I have always used marvelon and it worked great since the few months my pharmsists said i needed to take the generic brand apri because of benefits through work I have taken it and hate it. It made me gain weight and have terrible periods that are so heavy that I don't want to leave my home and do anything, I am sooooo tired that taking care of my 4 kids is hard. I feelo bloated and my sex drive is less, I want marelon and will find it somewhere... :'( >:(

I am so glad I found this forum! I had been on Marvelon for about 7 years and I absolutely love it. My pharmacist also told me that my provider would only cover me for the Apri and I have now been on it for two months. They ASSURED me it was the exact same thing as Marvelon...NOPE...it's THE WORST!
I am incredibly moody and get contstant headaches. I started getting bloated more often and often feel nautious.
I refuse to keep taking Apri and am going to see my doctor asap to get back my Marvelon!!!

I was recently prescribed Apri and started taking it 3 days ago. I've experienced some pretty intense nausea, but other than that I feel fine. I had to switch from Yaz because my period wasn't regulating, I had horrible acne, and unbelievable mood swings. I'm hoping that my nausea will pass so I am giving it more time.

However, everyone reading this forum must recognize that birth control works differently for every girl. When I first started taking Yaz, I found a ton of horror stories and got totally psyched out and I was a nervous wreck on my first day, and three months into Yaz I did not experience any of the horror symptoms I had read online. Now that I've switched to another birth control - I've found horror stories for it, as well. Do not let these stories scare you! Every birth control will have SOMEONE saying it is the worst birth control and existence and that they do not recommend it. What doesn't work for someone else may work for you.

I was prescribed marvelon and the pharmacy here use apri instead, so I have done extensive research on the net, books and talking to 15 different pharmicists and they all say the absolute only difference between the two is the filler and colouring used. The medical ingredients (horomones) are exactly the same. Not even a tiny bit of difference. So any adverse side effects would have to be an allergy to the type of colouring or filler used in the pills, because the horomones aren't any differen't.

I have been on Apri for almost two years now. At first everything was good, no side effects. This was the first birth control I had ever taken and I didn't know what to expect. What I have noticed is that over time my boobs have gotten bigger(which did not need to happen), I have gained weight even without an increase in my eating, and my sex drive has taken a nose dive. This is a huge deal especially since my husband recently had to start taking testosterone and his sex drive(which was never a problem) has increased.
I never had really bad cramps but in the last 6 months I have started cramping pretty bad. The majority of the weight gain has been in my lower stomach and theighs and I constantly feel bloated and have other stomach pains. The only reason that I am still taking it is that in a couple of months I plan to come of birth control completely.

Hello everyone, I need some help please. I'm from Canada, and was taking marvelon & had no problems. Does anyone know where I can get marvelon in the USA, as I just moved here, and 2 doctors said they've never heard of it, and a pharmacist said I couldn't get it here... Said apri& reclipsen are similar to marvelon, but I tried the reclipsen and had problems. I'm scared to try the apri& for fear of having more problems. Is marvelon sold in the us???

I am on my second month of apri and it has helped with my period alot. When I started apri I had many food cravings and a little nausea for about 2 weeks. I was a little bloated but I am a small person so it wasn't noticeable. I was afraid of the possible weight gain and other symptoms I had heard about. I have yet to gain weight or have any of the other serious side effects.
The pill has regulated my periods and helped with the pain considerably. I used to have horrible periods, extreme pain, vomiting, headaches, etc. I couldn't even walk the pain was so bad sometimes.
For some people this pill won't work because people have different bodies and different reactions to the same chemicals. If you are taking something that works for you try as hard as you can to stay on it, if apri doesn't work then stop taking it, don't wait for a doctors permission, you know what works for your body and what doesn't.

Agreed! I've been on Apri for about almost a year, I dont know why i stuck it out this long, but i should have stopped. I gained some weight, my mood swings were rediculous, and my sex drive is almost completely gone, it's ruining my relationship with my boyfriend of four years. I hate Apri, this is my last week on it and now i'm going to go on Try cyclyn, I hope this works out a little better then apri..

I have been on Apri for about 3 months now, and I don't really like the symptoms i've noticed since my first period on it in September.
Other than the fact that I have noticed my boobs going from a small 32C, to a big 32C, almost D. (which really only looks like a 34C, but it's fine for me!)

