My Boyfriend (33yrs) has quit smoking cigarettes for almost a month now after smoking for about 20 yrs. We use to have sex everyday and now it has been almost a month without. He came home from work last night and asked me if there was something wrong with him, and if he sould just start again. I feel like saying yes because the four years we have been together and now he seems so different. Its not like it was before at all. Will he get his sex drive back? Is this normal?

That is not true at all, quitting smoking does lower your sex drive but it will come back, google it there are alot of explainations to this online!!! It is frustrating, my husband quit, I am pregnant and I thought there was something wrong with me because it is like he has no interest unless I instigate it all the time or else I would have to go without so I googled it, totally made sense! Don't worry I am sure he isn't cheating on you!

I agree with the last response..I quit smoking almost 3 yrs ago and after that first week or 2 without nicotine, I had NO interest not even in masturbation....but somewhere in between 60 and 90 days, of not smoking, I felt 10 years younger , like the 'energizer bunny'

Its a major change, esp after smoking, putting those toxins in your body for 20-25 years,,,then suddenly stopping...Im sure you notice he smells better too:)

I have the same problem, quit 1 month ago. Handyman: just to clarify, you're saying your sex drive got back to normal after 60-90 days? I'm really worried about this...

There is no need to worry. I think quitting can mess up your dopamine levels. Smoking raises these levels, so when you quit, your brain has to figure out how to balance it out again without the smokes. It takes time. When I quit I couldn't even masturbate for a while as I felt on edge, and the sex drive was gone. As a smoker I had no problem in this area.  But after a few weeks, or a few months, your sex drive will come back, stronger, and you will find sex is even better as your stamina levels increase.

The first few weeks were hell, my emotions were all over the place, but giving up smoking is the best thing you can do, you will feel normal again soon enough trust me I've been through it .

I think people need to realise that when you quit smoking, especially after many years with the habit your body goes into super healing mode. I smoked for over 20 years and did not expect my body to heal over night but nor did I expect all of the detoxification side effects I would experience for several months after quitting the habit. I can say this, it is not uncommon to experience a decreased libido, lack of energy, extreme fatigue, flu like symptoms and the list goes on. You will however from my experience feel so much better after 3 months and your motivation will definitely be reinforced. Good news, your libido will return and will be better than ever, energy levels will increase and smell and taste improve dramatically. When quitting smoking you can often experience a bitter metallic taste for quite some time as well, this can be very annoying. 3, 4, 5 or even six months worth of discomfort after decades of indulging the smoking habit is really a very small price to pay, give your body a chance to purge these toxins.......yes it is hard, very f...ing hard but if you stick it out I think you will be amazed at how quickly the body can heal itself. Exercise is very important in helping the body purge toxins and try assisting your progress by introducing micro nutrients into your diet........vegetables, herbs, green powder etc are good regular options. Above all good quality water is paramount (kangan water is a good option and you can research through google, the system is expensive but I swear by it). Good luck everyone do not give up. I quit after about 6 years of smoking and after a bout a week of quitting my sex drive was incredibly improved. My penis had a lot more girth and is as solid as a rock. I was also able to last a lot longer. Like until she tapped out where she would finish me off... Definitely quit smoking if you're a guy...

I didn't smoke but did chewing tobacco. It's not a question of sexual desire, I really want to have sex w/ my gf even though I'm going through withdrawals. I just can't get it up. And the more that I want to, the less is happening, and it's freaking me out. My libido hasn't gone down at all, my body just isn't performing. Has anyone else experienced this, it's got me freaking.

I've smoked non stop since I was 14 but quit 3months ago (cut down gradually) as smoking cigarettes and weed really messed up my sex life ... First few years I was still an energiser bunny until I hit 18. I'm now 24 but my Energy levels were low, wasn't really bothered about sex at all, sometimes wouldn't have sex with partner for days then maybe once for literally 2mins. It was really puttin me down even more. Since quitting I made a few other changes because I wanted these toxins gone! I started a gym, do 12-15mins cardio (light jog) after every session, eat a lil better and drink lots of green tea to help flush the toxins. Now I can go twice a day atleast 4 times a week with these small/simple changes ... It's hard but if you discipline yourself and want to feel like a man again, it's worth it! And you can do it. My mood also improved a lot and feel more confident in myself in all situations ... Don't just stop and think everything's gonna change in a few days. Stop then start exercising, green tea detoxing and eat some fruits n veg whenever you can and these symptoms will clear a lot faster ... Quitting is only step 1, your body will then need to heal so fuel yourself up with goodness ... Remember, feeling good starts from within!
