I have recently been rediagnosed with sacroiliac joint dysfunction, most likely caused or made worse by my vaginal hysterectomy. Even with injections & pain medications, the pain is sometimes unbearable.

Were you able to find relief? If so how long did it take?
I too had a hysterectomy two weeks ago. When I woke in recovery room I was complaint of back pain! When I stood up I almost fell realizing my leg was numb from knee to toe! I've never felt such horrific pain! Waiting for an MRI!

How were you diagnosed with CES. I am 12 weeks post op and the pain is unbearable. I have history of back pain flare ups about every 6 years and it has never been anything like this at all... Pleas e advise of what tests have to be done to determine the CES... thank you so much.

I had my vaginal hysterectomy 26 years ago. Immediately after the surgery I had excruciating lower back pain. The dr couldn't understand why and since then my back has never been the same. The burning is unbearable at times. Standing and sitting for a 1/2 hr is the most I can do. Never did I have back issues prior to this surgery. What have the doctors missed? I can't this too much longer.

I continue to have low back pain, still in my tail bone area. On a scale of 1-10 My pain is at the moment a 9. 10 for me is in tears and I'm almost there tonight. My husband helps me by pressing his knee into my sacral area with a few minutes of relief and then back to pain again. I haven't been to have an xray or MRI...not taking anything for pain, but getting tired of enduring it.

Let me apoligize in advance for reviving a dead thread. I have continued to get notifications for this thread for 6 years.
Cauda Equina Syndrome can only be diagnosed with a MRI/CT scan. It is a lot more than back pain though. a Imaging study is able to confirm it by lack of disc signal on the imaging studies. A loss of disc signal intensity combined with Redflag symptoms is what causes a diagnosis. Back Pain is not considered a symptom. Since the Cuada Equina nerves control your Bowel, Bladder , and Sexual organs along with balance and some of your walking muscles. Those are what are affected.
Here are the redflag symptoms.
**** Red Flags****
Patients with back pain should be aware of the following "red flag" symptoms that may indicate CES:
Severe low back pain
Motor weakness, sensory loss, or pain in one, or more commonly both legs
Saddle anesthesia (unable to feel anything in the body areas that sit on a saddle)
Recent onset of bladder dysfunction (such as urinary retention or incontinence)
Recent onset of bowel incontinence
Sensory abnormalities in the bladder or rectum
Recent onset of sexual dysfunction
A loss of reflexes in the extremities
Medical history implications:
Recent violent injury to the back
Recent lumbar spine surgery
A history of cancer
Recent severe infection
What this all leads to is partial paralysis with loss of bowel and bladder control and erectile dysfunction for the men, and complete loss of sensation for the women, Your saddle area or your butt goes completely numb and you lose enough sensation in the legs you will have weakness, loss of reflexes and balance and difficulty walking. The only cure is emergency surgery to clear the obstruction and pressure from the spine.
Anyone still having back pain after their surgeries should have their spine checked. Its possible you herniated a disc. But unless you have the above symptoms , you are probably safe from CES. CES is extremely rare thankfully. But for those of us affected by it. It has been devastating.

I had my hysterectomy 19/6/17 only 6 weeks now and I cry every day with my lower back pain. I had the spinal block and it has affected a nerve down my leg and foot. even if a feather touched my back the pain is unreal. I'm still bleeding heavy with clots but doctor at my follow up said I would be fine soon and put me on antibiotics but I think I need to go back as I've got lower abdominal pain constantly if I knew before how I would feel I think I would of had second thoughts of having it done.
