I know exactly what you're going through, I get every single problem you do and I get so tired and hurt that I can't get any housework done (I'm only 23 years old) I wish someone could find out why this happens to us so I can tell my husband why it's so hard for me to do the housework when it hurts this badly :(

I personally think doctors these days have no idea what they are talking about.

I'm anemic and have been having heavy heavy blood flows that make me faint and all they are are just HUGE blood clots that are the size of golf balls, i went to the doctors and they told me i was perfectly healthy, perfectly healthy my butt, I wouldn't be this way if i was perfectly healthy.

I also have had the same symptoms and I have severe endometrosis....its not fun and the doctor needs to do a laposcopic exam to check for this. I luckly was able to have two boys but mine didn't get severe until after my second child was born. We tried for a third child and I was unable to get pregnant and thats when they found it. I had a mild case of it until then and after birth it rapidly grew. I have had two surgeries since then to remove endometrial tumors in my overies. my latest period was so bad with blood clots I bought small diapers because the pads were not wide enough. I know i am getting graphic but I am telling you guys its not a fun situation and its one that does get worse over time and a hystorecomy is not an option my doctor wants to do right now. But i do think its going to be an option here in the next year or so, because i can't keep going through this.

So I am 20 years old. I have had my period since i was 13. It was pretty regular in my first couple years. But ever since around when i was 16-17 they are totally irregular! Sometimes i will go 4 months without one, but then i will get it very heavy for like 3 weeks! And when i mean heavy, i mean it. It can soak through the highest absorbency tampon in 10 minutes! and a pad in about one hour. It gets so bad sometime i will wear two pads to bed! IS this normal? Has anyone else had this happen? I am too scared to go to the doctors to get a vaginal exam or anything like that because i am overweight and very self conscience. Help!

Okay So I've like just been through most of the things you are desribing. And been misdiagnosed with everything until nine months ago.

If you are having irregular periods then you could just have polycycstic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). This actually makes it hard to control your weight and means that your cycles aren't the same from month to month. Excess body hair is another sign of the condition. There's a bunch of things you can try and going on the pill is a good way to get your cycles running.

The other thing that could be causing the clots is Fibroids. These are benign growths in the uterus that most women have and don't realise until they get pregnant and they're noted on the scan. They cause the surface area of your utuers to increase and therefore you produce more blood. Clots are an indicator that a woman may have these.

I would recommend you see someone as in my case the fibroids distorted the shape of my uterus and stopped the blood being able to flow out. It would build up inside me (I was having terrible pain as I was bleeding into my abdomen) and then sometimes when I changed position it would unblock and everything would come out in one go with terrible cramps - nice huh. It was horrible to happen but I wish I'd seen someone at your age and put a stop to it all. I just had five fibroids taken out and I totally have my life back. You're body is the only thing you'll ever own and if it makes you feel better I'm so totally not a stick thin model! Go see your doctor and get your life back.

I have been reading thru many of these posts, and I would like to comment on your posts concering Blood clots and cramping. I am 31 and have had painful periods most of my adult life, along with some clotting. I recenty became aware of some herbal vitamins specificly for women. Here are some that i have found useful in relieveing pain and discomfort along with other PMS syptoms. Chasteberry aka: Virtex, False Unicorn Root and Dong Quai. These all have been helpful for me and are worth trying for yourself. Also to relax & help relieve PMS also try some Red Raspberry leaf tea & Red clover tea, mixed together these are wonderful natural way to keep women healthly without chemicals and dr visits. Just try these herbs and see if they help you first, before you spend more $$ at your gyn. Feel free to do research on all the above herbs to have a better understanding of which each one will do to help you. Also please be aware that you will need to take them at least a month before you will reap the benefits. The tea will help right away, for relaxing but the herbs need to be taken a month prior to your menstral cycle. Let me know if this helps anyone at all.... :D

