Ok so ive been on yazmin for about 4 months and ever since then i have not been able to lose weight ive been trying everything. its almost impossible. i havent gained any weight from them but i havent lost any either. im thinking about switching ive been hearing good things about the patch and yaz. i know one thing though i will not be getting the shot ive heard that it makes u gain sooooo much.
You've GOT to be kidding me. I never had problems maintaining my weight and in 3 months on NuvaRing I put on 8 pounds, and NOW I CAN'T LOSE IT. It's been a YEAR and I still haven't changed an ounce despite exercising and eating regimens. These companies are just trying to cover their butts. Jerks.
There's no way this is true! I started Birth Control less than one year ago... started out weighing about 128 or 130...now I'm up OVER 150! I do everything the same... actually last year I didn't exercise nearly as much as I do now and I've gained over 20 lbs. I have nothing else that can be attributed to the weight gain. I have had my doctor change my birth control three times, even though she just laughs and says the birth control cannot cause my weight gain. I just switched to a low level one, so hopefully that can help a bit. BIRTH CONTROL CAN MAKE YOU GAIN WEIGHT. It may not, but it sure can.
I have been on birth control twice in my life, and both times I put on 10 pounds. I started taking Junel about 7 months ago, and am up 6 lbs since then. It's so frustrating because my gynecologist keeps telling me "the pill does not cause weight gain. Your eating habits must have changed." Sadly, she is wrong. I wish she were right, but my eating habits have been the same pretty much my whole life. And here's the funny part. I have always been able to eat what I want, when I want, without significant weight gain. Hot fudge sundaes before bed 4x a week? No problem. Pizza and pasta for dinner almost every night? No problem. Seriously, I'm Italian-American and my grandfather was constantly putting food on my plate, telling me I was too skinny. Maybe he should have laced my lasagna with birth control pills, because they sure pack on the pounds fast! It's so frustrating because I don't want to go off of them (it's my favorite form of birth control, given the convenience and low risk to my health, aside from weight gain) but I HATE not looking the same, and not fitting into my clothes correctly.
Perhaps part of it's ability to prevent pregnancy is to make you so fat that no one wants to have sex with you. >:(

i agree with most of you on here. i was 107 when i started the pill and now i am currently at 130, which i know doesnt sound too terrible but im only 4'10'' and i dont have much room for it, lol. i can eat healthy and excercise but it doesnt do much good. the only way i lost a few pounds was not eating for for three days cause i was sick and then not eating much the rest of one week but i am a girl who likes her food healthy and not and i do not wish to starve myself:] its not the lifestyle really, i eat a good normal diet and i do the same things i did when i was 107 but i still gained so can someone explain that? i did my research and they say to not eat salt: no garlic salt, no hamburger helper! no salt helps with the WATER RETENTION. doesnt sound too hard and its not really but it still does not make you shed the pounds as if you were off the pill entirely. my friend and i are on yaz and she stopped taking it to lose weight for a wedding and she lost all fifteen of the pounds she gained in a month. lost all that weight in one month;]
for those of you wanting to try YAZ, i dont advise it. it was all good at first but then it just went downhill. it makes you gain the weight just like any other birth control just not as much. i only gained 10 pounds on it but there are other things that go wrong... ive been on it for a year and i have abdomenal pain almost all the time im very moody but try to hide it, im not one to complain, but recently i have been getting an off and on tingling in my arm and my headaches are worsening. my fiance is telling me to go to my doctor and i think he is right. oh, and yaz and yasmin are the same thing... look it up.
sooo i will go to the doctor and either change to a hopefully better birth control or get off the birth control we will see what happens but even before going i can tell you i will lose the weight because ive done it before.

