i also have an allergy to chicken, eggs and turkey. Even powdered eggs in instant pancake mixes, i must read every ingredient on boxes to make sure no eggs of any kind or chicken broth are listed. If i do eat these things i am in the bathroom within a half an hour throwing up , diarrhea , severe bloating of gas that puts me in the bed with a heating pad on my stomach for a good four to five hours. It is truly awful. Like most everyone said check a menu , you dont have much of a choice these days, chicken is supposed to be good for you but there a few of us out there that disagree.

I am allergic to Poultry as well.. I have always been a little curious about Duck and Ostrich but too afraid to try it..

It hit me on my 12th birthday. When I was a kid my favorite foods were chicken (everything from baked, fried, chicken nuggets), turkey sandwiches and omlets.. That was pretty much the bulk of my diet to be honest. But also I remember since i was maybe 4 or 5 telling my parents my stomach hurt. Almost every time that I ate I would tell them that my stomach hurt.. My dad told me that I was a hypochondriac and didnt believe me. For that matter, he still is skeptical about my allergy but they just gave up arguing with me about it. My mother on the other hand, witness first hand how bad I got.

This is what happened. Within about an 1-3 hours I would start getting chills and would burp the taste of stomach acid.. For those of you who do not know that taste, just think of the scent of rotten eggs. When that happened i would get a strong wave of shakes.. It gradually progressed from that to getting gas too.. About 6-10 hours later (depending on the amount that I ate) i would get diarrhea once or twice and then the burping stomach acid taste would turn for the worse.. I would throw up for about an hour or two. I get a really high temperature as well, something like 103 ish. If someone placed their hand on my stomach it felt like it was burning. And for me, it felt like something was trying to claw its way out of my stomach. The pain was excruciating. After throwing up for the two hours I would end up blacking out on the bathroom floor. For the following 10-12 hours I would be throwing up stomach acid every hour on the hour and then black out again.

The following day I would be able to keep down 7 up and crackers but generally wouldnt push myself much more than that. After a couple of times where eating much more than that made me relapse into the waves of chills/shaking and vomitting, I didnt want to push my luck. It took me several months to link what was making me sick.. At first I thought it was food poisoning. But over the next two years it continued. At first, I stopped eating chicken (or so I thought) and kept getting sick. Eggs were okay for a few months but then they caused the same reaction. Even when I quit eating chicken and eggs I would get sick at random, so when i was 14 I became a vegetarian. At that point I realized everything that had chicken and eggs in them. After about a year of being a vegetarian I really wanted a turkey sandwich from Subway and decided it would be okay. I found out then that I couldnt process turkey either.

I maintained being a vegetarian for 3. Since then i have only had a reaction once, pumpkin pie is not my friend either.

Also! Everyone on here needs to be aware that you are allergic to the FLU SHOT and MMR's! So no measels, mumps and rubella shots for us. My college requires a written note from my doctor every year because I don't/can't have "updated shots."

I know that an egg allergy is common but it is nice to know i am not the only weirdo in the world. And from reading these i am not the only one who has similar reactions to this.

A friend of mine gets the same reaction with artificial sweeteners.

Sometimes the chicken allergy is actually an allergy to the antibiotic used in chickens. It can affect people so that they are allergic to the egg yolk as well. Mexico does not use these antibiotics and the US started using them heavily around 1980.

I have been allergic to chicken for about 2 years now and just recently became allergic to turkey as well. My symptoms when I have eaten them is my body itches all over inside and out but I don't break out in hives or anything and I can still eat eggs without them bothering me! Everyone thought I was crazy and just saying that but I love chicken and turkey so why would I just say that. I wish there was a cure or something I could take to be able to eat them again! I thought maybe it was hereditary because my aunt and two of my uncles are allergic also and does the same thing to them on my dads side of the family. I just want some answers so people quit giving me c**p about it.

I too am allergic to chicken. Not allergic to eggs. I think it started chronically in my mid 20's because at that time i didnt get sick everytime I ate chicken. I thought it was just a case of bad chicken. It was a hit or miss. Now its every single time I eat chicken. I do not get hives or itchiness. My symptoms are serious fatigue and migraines. I feel feverish & yet my skin is clammy cold. Within the past year my symptoms are worsening where now I get nausea & sometimes vomit. A super enhanced sense of smell. No bowel changes-they're normal. The symptoms usually start within minutes, but recently I have delayed symptoms that act up the next day. I can be sick for one day and sometimes 2-3 days. I do avoid eating chicken, broths. I am always careful reading ingredients, but sometimes a mystery ingredient slips in that may have used broth or chicken powder. i recently learned from watching the cooking channel that some chefs add chicken stock/broth to other meats to enhance flavor. Already having a limited menu at a restaurant, I have to ask the waiter to ask the chef to make sure no chicken stock is included in the meats or in potatoes, especially mashed.
No doctor can give an answer, just the same thing most of you have already heard.."avoid eating chicken". No,Really?? I believe its an underlying health problem. Living tired and sick depending on what I eat. I thought maybe I had celiacs disease. But my symptoms do not match up. All I could come up with is that the chicken triggers the histamines that dilates the blood vessels that cause the migraines. All the other symptoms, go figure. No migraines meds work. Benadryl sometimes takes some of edge. I just have to ride it out and wait to feel better.
I really wish there was an answer or treatment out there. I'm sure, just yet to be discovered. There's no name to this conditon. yet.

