Hi Guest,
I was just browsing when I came across your post. I am so sorry to hear about your lingering pain from your c-section to your hysterectomy sites, I couldn't imagine. I went through an emergency c-section just over 2.5 years ago with my OB doctor (did the c-section) and healed wonderfully, at 3 weeks I went on a vacation to show our daughter off to our family without any difficulties or pain. Last year, just over a year ago today, I went through my hysterectomy with my same OB/GYN doctor and again, everything went smoothly except for I had my first ever UTI while healing and had to go on a month of antibiotics, strange I know but nothing since.
I just had a major bunion surgery done almost 2 months ago and this is taking way longer than those 2 to heal. It has actually taken my body all this time from having my daughter to finally lose some weight. What I mean is, I had an extra 20 or so pounds to lose and I thought OK I am having surgery and it is 6 weeks of no weightbearing on my foot and have to lie all the time to elevate, what will I do to not gain weight. I cut my caloric intake down to at least half or more and it's worked! My God, I've lost at least 10 - 15 pounds, I don't have a scale. I can't believe it.
Anyways, that was really off topic, wow. Did they find a bunch of scar tissue, or have they done a exploratory to see if that is what's going on? If not, they should. It is probably scar tissue that is causing all this pain, at least that is what I found from the hystersister website/forum. Do you use that forum to talk to the women there with the possible same experience as you?
Well, somehow I hope this helped and good luck.

I had a vag hysterectomy in 1998. Immediately after I began having the worst back pain ever. After many many drs injections and procedures. Found a pain spec who does pro-lo injections. Finally getting relief after 15 yrs! And YES it is from the hysterectomy!!!! My ligaments were traumatized causing severe back again. I'm getting off pain pills and can finally sit more. Standing up or laying down Lessened the pain. Can't do that forever :-( pro-lo has been around for 70 yrs. it is available everywhere, just have to find a dr who does them. Insurance won't cover this procedure. It is 300 per visit. I go monthly. He will do Prp next visit which involves taking my blood and adding it to the solution he uses for pro-lo. This will cost 600, but should be my last visit. Hope this helps someone!!

I also had the DaVinci Robitic hysterectomy on 12-15-11. Ever since I also have sever debilitating pain in mid back all the way down to my knees. I can not move constant pain , very uncomfortable and spasm. I also never had this kind of pain in my back before surgery. I cry a lot because it hurts so bad . At first my doctor thought the pain was from a cyst but that was not the case. I have had mri 's and X-rays. And no one can tell me what this is or how to fix it. I am currently having an episode and have been in been for 2 weeks now. Last week my husband was trying to help me to the car to go to the er and my knees buckled and i fell to the floor. He had to call an ambulance to get my there. Any help would be much appreciated. I just can't take this anymore. All the doctors do is give me pain meds and muscle relaxer. I am not one who likes taking pills at all but I am completely at a lost.

Subject: Back Pain post Hysterectomy.
It is very common for patients to complain of back pain after removal of uterus and several other distressing things that creep in which were earlier not present. It is surprising that many doctors think back pain is not associated with the surgery which in reality is in no. of cases if Rheumatologic, Spinal, Musculoskeletal causes are excluded. The cause of back pain is usually referred pain from Uterosacral ligaments ( one of the many ligaments that supports the uterus in the body). Uterosacral ligaments which are resected during the surgery are richly innervated by numerous nerve fibres and their entrapment during the procedure, traction and counter- traction of the nerves and ligaments, stress on the Fascia of the pelvic organs and disruption of the normal anatomy all are causes of pain in the back after the surgery. The pain is referred through nerves termed Sacral plexus and the pain is located near sacrum in the centre or on one side, worse after standing for longer periods or after exertion. Also associated are imbalance in hormones like Estrogen -Progesterone leading to flushes, Osteoporosis causing bone pains, mood swings, disturbed sleep, vaginal dryness etc.
Women undergoing hysterectomy should discuss in detail with their doctor the possible effects of surgery on their health and personality, and also weigh the merits of the procedure indicated for specific Gynaecologic disease.
Gabapentin, Pregabalin, Tryptomer for pain alleviation, HRT for hormonal imbalance and Calcium supplements ( after consulting your Doctor) and Positive attitude all help in living a healthier and symptom free life
Hope this will help you all. Wish you all a happy and healthy beautiful life.

