I have had a burning sensation in my right side groin and leg for several months now. This is only when lying or sitting down, no probs when walking and minimal when standing. Saw the Dr three days ago and she found a problem with a muscle in my right side lower back/upper buttock. When she pressed her finger into the muscle the pain was instant and sharp.Have been advised to have physiotherapy on the area as she believes the muscle has gone into spasm and is putting pressure on a nerve which is causing the discomfort to my leg and groin.

Ive been having the same problem for a month now,ive been doing a couple off tests in the hospital but they never found what was going on with me,the closest answer i got was from a doctor who told me i had hernia, but through my research i came accross a hernia called Hatial Hernia ,and the burning sensation your are all getting is from the acid reflux it provoques,

I strongly believe that these symptoms are related to nerve damage or nerve irritation in the spine. I had lower back surgery in 1998 and when i woke up my right thigh area from my waist to almost my knee was numb. It has not got any better. But in 2008 i had disc replacement in my cervical spine c-1 and c-2 and since that surgery i have been having the pain in my right leg groin area only when i am about to cum. It has to be a neurological condition dealing with the nerve's in the spinal column. Either a pinched nerve or inflammation of nerve's in the spine. That's just my opinion and what i have been experiencing as a result of pinched or irritation of the nerve's. Wish everybody a pain free life.

Question to all:

Do you notice it only happens when your scrotum/balls touches your thigh? (sitting vs standing)

Does sitting with your legs spread more to the sides make it temporarily less burning?

Warm environments/weather make it worse?

For an answer to your question 1. Yes, it tends to increase when I use jeans that are tight in that area 2. Yes, for me to focus in classes, i need to sit with me legs spread apart. 3. It has only been 2 weeks, and its cold here so cant really answer that. I really need help with this!

Hello. Of all the articles I've read online, and the discussions I've had with doctors, dermatologists and neurologists trying to explain & identify what my problem is... The last 2 comments above best describe my symptom! I call it my invisible rash. I've had it for 3 years now - nothing seems to help and nobody knows what it is. The skin looks normal, no rash or bumps at all, but at times incredibly uncfortable stinging burning on the right side only - up where thigh meets scrotum, and for about 5-8cm down right thigh. (Only on the right side!) Skin contact between the 2 surfaces makes it worse, hence me needing to sit with legs open to seperate the contact bettween my balls and rhigh for relief. Tighter jeans definitely make it worse. Warm/Hot weather seems to agitate and bring it on more. It can last for months at a time, then subsiding, but I always have a sense that the wrong clothing or conditions can trigger it. It is in truth most unsettling. I'm forever 'adjusting' myself to relieve the crotch discomfort.

Im In great health generally but this 'thing' is the thorn in my side. Doc gave me the all-clear for bacteria or viruses some time ago. Dermatologist tried me on a cream called zostrix HP - often used for shingles. I thought it worked but that was shortlived (and rather painful). Anything skin related was ruled out after 3 dermatologists.

More recently I saw a neurologist who looked rather puzzled. he thought it might be an inflammation of the genito femoral nerve. Had a dye injection and quarterzone shot in the area but it hasn't worked. Going back again soon.

This problem is very much affecting my life, and I'd be very very very keen to hear from anyone who has found success with diagnosis, let alone treatment! Thnx

@ALL

If you have the same thing and my previous comment questions apply to you then these thing are probably also familiar:

No burning while sitting on a toilet seat ( )

Riding a bike is no option anymore, much worse than sitting.

Giving problems while trying to sleep.

The longer you sit the worse it gets.

Putting something between your thighs and balls stops the burning (don't know for how long)

It is only on contact with your balls (left?, right? or both) and thighs, Not your hands or other material?? (not tested)

It can go away for days, weeks, or months and come back. the severity also changes.

I unfortunately do not know what it is, what caused it and how to cure it....

Sounds about right to me Anonymous3. So frustrating. I might take your analysis along with me when I go back to the neurologist next month. I'm experiencing my invisible nemesis pretty bad at the moment!

Fyi Ive experimented with several different washing powders too, and different fabrics as well. I see no pattern or relevant culprit!

Is anyone else experiencing this - Until 3 years ago I only ever wore briefs - as in Y-front type undies. They are truly unbareable with this condistion, forcing me to where boxers under my clothes always. unfortunately thes create there own problems with my manhood dangling about and feeling uncomfortable - again causing regular discomfort.

Honestly,,, what wouldn't I give to get 'back' to a place where I can just where my Y-front briefs in peace, all tucked in nice and comfy, without bouncing around and without intolerable unexplained stinging.

If anyone has any theory on what the problem is exactly, or a good guess.. please speak up!

