My son is suffering from juvenile form of rheumatoid arthritis. His doctor prescribed him with Azulfidine EN-tabs, formulation of sulfasalazine. I wanted to be completely sure about this medication before I give them to my son. Are Azulfidine EN-tabs, formulation of sulfasalazine, approved by the FDA for treating children? Did you have any personal experience with this medication?
According to my knowledge, FDA approved, in August 2000 Azulfidine EN-tabs for use in treatment of juvenile form of rheumatoid arthritis. This was announced as new indication for this medication. Azulfidine EN-tabs are the only form of sulfasalazine approved by FDA for treating arthritis, both, juvenile or in adults. This drug is made as enteric-coated formulation in order to prevent stomach side effects.
