Without going into great detail, I had little idea how Bravo worked, I just got informed about the product after my Nissen Fundoplication procedure (without gastrostomy tube) and trusted the doctor as most of us do.
Procedure went fine, results were had, BUT nobody ever checked to be sure the Bravo passed out of my body. A year later I was in ICU and my stomach herniated into my chest cavity and I almost died 3 times (wish I was kidding). Took two surgeons 5 hours to save my life (1st Time) and had to remove 3/4 of my stomach (and the year+ old Bravo unit), but the fight wasn't over as I had over 2L of septic fluid built up in my body and they had to fly me to a Trauma 1 medical center to remove the fluid and another set of surgeons saved my life again (2nd time), only to still have issues as my throat had completely closed and later had to again do surgery to save my life yet again (3rd time) to open it up. Now a year later, I am lucky to be alive and going thru therapy learning to walk again, etc after being in ICU soooooo long. I lost over a year of my life and the pain and suffering I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy continues to this day.
In short, I believe Bravo is likely a good product when all goes well. Medtronic is likely a good company when all goes well. The doctor that did my surgery is likely a good doctor when all goes well. But in this case things went terribly wrong and only by my son pulling my medical records did I even learn this detail of what had happened. Yes, nobody said anything. Now we have $844,000 in medical bills and it isn't over yet.
What do I do?? I was never the kind of person to get lawyers involved. Not a big lawyer fan (No offense lawyers), but likely need to go that way, but looking for advice/alternatives. Anything.
