Hi, I broke my left clavicle in Dec 07 - didn't heal so was advised to have surgery. I had the surgery in Sept 08, plate and 6 screws. 2 of the end screws ahve come loose and are sticking out - really painful. Surgeon has advised he wants to take the plate and all screws out !!! I am slightly on edge as it's such a short space of time since having them put in - will they have done thier job?? Op is booked for 19th June 09.... Any advice please ???? HC

Hi:

Here's my advise.....GET A SECOND OPINION...NOW!! Was your lack of proper healing due to your bodies rejection of some material? That might be understandable. If it is unexplained and he wants to just take it all out and put it back in again, I would be VERY suspicious. Check with an extremely reputable doctor at a teaching hospital before I let the same surgeon open me up again. Without a very plausible explanation....beware. I can't caution you enough. If you feel, however, that this doctor knows what he's doing because you've done your homework, than take his advise. The point of the surgery was to normalize your function. If that is not the case post surgery, it will have to be corrected. Just make sure that you know who you're dealing with. Things will work out for you....it's not heart surgery after all...but it's still serious....Let us know what the second doctor says...Second opinions are important. Don't deny yourself that opportunity.

If the screws and plates come loose of UR c4c5 verdibrate and the DR goes in and take it out then replace it right back then had to put more screws and plates in to fix the 2 verdibrate above it.is that normal.
