Find a Cure, I apologize if I seemed abrupt. That was not my intention. If this Doctor has pinpointed Corticosteroids as the root cause of your problem then that is Wonderful news! My comment about steroids was meant to point out that neither my wife nor others use steroids or used them at the time the "swelling" began. We must remember that we have no photos to go by. We may not all be discussing the same "swelling". I practiced Medicine and Pharmacy for 30 yrs. Though my career was cut short by physical disabilities I try to keep up as much as possible. However, we cannot "diagnose over the phone" as it were. The only thing I can say about "Find a Cure's" situation is; Thank God. I'm sure we are all thankful to your Doctor and wish you the best. I will post more thoughts on the subject in a separate letter. Docmex

Hi Docmex,

Thank you for what you wrote, I appreciate that. I guess being sick has caused me to be a bit irritable as well. I'm continuing my search for answers not only to how to get rid of the lumps but mostly how to get healthy again - for all of us.

You mentioned in your other post that the doctor said it was something different when it was only on one side? My right side was the only side that was swollen, and the shots I received were Flu, Pneumonia, and Tdap, no steroids.

Have some of the same symptoms. Just went though a thyroid biopsy today. Radiologist seemed to think it was nothing more than a cyst. Explained that the thyroid can develop & get rid of cysts quite frequently.
Also have the neck swelling on both sides of me neck. Left side is more prominent than right. When my ENT looked at it, she described them as "fat pads". Could be from strained neck muscles, possible node drainage or stress.
When the radiologist looked today, he said it was "brown fat".
Either way, they both agreed its absolutely nothing serious!
Believe me, I hate it as much as everyone else, but I think the more we stress about this, the worse they will be. Look up fat pads & brown fat, I think you will be relieved. Good luck!

Hi I am so glad to be reading this. My History is: I am 55 years old Menopausal, smoked for 39 years and quit just 7 months ago. this swelling on both sides of my neck right above the collar bone started about 4 months ago. I also have some swelling under my arms. It doesn't seem to feel like lymph nodes. more like fatty tissue. I was thinking it was hormonal from the combination of quitting smoking and being menopausal .

I am 62 and a bit overweight but other than that I'm in good health. I too have this swelling above my collarbone. I have excructiating neck pain stemming from my spine. I've just noticed swelling on both side but it is much bigger on the right side. It feels gel like but sometimes it feels hard. I will be going to my doctor in a few days, hope to get some answers. I'm the type of person I will not rest untill I get an answer.

This is what I know. Everyone has backed up lymph in America. It is due to our diet. Please read Arold Ahert's book The mucusless Diet Healing system.
You can also contact Dr Robert Morse talk to them. They will get you cleaning out your lymphatic system with herbs.
I have cured myself of Fibromyalgia with the Raw food diet and it works. Still waiting for the pads to leave tho.
Blessing to all.

Hi Arg!

I also have the swelling on both sides of my neck and bad pain in the back of my neck where my head and neck meet. The swellings are always there now but some days are larger then other days. I also get dizziness and nausea on some days. It will be two years in August since I got sick. You can read my journey in past posts. There are a group of us that have been seeing doctors and posting what they say in hopes we can find answers. After being sick for a long while, my doctor put me on Lexapro for depression and it has made a difference....not in making me better, but in helping me better handle being sick. Please, keep us posted in what you find out. Together maybe we can did.d an answer......

Hi DeeDee,

Thanks for posting. It was just confirmed that I have Fibromyalgia and I continue to search for answers as I refuse to let Fibro control my life. I started reading the book about the mucusless diet and made an interesting connection. There is another doctor who uses guaifenesin (an expectorant) to reverse fibro. So is mucus causing this... and other illnesses too? I did a detox for candida and my white blood count came back into normal range. I'm a firm believer that all of the drugs I've put in my body over the last 2 years have caused this... Pain killers, steroids, muscle relaxants, etc. I have taken a natural approach and continue to try to eat healthy every day. Thank you for writing, it has confirmed that continual detoxing and eating healthy may be the answer for me. My fat pads are still there also, but feeling better is my top priority now.

Hi, I'm Elyne and live in INDY. I have many recent S/S of illness; one of which is this ever increasing mass between jaw line half way to corner of shoulder (bra strap). I found a link to heart disease by searching the net. I have been diagnosed with aortic mitral valve stenosis and/or aortic aneurysm. One doctor says its one thing and another says its the other! Go figure...they're just practicing - - -ON US! I have had hyper-thyroidism Grave's disease that God healed me of using herbs. I've also had MRSA (misdiagnosed for two years). After diagnosis, a pharmacist suggested I try Pfizer and get ZYVOX. I tell you this because using high-power anti-biotics and/or steroids for prolonged periods of time will cause side effects evidencing over longer periods of time. Go to herbalists, pharmacists and lastly, but not least, the Great Physician, God Himself for healing answers. The answer usually lies within yourself. The spirit supercedes the body, right?

