people online at ease.
If you actually read up on any emergency contraception it will tell you under the side effects that those symptoms can be possible on rare occasions, the most common being delayed or missed period, the fact she missed two could also be put down to stress of missing the first.
