38 yo m drank at least a twelve pack a night five day a week m-f for five years.I was a weekend binge drinker before that . I do hard labor five days a week i am fit and eat real food. and then one Saturday morning after drinking about 35 beers the night before. I felt fine ate breakfast around ten bid a job around eleven then at about twelve it hit me! it came in waves strong for about two hours i was just gonna tell me wife to bring me to ER I felt inches from blacking out i tuffed it through one more wave and it slowly subsided over the following hours VARY SCARY. I stop drinking for about a month and then drank one day a week until another episode cant breath and inches from blacking out .That was two years age I've had probably had 8 episodes sense then were i feel like i'm dying the day after i drink even after i have drastically cut back on amount and how often. It had been a good three weeks sense i had a drink so i had 8 beers around 5.9 abv the next morning same feeling as everyone has explained but never any numbness that was two month age. i haven't had a drop sense. thank you Jesus . i also can t drink coffee without felling like passing out sense all this happened . about three years back a old friend told me he quit drinking. Just the thought of quitting was like some kind of sick joke. So i sarcastically asked him how he did it he didn't give a answer. For me its like i was in a smoked filled room the smoke being the alcohol the room being my body the less smoke that was in the room the better i could see the emergency exits. THANK YOU ALL for the information. I haven't been able to find anyone going through the same thing.I cant find a way to avoid it . I guess its two beers or nothing and it never ends up being two beers.

This started happening to me about a month ago when I binge drank 4 nights in a row, and I mean like seriously drank all day/night because it was fall break. After drinking the fourth night I couldn't sleep for one second. When the sun came up, I just felt extremely hungover/still drunk from the four day bender. It wasn't until later in the evening towards the night, my heart started pumping out of my chest, and I could barely breathe. I was terrified and called my mom, sisters, almost even the ambulance, but my mom told me to hang in and wait for the morning. I didn't get an ounce of sleep but the intense difficulty in breathing went away throughout the day and came right back the next night and after a long battle of getting up to chug water, blasting the fan so I could get deep breaths, and sometimes even losing vision when I couldn't get deep enough breaths. I pretty much had to concentrate on my breathing in order to get enough air, but at the same time I was so tired I had to try to fall asleep. The worst part was four or five times, I would fall asleep for a split second and wake up in a panic and have to take a huge breath. I could feel my heart beating against my bed which was making it hard to relax. I don't know if the heart palpitations or short breath was setting the other off, but it was very scary. The craziest thing about it all is I have been heavily drinking throughout my college career, usually binge drinking, dabbling with stimulants for studying and occasionally for going out, but this is the first time anything like this happened to me. Sometimes after a long weekend I could feel my heart beat a little heavy but nothing like this. After not drinking, this went away for a while, until I drank heavily again, and it came back, lasting like 5 days over thanksgiving break. I didn't drink and it went away, then I tried drinking literally a beer and a mixed drink towards the end of break, and it came back minorly. The only cause I can think of if even the slightest amount of alcohol is causing this is allergies. I know that every few times I drink, I get blotches on my face and down my shoulders. Maybe I reached a breaking point, not sure, but I am going to get it checked out soon. Does anyone know what this could be? Even when I am having these episodes, I don't actually feel anxious at all, but people keep saying its in my head, when I honestly feel like its something to do with my body.

Yes I have some of your symptoms after binge drinking once in a while. Shortness of breath a day and days after from the puking the night and day after. Normal?? I have same things you have. I'm 41.

I had your exact symptoms about a month ago for the first time in my life (I'm 32 and I've been an occasional binge drinker on the weekends since College). It took over a week for the symptoms to subside. I had my first drink last night since and I started having some of the same symptoms (after only 1 drink)... This sounds bad but it honestly helps knowing I'm not the only one that had this happen. I was thinking something may be seriously wrong with my heart or something. I think it's got to be related to anxiety. Thanks for sharing.

Its like im talking to myself here. I have terrible hangovers, and its not hangovers like my stomach hurts its like im weak, feel like my arm is numb, shortness of breath, like im havin a heart attack, been to er 3-4 times, cardiologist 2 times and regular dr countless times. All say same thing...anxiety. Seems hard to believe that anxiety can make one feel that way but its all too real.

Oh I’m currently going through it right now. Had so much beer and tequila just last night.

Getting better but still not 100%.

Just started Zoloft a week ago, seems to be helping.

Everyone pay attention. 400 mg magnesium glycinate relieves alcohol shortness of breath and anxiety. Alcohol abuse depletes magnesium levels to dangerous low levels. Try it it worked for me.. I thought I was dying and had heart problems. Also take coq10 if you are going to abuse alcohol. Just might save you from alcohol sudden death. I was sober 14 years and fell off wagon March 26th 2017. So so sad

Hi. I am a binge drinker. I do drink at least twice a month and every time I drink, I drink a lot. I usually have about 300ml to 400ml of scotch. Just clean shots. I rarely puke, and I rarely lose control. I usually gets around pretty well even after heavy drinks. Usually after such nights of heavy drink, I sleep for about 5 hours, and I get ready in the morning and usually head to work at 7am. Everyone is usually amazed to know how quickly I am to recover, knowing that I was dead drunk.

However, things changed. Last week, I had 500ml of 8.8% vol strong beer, and 1l of 4.4% vol beer before I go to a party. I was feeling really good. The party had Scotch, and I have a problem when it comes to Scotch. I do not have self control. I first had 2 whiskey shots on the rocks. Then I had another doubled whiskey drinks (2 drinks) on the rocks, and had about 4 plain shots of whiskey as well. I was okay for a while, and suddenly in the party itself I lose control, and my friends took me home.

After about sleeping for 4 hours, I was suddenly awake due to heavy acid reflux and had to puke. The next day, I felt like real c**p. For some weird reason, I felt real guilty. I usually feel this after my binge drink sessions. However, this was different. I was feeling very low, and I had a slight cold as well. One of my friends visited me, and I decided to have a walk with him. While I was walking, I had an episode of shortness of breath, coupled with some bad anxiety. It felt like I was about to die. I was about to have a faint attack. So I quickly got back to my place and rested.

Even the next day, the breathing problem remained, I was still feeling like c**p. Also, I was feeling very depressed, constantly thinking something bad might happen. This is the first time, this happened. I really like to drink. However, now I am afraid to drink. It is been 3 days, and I still have some feverish symptoms, and my mood is lighting up normally.

I've been getting this as well. The feeling of intense anxiety, can't calm down, shortness of breath, and, probably unrelated, a small cough (it is cough and flu season) that doesn't help matters. Usually go out twice per week, to socialize with friends of mine at a local sports bar, and, since the days are spaced out, no real problem. Lately, though, it's been 3 days, since the bar started trivia and we all go. Ever since, and, keeping up the three nights per week (even though I did miss one or two), I've been getting the anxiety and shortness of breath. My tolerance just isn't what it once was, and, I'm ok with that.

Just need to make the changes, and start blowing off one night per week. Probably when we do Tuesday nights. These last few weeks have been real eye-openers for me. Being able to breathe and calm down far outweighs going for a few beers. Think I've learned my lesson.

I have been drinking 30 beers a night for the past 2 years. I had 3 beers yesterday and none today. I know I'm gonna go through withdrawals. What can I expect and for how long?