Anyways, here is what I've noticed since being on Apri:
- feel very depressed (especially 1-2 weeks before period, and during). Like I feel really anxious and stressed a lot, and I cry all the time for no reason. I feel terrible about myself, and I was not like this at all when I was on Yaz last year....
- Feel exhausted when on period, and cramps are still terrible! (even being on Naproxen pain killers too!:-( )
- Back/joint pain and headaches week before & during periods are still bad
- Noticed dark-ish patch on skin by neck for the first month, but it has disappeared
- Feel exhausted (esp. during period) but cannot fall asleep until anywhere between 2 and 5am! (and I'm in University and have classes and exams right now, so this sucks!)
- My boobs grow almost a full cup size on my period, which causes significant pain and discomfort. I have to wear softer, bigger cupped bras on my period. It's really irritating.

My symptoms are very similar to PMDD, which is a severe form of PMS. I might talk to my doctor about this actually, because if it's the pill causing it, I would like to switch brands. If not, I would like medication to help this cause it really bothers me. It just seems like too much of a coincidence that these symptoms all happened shortly after starting on Apri.

WOULD NOT RECCOMMEND THIS BRAND OF PILL.
NO WAY.

Yeah no, I don't really like Apri, I was on it before now i realised that my sever depression, mood swings and stuff were side effects from it. I went off and started feeling fine (though life situations had changed) now things are still good but i'm getting mood swings, i'm always exausted my apittite has droped, and I get sad about stuff waaaay too easly. Also i've been breaking out and now thanks to this thread i have an explination for my random 10 pound gain.

Some people have entirely reversed thoughts but not me :-(

I recently switched over to apri, only because it was cheaper than the marvelon. the pharmacist assured me that it was the same thing just the generic form of marvelon. Since I have been taking it I have been waking up everynight in a cold sweat. so bad that I am drenched. Went back to the pharmacist and they said they have never heard of a side effect like that. Has anyone else had this happening?? I also have been feeling very depressed lately and my complextion has gotten worse. I thought I might have SAD (seasonal affective disorder), but I noticed I have been feeling this way since taking apri. I have a fantastic boyfriend and have no reason to be feeling depressed, moody and irritable!

Hi I was on mArvelon and was switched to Apri because the pharmasists siad that my work benifits only cover Apri. I have noticed over the 1.5 years a significant change from when I was on Marvelon. I have not changed my diet or exercise and have been watching even more diligent after gaining 15 lbs and bigger boobs ( I had a reduction so dont need the boobs). Went for my physical the other day and my doctor said that quite a few people who she has seen has the issue of weight gain after being swiched from Marvelon to Apri. She wrote me a new Rx and stated no substituitions also a card from Marvelon that they pay the diffrence in cost between Apri and Marvelon to the health coverage company or pharmasists. Just waiting right now to switch back to my Marvelon but it is on back order hopefully it will be in soon.

I feel so reassured after reading these posts! I had been on Marvelon for 12 years before my pharmacy switched me over to Apri 5 months ago. I have absolutely hated the Apri!! Over the past 5 months I have developed facial acne, headaches, night sweats, spotting, slight weight gain (without any change in diet but an increase in exercise), and mild depression. I had never experienced ANY of those things prior to Apri. I feel tired, cranky, and feel like I can't make decisions about my future. I have also developed a swollen vein in my left temple, and a very noticeable bright red vein in my left eye. People have even asked me, "What's up with your eye?" After reading these posts, I am now fully convinced (was only partially before) that all of these changes are due to the Apri. I called my pharmacy yesterday and requested to be switched back to Marvelon. I can't wait until Sunday so I can start back up on it again. I know the two pills contain the same doses of hormones, but something has to be different about them, because I have had a terrible time with the Apri and never had a single issue with the Marvelon. Thank goodness I've figured it out and can now get back to a normal life!

I have had THE worst experience being on Apri. I am depressed. I cry all the time over everything. I have stuck to a strick 1200 calorie a day diet and I have gained 20 pounds. I have no sex drive or desire and have the worst abdominal cramps at times. I am EXTREMELY gassy. It is awful. I would not recommend this pill to anyone.
