Due to the less than favorable conditions here in the last couple of weeks, ok I wussed out going outside! I opted for the treadmill here at the gym at work, now my knee's and shin's are saying thank you very much we feel like sh*t. I've never been a fan of the dreadmill and now will only use the gym for the bikes and upper body. Lesson well learned. Anyone else have similar problems when using the dreadmill?

I developed at last winter because I ran exclusively on the treadmill. I have learned that although it's nice to run inside, I have to save it for really cold days and blizzards and go out and face the elements, I actually don't mind running on it, just the fact that I got injured on it.

I must do something weird with my stride when on a treadmill. I'm not sure what, but I must. I also feel like I'm running harder than when I am on the roads. What's that all about?

I get so bored running on the mill. Even with my MP3 player, I still can't last that long on it. I'll take the roads on day.

Jon,

Say it ain't so!!!! Just nuisance pain or injury pain??? I can't stand running on the 'mill and have only done it 3 times. 2 of those were this week and I could feel it. My ITB's were really tight and fatigued and my shins were hating me. The past few days I have been back on the road and just today I feel better. I'll take the roads anyday.

Coach, I feel the same way, it takes more effort to run slower on the treadmill.

Paul just a nuisance pain, nothing more but I did bug out of my run yesterday as a precaution and played hockey this morning with no problem.
I agree with all you guys, I'll take the roads any day and the funny thing is I ran all last winter in any condition and now that we moved buildings with a gym available it was too easy to go use the mill, but I wont anymore!

I'm the same way. My ankles and shins get extremely tight after just 20 minutes on the TM. On the roads, I run a training pace between 6:30-7:30. That range is fairly easy for me to do. But, when I run on the TM an 8:00 - 10:00 pace just kills me. It really, really, really sucks.
I guess it is better than nothing. The only time I'll consider running the TM now is if I'm sick and staying inside would be better for me.
What I don't get are the people the run on the treadmills exclusively. 60 degrees and sunshine, and they go inside on the TM. I don't get it.
