Thermachoice III is the best Device for Endometrial Ablations. I am a practicing OBGYN and can tell you that just because the procedure last a little longer than Novasure, it's really all about the results afterwards. taryn54 explained a common occurance with Novasure, which is also called Asherman's Syndrome. This occurs when adhesions start to form, due to the high level of charing that takes place during the Novasure Procedure. Secondly, the goal of an Ablation is to reduce Heavy periods or get you all back to Umenorrea or Normal Bleeding. If Amenorrea, no Period, occurs, than consider yourself one of the lucky 37% of folks that were able to achieve that with Thermachoice III. The results are about the same for Novasure..36%.
Lastly, the main reason I prefer to use Thermachoice is becasue of 3 main things
1. Safer - Generator has a shut off protocal in case something happens during the procedure
2. Little or no Dialation - Less Pain
3. Total Coverage - It will treat more patients.
Hope this helps!

I too am a practicing gynecologist and completely disagree with the previous post. First and foremost 70% of all ablations that are performed in the US are with Novasure with the next most popular choice being Thermachoice at 10%. Physicians wouldn't use a product this much if they received inferior results as compared to another product. As a long time user of both products there are more failures with TC and less patients have no bleeding at all as compared to NS. Equally more patients will experience severe cramping after their procedure due to the distention of the uterus with the TC procedure. Just my experience....good luck

I really wanted to post a reply here since I have had both Novasure and Thermachoice. I am a 37 year old with 2 children and had excessive bleeding and heavy periods for many years. In 2007 I had Novasure done in my doctors office. It went very well. Minimal cramping that day was relieved with Motrin. I think I took one Vicodin. I was back to normal 1-2 days later with no problems. But....my periods continued although they were much lighter. Went from 8 -9 days of bleeding to 3-5. So I suppose it helped. The bleeding had increased again recently so I opted to repeat the Novasure at my gynos suggestion. I had this done 11/20/09. She got in there and stated the scar tissue was too thick for Novasure to penetrate so she went to her "back up plan" (Thermachoice). I had never heard of it.
The pain was excrutiating. I went home and took 6 vicodin within 3 hours. The pain was so severe and bleeding so bad my husband called my doctor. She told him to take me to the hospital. I got an IV with LOTS of Morphine and Turidol (sp?). They also gave me Percoset. I was in so much pain it was unbearable. Now 12 days post procedure I am still "weeping" a pinkish clear fluid very heavily. I go through 6-7 maxi pads a day. They say this is normal for the healing of the burn in the uterus. I do not yet know if I am satisfied. We'll see if my periods are gone soon I guess. I just wish someone had told me how severe the pain would be. In my opinion it should be an in hospital procedure.

Wowsers. I am having the Novasure procedure done 12/18/09 early morning. I will be sure to ask about the scar tissue issue and the uterus sticking to itself, etc. I still believe this is the best procedure for me personally and agree that probably both methods are good for different cases. Thanks for all the info. Yikes.

I am 38, have 3 children and I had the Thermachoice procedure on 12/21/09. So far, my experience has been great. I had the procedure at the hospital due to the doctor doing a d&c and tubal at the same time as the ablation. When I left the hospital, I was still very sleepy from the anesthesia, but i can remember severe cramping. I don't like to take pain pills for anything, but I was hurting, so i took a 1/2 of whatever they gave me (i think it was called darvocet). I was in and out of it most of the evening, but later in the evening, the pain was wearing off, the anesthesia was finally wearing off and I was up cleaning the kitchen and moving around....slowly, but still moving around. Due to the tubal, my belly was tender, but if it hadn't been for that, I would have been fine the next day. It's been two weeks today and I still am needing to wear a panty liner due to the discharge, but that is it. The discharge is very minimal. I am hoping for no periods, but will be tickled to death with a 3-4 day light period.

if you had to do it over when you go under general anethsia? or just go with the feel no pain meds & be awake? I'm looking at the thermachoice, went in for my annual today & told her about my heavy periods & she told me about thermachoice....sounds WONDERFUL! i'm a little worried about the pain & just trying to decide if this is right for me. Thanks!

