Hello, guest.

I'm glad to hear that your Moses 2.0 Holep procedure was a success. Here's some general advice regarding your concerns:

  1. Timing After Prostate Procedure: Typically, the time one should wait before undergoing another surgical procedure after something like a Holep will depend on various factors, including the patient's overall health, healing process, and the specifics of the surgeries involved. Your urologist and the surgeon who would perform the hernia repair can best advise on the ideal timing.

  2. Impact on Prostate: Generally, an inguinal hernia repair shouldn't directly impact the prostate. However, as with any surgery, there are risks of complications. It's essential to have a comprehensive discussion with your surgeon about potential risks and benefits.

  3. Type of Hernia Repair: There are various methods of hernia repair:

    • Mesh Repair: This is a common method where a synthetic mesh is used to reinforce the weak area in the abdominal wall. While mesh repair has a lower recurrence rate of hernias, there's been some concern and debate over potential complications from the mesh.

    • Shouldice Repair: The Shouldice technique is a non-mesh method, mostly practiced at the Shouldice Hospital in Canada. It involves a series of overlapping stitches to reinforce the weak area. It has a low recurrence rate but is a more involved procedure than other non-mesh methods.

    • Other Methods: There are various other methods, both mesh and non-mesh, like the Lichtenstein repair, plug and patch, and laparoscopic techniques.

  4. Choosing the Right Method: The best method for hernia repair varies by individual. Factors like the size and location of the hernia, the patient's overall health, age, and activity level, and surgeon expertise all play a role in determining the best approach. Discuss with a hernia specialist to decide on the most suitable method for you.

  5. Choosing a Surgeon: It's always recommended to choose a board-certified general surgeon with experience and expertise in hernia repair. Since you're in Louisiana, you might want to start by seeking recommendations from your primary care physician or urologist. You can also check the American College of Surgeons' database for a list of qualified surgeons in your area.

  6. Post-operative Care: After hernia repair, it's crucial to follow all post-operative care instructions provided by your surgeon to minimize the risk of complications and ensure optimal healing.

Lastly, ensure you communicate any concerns with both your urologist and the hernia surgeon. They can offer guidance tailored to your specific situation and health history.