I had a robot hysterectomy in 2012 and still have chronic back pain. I had disc replacement in 2012 due to the surgery. I have exausted all avenues of non method surgery. My doc now want to fuse my lower back L2-3 L3-4 L4-5 and L5 s1. First he would like to try a pain stimulator in my back to help the pain. I have pain everyday and take pain medswhich never have before. This has change my whole life totally.

Any correlation with slower moving bowels due to hormone replacements therefore causing intestines to enlarge and put pressure on spinal nerves?

in 2011 I had a hysterectomy, but the doctor left my one ovary. Every since the surgery I developed sciatica, and my lower back is always in pain. I take all kind or pain relievers but it does not work often. I had x-rays and mri taken but the physicians states it sciatica. my sister tell me all the time she thinks that my severe back pain is caused by the hysterectomy I had.

I had a complete hysterectomy in 2009 and have had back pain ever since. The doctor who performed the surgery said that it was likely due to being "moved wrong" on the table. I am in the military and for the first 3 years I was able to get to a point where I could do my deisk job and even work out on an eliptical if I was careful. Then I was assigned to a boat. 3 years of being underway in rough water put paid to my back. I can not sit or stand for great lengths of time without pain. 10 minutes of walking in a store and I am hobbling and looking for a seat. I have gained 40 pounds in the last year (which has caused problems in and of itself). I have been trying to find a way to fix this for so long, I don't know what to do. My doctor is recommending shots of cortizone in my back to help the pain but, I am nervous about it. There is nothing wrong with my spine (doc says it looks like a 20yr olds and I am 44) so it is all muscles. I am about ready to retire from the military but, my husband wants me to have them "fix me" before I leave. I have been looking at all of your responses and I'm thinking they can't "fix me" like he wants. Anyone got any other suggestions. If not, I'm just releived to know I am not alone. Good luck all.

I'm 44 years old and approaching my fourth week post-total hysterectomy. My left ovary, uterus, and cervix are removed due to cyst in my ovary and was sticking to my back bone; menorrhagia; and endometriosis. I lost lots of blood before surgery due to abnormally heavy non-stop bleeding everyday for almost 2 years. My hemoglobin dropped already before surgery and after surgery, so I was given blood transfusion before going home 4 days after surgery. My first week was really with a lot of discomfort... shortness of breath, nausea, weakness, pain, difficulty laying down and getting up, no appetite, pain urinating, bloating, tummy discomfort, leg cramps, constipation, dizziness, hot flushes, irritation, and back pain. I started walking around the house and short distance outside my house but I end up with more pain and discomfort but was slowly getting rid gas inside me. Second week riding inside a car was a wrong decision and I'm walking longer distance but ends up with severe pain after. Sleeping is still a big problem with legs getting cramps and I still get pain urinating. I am not comfortable, back pain getting worse and I couldn't sleep on my side due to pain. I only take pain reliever whenever I can't tolerate pain. Sitting down wasn't easy and I still have mild bleeding. I am slowly getting my appetite back with no more nausea or dizzy spell. shortness of breath and pain remains. My third week was a lot better. I walk outside everyday but sometimes I could only walk a very short distance and ends up with abdominal pain after. Tried to lay on my side but still uncomfortable and my back pain getting worse. My appetite is back and eating normally. I'm less bloated, still with big tummy, urinating still with pain, and I can wash glasses and silverwares. I'm still trying to make my back straight, and coughing and sneezing is not easy. My family sometimes makes me laugh and I end up crying due to pain and fear that my wound inside me will open. I'm going to my fourth week now. My back is still with pain and very stiff. Sleeping is still a big issue and still giving me discomfort each time I sleep. I can't sleep well but I started lying on my side for two days now. My best pal is my abdominal binder. Next week will be my first doctor's appointment after surgery. I wan't to know if this back pain is normal. Overall, I think I am coping well now. No signs of infection so far. I don't overdo walking now, because I found it difficult to recover from pain. I don't take my tylenol #3 or my Diclofenac 50mg during my second week but only take regular 325 mg tylenol when pain arises. But I found my healing is very slow.
