I ve just been prescribed this by my doctor too - been diagnosed with Fibro since 1996 and have tried everything I could get my hands on - with limited success . I am taking the Gabapentin with Naproxen & Co dydromol, Escitapram for the depression- so waiting to see if this helps with the chronic pain. I am lucky to have found a brilliant doctor who finally understands all the symptoms that come with Fibro, also have a condition named Facet Joint Disease in the spine so hoping the Gabapentin will ease the pain . Am told to take the Gabapentin at night as I sleep up to 2hrs then wake again with the insomnia - I will come back and let you know how it has helped. I have read that other Fibro sufferers have also been prescribed this too.
I think we have to try different regimen of meds until we find the one that works for us. Im still searching for the right one, fingers crossed Gabapentin will help ease the pain xx

Hi, there! I am suffering from fibromialgia and my brother and father too. I am the one in family that is indebted to fine any offered cure for our disease. I have heard that some people tried with gabapentin. Has anyone from you used gabapentin for fibromyalgia? What were your experiences?
I have been suffering from inner ear, left temple throbbing that goes down to my neck.Only on left side. I have been to Dr after Dr. One telling me one thing and others telling me something else. I have been on different meds which none have worked or eased the problem. This has been going on since April 2012 and I deal with this pain daily and working on top of it. I have been to ear, nose and throat Dr. which did blood work and CAT scan..which nothing showed up. Looking in my ear, he says is clear, when I know I feel something in there. I have been told TMJ, which I went to the dentist and I don't have and been to the ER twice. HELP!!! It feels like my body is shuting down and I just want to lay down.
As I was reading your post, I thought to myself "Did I write this a few months back?" Holy cow, I have the exact same pain and in the same areas, and I went to an ENT b/c I feel it in my ear and head and neck also. Are you taking anything for it now? Is anything working for you?

Hello - I was diagnosed in 1991 with fibromyalgia. Dare I say, I've tried a long list of treatments from Novocaine injections to sweat lodges (both worked well). Back then they didn't have the fancy designer drugs they have now. I lived in remission (rare symptoms) for 12 years but, about two years ago the symptoms began showing up repeatedly. Sadly,I ignored the symptoms and went on living a crazy, sleep deprived schedule. That landed me in the Dr's office with severe and chronic pain - the fibromyalgia had returned. The Dr. put me on Savella. I never could take a full dose without experiencing severe headaches, nausea, etc. Gradually, I the pain became debilitating - I was reminded of my first 8 years living with fibromylgia. The pain grew to be unmanageable. Needless to say, I became hopeless, helpless and despairing and I changed Dr's. My new Dr. introduced me to gabapentin (about four weeks ago). WOW. What a life changer. The results from the first dose were noticeable. Within four days I was seeing incredible results. I began sleeping through the night, woke up rested, increased energy in the morning and throughout the day, the pain has diminished significantly, my spirits are lifted, AND I feel happy and hopeful. I almost feel 'normal.' I have been prescribed 300mg 3x a day. Currently, I take 300mg in the morning and evening (2 doses). I can't imagine what I will feel like taking it 3 times a day. My Dr. tells me that she has great success prescribing gabapentin to her fibromyalgia patients. I've gotten so much done this past week. Why? Because I feel like living, again. It has been a prayer answered. Give it a try.

I know this post is old but wondering if you are still on it. I just started and also have had fibromyalgia since before it was fibromyalgia. I am having awful headaches, tremors, and this chesty cough. Wondering if you had any initial side effects and how long til they passed.

Just a thought. Are you having any other symptoms such as dizziness or ringing in the ears? You might find a doctor that can diagnose Menieres disease or check it out to see if any of it makes sense. Not every ENT can diagnose it.

Tramadol is -not- an opioid. Repeat, tramadol is NOT an opioid. Fibromyalgia often takes more than a decade to be properly diagnosed and then a few more years of trial and error to find some treatment that only partially works. Before that happens, because we are humans in horrific pain and having all serotonin production shut down in our bodies due to our illness, people self medicate. Treat the problem, help the patient, stop worrying about preconceived notions.

I have fibromyalgia and I have had relief from the gabapentin. I went off it suddenly and had a very negative reaction, so be careful about that.

Hi Morissa:
I have had fibromyalgia (fibro, for short) for 50 years. Back then everyone thought I was a whiner and complainer because I hurt so bad all of the time. I find cold and damp weather as well as very humid weather greatly increases my pain levels. I use gabapentin now and it does help. The dosage depends on each individual because we are all different and react in different ways. Work closely with your doctor to determine what is best for each of you, or if it will even work for all of you. I have my daily doses, but at night I take 300 - 600 mg along with a gravol pill. It helps me sleep. Don't do this without consulting your doctor. This drug has not made my fibro "all better", but it is the only one that has made my life liveable.
