I was so scared when I saw a big boil on my vagina few days ago under shower. Can someone tell me if this is a sign of something serious, like genital herpes? I would really like to know more about it. I will go to my doctor soon.

In order to know what your condition is and the cause of it, it is important for you to go to your doctor. Genital herpes is an infection caused by the herpes simplex virus or HSV. There are two types of HSV, HSV type 1 and HSV type 2. Both of these types can cause genital herpes. Type 1 most commonly infects the lips causing sores known as fever blisters or cold sores. This type can also infect the genital area and produce sores there. Type 2 is the usual cause of genital herpes, but it also can infect the mouth during oral sex. Both types can produce sores in and around the vaginal area, on the penis, around the anal opening, and on the buttocks or thighs. What is interesting is that most people who have genital herpes don't know it because they never have any symptoms. The other reason for this is that they do not recognize any symptoms they might have and when there are symptoms, they can be different in each person.
