My dad has just been told hes got a 100% blocked femoral artery and narrowing of the other arterys in his right leg,he has no pulses in this leg either. The consultant has told us he cant operate as my dad is 71 and in ill health anyway and hes never survive the operation. So we have been told theres nothing they can do and we have to sit and wait until the leg gets gangrene.how long is it likely to take for this to set in, and then how long will it take to cause his death. His foot and lover leg is already a dark red colour as are his toes, the skin is very dry and like tissue paper and hes got an ulcer formed on his toes as well as very thick toenails in which he keeps getting athletes foot, his leg has lost most of the hair also. We know its a bad situation but we just need help finding how long we have left with him roughly. anyone is free to post but if you do hold a medical position please can you state that fact.
yours hopefully

I'm sorry, but you father's condition is grave.  If the situation is inoperable, then he will pass away soon, likely within hours to a few days. I hope that he can be made comfortable, and my condolences to you and your family.

Upon consideration, there may be some collateral circulation down into the leg that will allow some degree of perfusion.  With diligent care, he may last for an indefinable period of time.  Perhaps it's time to have a family conference with your father, to determine his wishes and so that everybody has a clear understanding of the situation and how things will likely proceed.

I am in a very similar situation. My father in law has 100% blockage. He is 70. Diabetic. Recent stroke. Paralyzed on left side. Pancreatitis. Overall bad health.
How have things turned out with your father Clare?