I am a 52 year old male with this problem, and I do not use steroids. I just read all 14 pages of this topic (took 2 hours to digest) and then just had to put my 2 cents in. Thank all of you takign the time to put your own personal experience out here on the internet.

I do not smoke, and I drink moderately (2-3 glasses of wine each night). I am not on steroids nor have I been near them for over 10 years. I am overweight by at least 50 pounds. I eat only a little red meat once per week, the rest of the time I use soybean substitutes, chicken, fish. I have high blood pressure, high cholesterol,  and I take medicine for it now, and that was prescribed only 2 years ago.

Since March (5 months ago) I have lost 35 pounds. So when my wife commented on these fleshy bumps on top of my collarbone last night, I thought they were visible because of my weight loss (I was thinking like how tree stumps are visible when a lake is drained, weird huh).

When I touched my collarbone and felt them for the first time I panicked. How alien it feels when you suddenly realize that something is not normal within your own body!

Each bump affects a skin area of about 4 inches. One side touches the neck, but the "high point" of the bump is about 3 inches away from the neck and is about 1 inch high.  It feels like a small water balloon. There is no pain. In fact I am healthy. I have zero pain anywhere in my body, not to sound arrogant, just pointing out that there is no known other illness in me. I work indoors, office environment, but I sit on my butt for hours on end (taking time out every hour for a 5 minute walk around the office hallways).

I read in an earlier post that some posters had had dental work done and the posters believed that that had led to these symptoms.

Four weeks ago I developed an absessed tooth in my lower right side jaw. I was put on Amoxicilyn (sp?) and two days later I visited my dentist. He perform a root canal on my tooth. I have temporary filling until the end of August when he will complete the root canel and put a temp crown on the tooth.

Leading up to the dental work I was in considerable pain. Following the dental work I was in pain for 3 weeks until finally the swelling in my jaw went down.

During that time and up to and including now I have never had a fever. I took ibuprofen (200mg * 3 tablets) every four hours mixed with Tylenol every 4 hrs,  scheduling them so that they did not start at the same time. (per dentist advise)

I talked to my dentist (via his nurse) today and asked if they had ever heard of this. Of course not. The nurse is going to ask the dentist if he can call a stronger antibiotic prescription into my pharmacy.

I am no doctor, but I am thinking that the infection from my jaw lodged inself somehow in a lymph node. I will follow up on trying to get antibiotics from the dentist. I am going to see how these lumps are on Monday (its Friday now). If these lumps do not go down I will go see my regular doctor. I need to go see him anyway for a followup on cholesterol and blood pressure so I don't think I am throwing money away.

Good luck to all of you. Please. If you find a fix, please come back and reply here? I will do the same.

I've had swelling around my neck too and it starts from near the back of my ear and comes down almost halfway down to my neck.  It is not painful, but I have had other symptoms for example pain in my throat (almost like it is sore, but it comes and goes), I have had chills, fever, headache and a bit of an upset tummy.  I went to the doctor and he made me feel really paranoid.  He thinks I've been prodding it too much which has caused the swelling.  I told him this was not the case but I don't think he believed me.  He gave me pain killers and sent me away.  He said my symptoms were not related to the swelling (I don't believe him).  Its now been 5 days and the swelling is still there.  I think I'm going to struggle to get some diagnosis on this one as I've searched the net and so far this has been the most useful page as I don't feel like I'm alone and others have had the same issue too.

August 13th 2012: I posted the above on Thursday. Its Monday. The swelling went down over the weekend. I can still see the swelling but it is not as large. I am not sure what to do. Both sides are equal shape still. And no fever and other signs of infection...

Hi everyone,
Im a female, 38 years old with swelling off and on for a few years. had a splenectomy, so I have a compromised immune system. I am on warfarin as Ive also had 12 blood clots to my lungs after surgery and have had a deep vein clot before. But ive noticed this swelling tends to get more severe after ive been sick, due to the fact the infection goes straight to the lymph nodes because i dont have a spleen.
I just have a theory after reading the above, that we may all be experiencing an overload of toxins or infection, which is filtered through the lymph glands, causing the swelling. in all cases the need to rule out blood clots, or cancer of course should come first.
relations to spinal problems is another confusing link. Fat? maybe in some cases, but fat doesnt hurt like these gel packs do when they are swelling. So it has to be a filtration thing.
