I had total hysterectomy, appendectomy, oopherectomy (uterus, cervix, tubes & ovaries and appendix) through belly wall all at the same time last year and about 3 months after healing I had lower back pain and I decided to go to an orthopedic surgeon because I have previously had shots of cortisone for lower back and thought it was just becoming inflamed again so I must need another shot. He sent me to a physical therapist saying the pain in back is being caused by the lack of muscle strength in my abdomin due to the surgery. I can honestly say, I didn't continue with the surgery because it really wasn't doing anything but causing more muscle pain.
But now 11 months afterwards I have an incisional hernia and on occassion when I get up from laying or sitting the muscles along my spine at lower rib area literally feel like someone is cutting me with a huge dull knife! I usually push my fist into the area to try and stop the pain but the only way to stop it is to sit back down at which point I have immediate relief. If when I get up again I feel pain I will sit down again and continue until I can actually stand without any pain. (usually only takes 2 to 3 times before pain is gone.)
I'm apprehensive about how my abdomen will feel after the hernia surgery now wondering what will hurt afterwards. The doc is going to do it by lap with a possible open surgery but when I speak to some men who have had mesh stiched over their hernias, they still have pain (dr says it's because the tissues haven't totally grown over the mesh yet) 3 months later. My dr told me I would be back to work in 2 weeks. I'm definately a little concerned about what's gonna happen.
Anyway, here's to all of us who are trudging through the bs of the docs and these back pains. Please God let us find peace and NO PAIN!:~) %-)

Ladies, You all need to have your back checked for a herniated disk. Being held in a unnatural position for so long may have herniated a disc. It happened to me and I developed CES as the top poster mentioned. I now am permanently disabled at 29 yo. The symptoms started in the hospital after my Abdonimal Hysterectomy.

I was only 28 when my doctor requested I have a partial hysterectomy. I had my uterus removed and felt great. I even lost 40 lbs. Then I started having more complications with my ovaries and he finally gave me a complete hysterectomy. The last surgery was 2005. About 2 1/2 weeks ago I started having SEVERE lower back pain that has now radiated into my abdomen. I can't bend over, I can't cough or sneeze without screaming the pain is so bad. Today is the first time the pain is in my abdomen and I actually feel like I have my ovaries back. The doctor can't see me until Friday but I am scared because I have never felt anything like this before.

I take a Calcium and Vitamin D tablet every single day. I have researched what it could be, but am so confused. Has anyone had back pain after having a hysterectomy many years ago?

Thanks

I had an TVH  (Total Vaginal Hysterectomy) 2 days ago and when I woke up from the anesthesia my lower back was killing me.  It felt as if I pulled the muscles in my lower back, as I have done before and know what it feels like.  I too wonder what kind of position my body was in during the procedure.  While in the hospital I only found comfort sleeping on my sides or stomach.  Since I am home, however, it doesn't really matter how I lay.  Having a full bladder makes it worse.  I am concerned of having an kidney infection because the pain is on both sides of my lower back where the kidneys lie.  I drink plenty water and am urinating well with no pain or burning.  It's a sunday and am going crazy wondering what is going on and can't wait until the doctors ofc opens in the morning.

Hi Simone
I know that it has been over a year since you last posted. I hope that everything went okay for you. I'd like to know how long your back pain lasted and on a scale of 1 - 10 what would you rate it? I'm just curious. Hope all is well now.

I read on the internet that the uterus sits between the bladder and the rectum. I has many connective tissues for supporting a growing baby or even multiple births. When the doctors remove the uterus and other female organs, it seems like a major support for the pelvis, hips and lower back is missing & problems like back pain would be likely. I read that the lowest ribs move toward the hip bone and women bend over when they walk. I had a hysterectomy & I have lower back pain, hip pain and I walk bent over because of back pain. I have no feeling in the sexual area and I am incontinent. No one told me how awful the hysterectomy was going to be. I wish I had died during the operation.

Now I have a mass in my lower right leg and one in my left arm.  just had my ct scan already for my leg. Since i had my hysterectomy i seem to have double the problems:(

I just had a vaginal hysterectomy on feb 21 and just recent recently started having excruciating lower back pain and mostly left lower ab pain. What can you do for this? I've also had severe insomnia and literally haven't slept in three nights now. Ibuprofen does nothing. I hate to ask my doc for more pain meds but I can't keep hurting like this. You'd think the docs would figure out a different procedure that wouldn't put us women in such pain after what we thought was a good idea to have the dang hysterectomy in the first place. I don't know which is worth, the pain from the endimetriosis leading to the hysterectomy or this pain now. Any suggestions!