The only other thing perhaps worth mentioning in teh interest of scientific discovery is that for me this all started one day after soccer training in the rain. That's why for a few months I treated it like a 'normal' fungus/athletes foot situation, despite never seeing a rash. I haven;t had that for years since being a teen (I'm now 39). Alas, I think that was a red herring. Still, interesting that it started after a rare 1.5 hour training session in the rain 3 YEARS AGO! just a coincidence perhaps
Thanks

mk73, I don't know which sort boxers you have, but there are also ones that are more lets say tighter from the inside more like the Y ones you mentioned to hold your balls and manhood from dancing with every move.

I have been to the neurologist because i first thought it was because of pressure when sitting and because of the sitting symptoms of Pudendal Nerve Entrapment (PNE). http://www.pudendalhope.info/sites/default/files/NantesDiagnosticCriteria.pdf

But after a few small nerve feeling tests it was concluded that my nerves where not damaged. The neurologist said if your nerves were damaged you would have constant pain. My options were do nothing and see if it improves (i already started using a U or O shaped cushion) and or get pain relievers, which i did not because than i could not know whats causing it or when it got better or worse. If no change, then i should make another appointment. options for later or if it really is PNE than injection of cortisone in that area or surgery could be a possible next step (which eventually might cause more problems and were not recommended)

If it still is nerve related than it has to do with contact or warmth i think. There is also something else called contact dermatitis.

Strange thing is we can't see any visual symptoms, though in the beginning when it there also was a stinging feeling my thighs did look a little red, but my general practitioner could not see anything and thus would not know what to.

It's going better now for me, but i don't think it will go away so simply. Something about warmth/cold i noticed was when i was in my room (usually is warm) and it was warm (not hot) while sitting a little it became worse and when opening a window and cooling my room it went down a little. On vacation in summer in a hot country it was sometimes so worse that it burned a lot and made it really uncomfortable when trying to sleep in bed or sitting.

Another characteristic is when you sleep you won't be waked by it and when you wake up it's much better till it gets worse again by sitting strange huh? maybe still some nerve. I also thought about a bacterial infection (fungus/yeast/candida/worms) because it worsens when its war (burning feeling)

I think some of you may be dealing with what i am dealing with. Sitting aggravates the pain, rest alleviates the pain. From what I have found dealing with this over a year going to every doctor you can think of and researching on my own this is pelvic pain syndrome either caused by inflammation, muscle tension or pinched nerve in the pelvis or lower spine. Not many doctors specialize in this and when every other specialist cannot find answers its time to seek a pelvic pain specialist.

There are 3 major routes you can go (1) medication to treat the nerve inflammation, to treat the pain, to treat the infection causing this (if infection related). (2) physical therapy by a trained pelvic pain PT. (3) surgery to correct the nerve damage.

I am currently trying medication for nerve inflammation (neurotonin) and starting physical therapy (which can take a year to treat) surgery is a last resort after injection therapy, if electing surgery get a mrn not a mri scan. most mri's will not detect nerve damage you need a much better image from a mrn scan to show the nerves. I am also crossing off all infection related causes all sti's -neg up to a year including herpes which i was sure was the cause but to date i am still negative.other infections can cause nerve damage anything from a uti can get access to the pelvic nerves and cause havoc.

This takes time unfortunately to diagnose try a urologist that deals with pelvic pain usually found at a large teaching institute, also give PT a try from a good pelvic pain physical therapist ask your neurologist about medication to treat this as well. Good luck to you all this has been a year of hell for me and am not out of the woods yet. Fortunately I have been recovering slowly but surely.

Review some pelvic pain sites you can see how your symptoms all are related to this from tight clothing, excess sweating, exercise, sitting even driving and orgasm aggravate this condition.

Hi guys. I want to first thank you for all of your posts. They have been helpful. Not to scare anyone here, but I have been dealing with the exact symptoms mentioned on this board for a little over 8 years now...yea that's not a typo, 8 years. I remember when it first started how badly it affected my life, my attitude and ability to enjoy things. In recent years I have learned to deal, but I'm always searching for a cure which is how I found this board. I can say that I have also seen countless dermatologists, neurologists, urologists, acupuncture, tried drugs, creams, ointments, had MRIs and even a spinal tap (which hurts like a b***h). But after years of attempts no one has an answer. While reading Matt's post I am inspired to look into pelvic syndrome. Maybe there's something to it. I don't care if it takes a year, I don't want to live rest of my life like this. I will let you all know how it goes! Thank you again and to each of you god bless and good luck!

Thanks all, we have a little more info now at least..

i was also thinking, could this be something that is caused by worrying or stressing about something maybe our body which lead to this? if many people have something like this maybe that could be why. Though i doubt it

I have a hernia just above my right scrotum, had it for a number of years without any trouble. In the last 3 months or so I have had a sharp very short duration pain in the area everyone is mentioning, right side. It is like a quick stinging pain, useally after I have been sitting down at the computer and get up quickly. Two nights ago it was the worst pain I have ever had. So, I do believe in my case it is related to the hernia. I am in my mid 60's. I am seeing my doc this Wednesday to have her evaluate the problem. I will give all of you an update. All these posts have been very helpful.