Ok so after reading everyones post it has be a little more worried then what I started lol. I myself are having some similar problems as everyone else. I am scared that I am bleeding to death! I have always had irregular periods since I started and that wasn't even until I was 16, but anyways I was put on the pill when I was younger to regulate them it helped some but they were still irregular this past yr it has been at its worst. It started last yr I think I didn't have a period but maybe 2 times last yr well when it came around to I am thinking the end of January 08 I started and it lasted almost a month, and since I am use to having irregular periods I didn't think much of it because i hadn't had a period for a long time I just figured it was getting rid of built up blood. Well after it ended that time I didn't have another one until the middle of September 08 and I am still going. At times it will be light as if it is stopping and then as the day goes on it will get so heavy that I am changing my tampon hour after hour and passing tons of little dark red clots. Now I am not to knowledgeable about female issues and I have never been the one that likes to go to the doctor but I am really scared this time. I just now got into a good job that offers me insurance so all I am doing is waiting on my insurance card and I am going to make me a appointment, but I am soo scared I hate the doctor or maybe I hate what the out come of this is going to be. I have always wanted kids and to think that I cant just kills me, but I am also afraid of bleeding to death so please anyone thats went through this let me know. And yes I am overweight so that may be part of the reason but there are so many possibilities this could be I just hope its not the one I dont want!!! So confused!!

I am just turned 36. I had a really heavy and painful period which started the end of August and lasted the usual 7 days. I was due again about September 24th and it didn't come. It finally came on October 11th and felt totally like a period and had several small thin clots, which I wouldn't usually get. How do I know if it waas actually a period or if I was pregnant with bleeding. I got implanon inserted during this time of bleeding and although in ways I am fine, I feel really off in other ways and I know that some people can have a bad time with implanon. Help!

I am only 19. I have always had irregular periods. They have always been extremely heavy and really painful. I have just recently got on the pill to get them somewhat to normal. The pill I am on is Tri-Sprintec. I have only been on it for a month. I got about a week ago. I am still on it and the last 2 days have been horrible. I have always had a little clotting and after reading the above posts realize this is somewhat normal. But what does it mean when your period is practically only clots, barely any loose blood. Also it is so heavy that I am making trips to the bathroom literally every 15 minutes. I have given up and found myself just sitting on the toilet or in the shower. This is the worst period experience I have ever had, please help I can't even make it to my college classes becuase its like i pee my pants with blood every 15 minutes :-(......

--I'm 20y/o. Ever since I first had my periods (13y/o) I've always had irregular periods, not to mention very rarely.. maybe once or twice a year. When I did have my periods, the pain would be horrible. At night, I would just crawl into bed with my mom and cry, cry, cry till I passed out. I couldn't even go to school. We went to a health clinic and the lady put me on birth control. After the first month, I had gained soooo much wait that it was ridiculous. I refused to take them again. I played sports and did all kinds of activities to drop back down but I could never get to what I used to be. I don't know why but my mom never took me to a gyno. So last year, when I started working and got some insurance.. I finally got the nerve to go see a Gyno. Thats when I was diagnosed with PCOS. I had mentioned to him about the birth control pills incident in the past and that I would hate to have to go through that again. I was given a shot. Once a month for 3 months, I went and took the shot. And in those 3 months I had lost 30 lbs and dropped 4 pant sizes!! The shots had regularized my period for the time being and helped with the weightloss. Then the gyno had a long talk with me about giving the bc pills another shot since I had lost some weight and hopefully I can control it now. Since I've been taking the bc pills it's like I'm having more problems.. and this is only my 2nd month! The first 2 weeks of last month, I had a very bad allergic reaction on my legs and arms that would burn and itch terribly, but was never really sure to what it was. I blamed the bc pills because that was the only pill I had taken those 2 weeks. I skipped one day to see if it was the pill and sure enough.. no allergic reaction. Then of course the next day I got my period.. which lasted 12 days. Heavy bleeding, blood clots the size of an apple, bad cramping, sore legs, swing moods, all of it. I went to the gyno and talked me into giving it one more chance. This month I didn't get that allergic reaction like I had last month but I ended getting my period after the 2nd week of the pills, I still had 2 more weeks to go before I was supposed to get it!! Wierd thing is, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, I only bled in the morning (one time). But today, Monday, it's not just in the morning. On top of that, I hurt so bad I just want to cry (I'm at work). I don't know what to do anymore. Midol, Tylenol, or Ibiprofen are not helping. Help!!!!!!!!!

I am sorry to hear that you are going through this.

The same thing started happening to me around age 14 or 15 and over the years has progressed to the point that I am in extreme pain and vomiting, passing out, and having a fever and it now happens every month.

After suffering with this for years, I read about endometriosis, brought it up to my gyno, and she agreed that it was a possibility so I had a laproscopy done to check for endometriosis. Turns out I was right. They removed all visible endometrial implants during the surgery and now have me on a continuous birth control regimen so I do not get my period. It might be valuable for you to mention this to your gyno and see what he/she thinks.

Good luck!