Here is my experience, in short: Was taking generic Ortho-tri-Cyclyn - had really moody, angry PMS. Switched to yaz - noticed less fluid retention and moodiness, actually could fit into my skinny jeans. Yaz is expensive so doc. switched me to yasmin - now more fluid retention and can't wear any of the pants I used to wear/gained a size or two. I have been exercising MORE and eating healthier since the switch. So I say it's the amount of estrogen (higher makes you retain more water) and maybe potassium levels.
I think there is something going on between the doctors and the drug making companies!!!!!!! I took BC pills for 2 weeks and I've gained so much weight that my workmates are asking if I'm pregnant. I can tell you one thing, I'm throwing all them pills away today!!!! I just can't stand it any more, all my clothes don't fit, I look horrible and all this for a few days of comfort (as in no periods). I want all the women out there to know that BC pills will make you FAT no matter what the doctor says.
I have been on loestrin 24Fe and a generic version of it for the past 3 years. I've been working out for the past 4 months at least 4-5 times a week, doing bootcamps, running (im up to 5 miles now) and I went on weight watchers and still wasn't even loosing a single pound. I was so frustrated, finally i read some stuff on birth control and decided to go off of it 2 weeks ago. I've already lost 5 pounts. It was as if the birth control pills were holding on to the fat and no matter what I did, they wouldnt let go. Aweful! As much as i want to be on the pill, i would much rather loose weight then be all depressed and fat.
I naturally have a very high metabolism and am usually able to eat what I want (exercise with that of course) and I never gain weight. However, since being on the pill? I have put on 5 pounds (which may not sound a lot but I feel uncomfortable). Along with this I am eating considerably less and exercising more. How is this fair? The guy doesn't go through this and he's the one that has the problem with condoms in the first place! I actually prefer them after my bad experiance with the pill!
hello, im 22 from the UK . i have been on the implant (implanon) for 3 years and i have gain over 4 stone during this time. i had the implant removed for a short time and lost naturally half a stone without dieting. the implant makes me feel hungry all the time and i rarely have a feeling of fullness, even though i watch what i eat and am kept active. the aspect of the implant i enjoy is the safety from pregnancy it gives me and my partner apart from that i dont enjoy it , i dont like having something in my arm i dont like the side effects such as heachaches and weight gain which i have suffered with. i am debating getting it out and trying something else , i need to loose this weight im really not happy.
well i had an unprotected sex n i will take a birth control pill fr the first time in my life
does one pill will make me gain weight
I find this issue very conflicting, birth control effects hormones and hormonal balance, your whole body functions because of hormones and organs like your pancreas and the thyroid gland are key in hormone regulation. In the fine print of the mirena inlet it reads that the product can affect glucose tolerance, even though you have never had issues with high glucose levels or have a history of diabetes this fluctuation can cause weight gain; if not by the glucose being turned into glycogen and being stored excessively then by that putting strain on the liver, kidneys, thyroid, lymph system which in turn makes you feel less than healthy. With the body being out of balance then we are more subjective to side effects like increased appetite, water retention, migraines and so forth. So even though the initial cause is not from the birth control hormones in the body but the reactions that some people maybe more sensitive to than others (some people just pass excessive glucose or glycogen through urine).
It makes me think that women need to see an endocrinologist before being put on ANY birth control and have test run to check glandular and organ functions, hormonal levels, blood sugar levels, then pick from a variety based on the hormone level or at least be able to have a 2nd or 3rd medication to counteract the effects of the birth control. Though no one wants to feel like a walking medicine cabinet and birth control has not advanced, side effects will always be an issue to weigh against unplanned pregnancy. I bet the test subjects used in the studies mentioned above where checked for any hormonal or glandular irregularities before being picked.

It's interesting that the lady who posted a few posts back is blaming craving sweets and bad eating habits for weight gain. I actually doubt that it's even a woman who posted that because I find that HIGHLY insulting to females. Let me just say that I am a vegan, I don't just eat vegan, but I eat low fat vegan and mostly raw food. I also do kickboxing twice a week and lead a very active lifestyle. None of that changed when I started taking birth control pills. I still eat the same, and let me assure you that I am not giving in to any "cravings" to unhealthy c**p food - my life revolves around my health. But I have stopped losing weight and have in fact started putting on pounds since I started. There is no other explanation for the weight gain. I also ONLY drink water. No juice, soda or tea - water only and lots of it everyday. I'm married and have three kids, I don't want to have anymore, but I will most likely stop the pill because of this.
I went on birth control when I was 16, I probably gained 110-115. I am now 20 and weigh close to 150. I am on Trinessa and do blame it on that. I was on Microgestin before and probably only gain 5-10 lbs. After, switching to trinessa I gained a lot more. I want to either switch birth control or find a really really really good diet. The option of going off of my birth control is not a reality for me. So any suggestions for either a BCP or diet?