I am a 36 year old mom of 2 whose family is complete. In fact, my tubes were tied after my last child. I visited my GYN yesterday and he recommended the Thermachoice Balloon Therapy treatment. I have heavy periods and do not want a hysterectomy. Does anyone know anything about the post-albation tubal sterilization syndrome?

I am 43 years old and had the Novasure procedure done August 2009. I am absolutely thrilled with the results. I have not had a period since, also I no longer suffer from PMS, tender breasts, bloating and all the other unpleasantries that went along with my monthly period.
I was lucky enough to have a doctor extremely skilled in the Novasure procedure. I had a tubal performed about 5 years ago, so that was already taken care of. My doctor performed a D & C the same time as the Novasure. I did have very bad cramping for about 5 hours after the procedure but was told it was more than likely caused by the D & C. I was out and about the next day doing errands but would advise taking the next day or two off from work because I did seem to tire a bit more easily. That said, it was one of the best things I've ever done.
My best friend is having a Thermachoice ablation done next month along with a tubal ( she has a different doctor than I do). I do hope her procedure is as successful as the Novasure.

o.O Some of you guys scare the heck out of me. I guess thats all good. I am hoping for the best with the Thermochoice procedure on 1/26/2010 along with a D&C. Big deal if there is cramping, I have been dealing with that for years with my heavy multiple periods every month. The best thing I see about this deal is we keep everything and "no more periods" or at least reduced periods. Wow that will be a blessing. Some of you mentioned the "discharge" and I can only hope that stops after a while. I will try to come back and post the results next week.

I had the thermachoice procedure done on 12-12-09 and I still have watery, stinky, sometimes bloody discharge. I am not sure if I have a period. I have messed up countless number of underwear. I made an appt. with my obgyn today for a f/u appt. because I seriously think I have an infection. The smell is horrific.
After my procedure, I laid in the bed for 8 hours rocking from the excruciating pain. I was in so much pain that I couldn't eat or drink anything. I over took the pain meds and the 800mg ibuprofen that wa prescribed to me.
During the procedure, I was in so much pain. I was sweating like I had run a marathon. I will never have this procedure done again.

I am having the endometrial ablation and essure sterilization procedures Monday. I am having it done under general anesthesia at the hospital so I am hoping I don't have a problem. I have a high tolerance to pain so not to worried about after. I am hoping that this works and I have no more periods as they have been awful awful with my last one lasting 5 weeks! of heavy heavy bleeding. I think my Dr. is using the thermachoice as it is the only one approved of with the Essure.

I had a D & C, hystescope, and thermachoice on 2/12/10....My periods were so out of hand..I actually had a period for 2 MONTHS..We are not talking light, it was heavy all the way. I ended up getting anemic due to it and had to have 2 units of blood 2 weeks before the procedure got scheduled. So I am now 2 weeks out after the procedures, I still have this watery discharge. I had cramping for a day or 2 just kept taking the pain meds and resting. I am not sure but believe I have a UTI now. Not sure if it is even related but my back hurts. So I am going to the dr. I am ok with this but I want to be done with this discharge. Of course it is way better than the periods I was having. I am happy so far with this procedure that was done, but I am still early in recovering to tell how it is going to work out. Will let you know on down the road. All went well for procedure it was outpatient and I went home same day.

I had Essure and Novasure procedure Monday as outpatient in hospital. All went great. I was very pleased. Pain was not bad afterwards, controlled with Percocet. Rested most of the following day today I feel great and was back at work. Very small amount of bleeding/discharge. I am hoping to have no more periods and have permenant sterilization. Dr said she will check in 3 months with the dye to make sure fallopian tubes have scared over and are blocked. No problems here.