About 7 years ago i had one of the most violent episodes of vomitting and diarhea at the same time, that i have ever, ever experienced. So weak i could not sit or stand. Just collapsed onto the floor. Was just barely able to crawl off of my new carpet on to a tiled floor. i was the sickest i have ever been in my entire 70 years!  When 911 showed up they had to put me in the shower (holding me up) before they could put me on the guerney. A wonderful paramedic even put my robe and pjs in the washer and turned it on before we left. The second incident of this was about 3 yrs later. Same thing. This time i called my daughter first. She called 911. Later she told me there was an awful odor that she (a nurse) could not identify. My grandaughter was waiting at ER when i arrived and said i was as white as the sheet i was lying on and my eyes and lips were purple. Both times i had had General Tsoa's chicken from the deli the night before. i have had several incidents of it since then, but not quite as severe since i have been given promethezine to take when i feel like i might be getting sick. i can't wait too long. Otherwise it won't work. Episodes last about two hours. i have been eating a lot of chicken for the past 4 - 5 years but can't say if i had had it prior to all the incidents that are still ocurring. Haven't been keeping any logs or records. Yesterday i had a spicy chicken sandwich from McDonald's and then had chicken nuggets for dinner last night...frozen type from Costco. At 5:00 am i was sick again, although not anywhere nearly as badly as other times. i am still in denial...but maybe i shouldn't be...maybe should be getting to dr for an allergy test. Do ya' think???? i am now 77. Smarts have to happen sooner or later.

I think i might be allergic to chicken, but i am not 100%. I just had a beautiful baby girl 5 months ago and when i was pregnant i couldnt eat any meat except for burger. After I had her i was able to eat all meat. I started to get frequent food poisoning i thought but i couldnt figure out what was causeing it because me and my husband rarely eat out and i am an exellent cook if i do say so myself. I finally figured out the common factor in my recent frequent illnesses it only happens when i eat chicken. it doesnt matter what type of chicken even fast food does it. I get super light headed and get bad hot flashes and all clammy then i feel like i am going to vommit if i eat a little something like bread or have a glass of milk it prevents me from vommitting but then i get diharrea. I guess i should stop eating chicken huh

I am allergic to chicken and turkey and I also have some problems with eggs.  It is probably actually a food intolerance.  8-12 hours after eating it, I get stinky burps.  Then I get diarrhea; I will go to the bathroom 10-12 times in a few hours.  This lasts for three days in a row.  I will get so weak that I have to crawl from the bathroom to the bed.  I only vomited one time with it; that particular time I was so sick that the whites of my eyes turned yellow.

Brian,

I have the same exact allergy (chicken, turkey, fish, bananas, shell fish is OK)and symptoms as you only after a while of eating chicken (just chicken/turkey not the others) I am unable to talk unless I drink water that will surpress it (still not worth it). Have you had any luck in finding a cure? The one thing I did find is after taking fish oil on a regular basis I was able to eat fish, when I stopped taking it I could no longer eat fish. I am on the hunt for a chicken oil pill.

I'm AMAZED!! I've only met a few people in my life allergic to chicken but not eggs. I'm also allergic to turkey and fish, but I can eat shell fish. The fish allergy only arose after I turned 30. I really miss salmon and grouper! My reactions are severe chest pain...anaphalaxis, swollen throat, itchy...and it lasts for about an hour. I totally understand everyone's statements about looking at the menu and seeing what's left after you delete chicken and also asking about ingredients in soup and such. I don't mind being a carnivore...I LOVE my steak and pork, but I know it can't be the best for me. If I become allergic to those...well....I just leave a note! LOL

BOYCOTT the poison bird!! LOL

Has anyone found anything that helps with the symptoms? Anything? Anyone? Beuller?

Brian

My mom also used to be very allergic to chicken and turkey. She found a cure that works for her, but I hesitate to recommend it to people. She drinks 3 oz. of red wine once per day. She drinks only that much and no more and she never drinks at any other time. After drinking the red wine daily for six months, she can now eat chicken without getting sick.

I wonder if it would also work for lactose intolerance and celiac disease?

Helloooo fellow chicken haters!
Very happy I finally decided to google "chicken allergies" to see if i was the only one.
my deal, started when i was ~12. reaction - sore throat, sick stomach, spew, stomach pains, all over in 2-3 hours.
for the record, same reaction to all poultry, rabbit meat, gravox (gravy mix) and peas. and get varying strength uncomfortable stomach pain with avocado, bananas, tomatoes and some MSG laden chinese dishes.

NOTE: I discovered that eating ICE CREAM immediately after chicken/allergenic intake can STOP impending STOMACH PAIN and/or SPEW. might be because its soothes my throat (reaction 1), halting further reaction or something. it's not the dairy (i have tried milk and cream to no positive effect). but generally i have no idea why, it just works. also to note, my dad is a doctor and has no idea what's going on either. i'd be interested to hear if it works for others.

Godspeed

I am glad I found this site.. since an operation that removed a metal plate from my foot in 2004.. I am also having strange problems with bananas and chicken. It is interesting to read two other posts (or more) with the same phenomena. I still eat it..and go with the insomnia, and bizarre sweating spells while not being hot. The same health it offers (I live in the cold and short days of the north) stiull happens..yet this unique reaction EVERY time now.
