I was getting pain in my knees and legs causing me to squirm and pain, and in general be really uncomfortable that night and the next day, one time unable to get out of bed! I was thinking it was alcohol related even though sometimes I would only drink a glass of wine... I am a lot more frugal with my alcohol intake now and it SEEMS to have cleared up...

I have been diagnosed with having carpal tunnel and am waiting to get enough money saved up to take the time off work to get the surgery done. i am 40 years old and a very occasional drinker. I have noticed that after drinking just a few beers I suffer from much more severe pain in my wrists and knees. It has taken me over a year to learn that things such as alcohol and chamomile tea can cause me a great deal of pain. I must agree with several of the other posts that it is in part due to dehydration.

Yea, this sucks. I'm 20, and I get terrible ache through back of my calves and my knees... Everytime I drink, when I get drunk the next day, I feel this... I'm pretty used to it from all the summer parties, so it really does not affect me... its just really uncomphy when ur sitting at work working on things... I feel like i gotta keep moving my legs to keep them from feeling this way... or if i lay down and sleep a few hours it just goes away.......
i don't get what causes it..... and it sucks... but w/e.... life goes on ahaa

I was so glad to find this discussion! I lift heavy weights and compete in fitness and have never suffered from joint pain. Recently, I began cracking like crazy in shoulders, knees and other joints. It seems directly correlated to my consumption of red wine. As one post mentioned, it seems like it occurs even within minutes after imbibing. I am going to try staying off of alcohol. The cracking is really annoying and embarassing. I have had joint pain and limited motion with it, too. Any chance it is merely aging or menopause?

Yes I get this too(just in the right knee), Its definately alcohol related, I call it booze-knee. Thought it was gout, it wasn't. It seems to help if you warm the joint up, put a hot water bottle on it or something.

Hey, I know that alcohol can cause gout, which is a condition of severe joint pain. I'm 23 yrs old, and from 19-22 I drank almost everyday. Alcohol does affect my body now. My knees and ankles can be quite stubborn after even a few drinks these days. And because I'm really into skateboarding, I try to steer away from drinking that often now. That definately contributes to my joint problems but I think alcohol inflames my knees or ankles.
Definately drink a lot of water before bed, that's my only tip for you. A 2 litre milk bottle filled with water shall suffice. But it's the most important thing you can do if you want to enjoy the next day. More water than you can handle. You'll thank me in the morning.

I have been reading all these nearly countless postings; and I must confess that I truly relate to them:
I'm 57, 220lbs. I used to be a powerlifter and body-builder for 30 years; and I am a martial artist since 1st grade-school.
So, all my life sport, heavy sport.
And, all my (adult)life drinking beer. And, never any problems.
Problems did occur though when I stepped over the threshold 50: my exercise vigirousness is not as it was, my joints hurt, my muscles are sore - even without any workout. And, many "hidden" injuries of decades ago, surface now.
I used to drink 1 liter beer, every day, now it's 2, even sometimes 3.
Is that related to my increase in beer, or in age?

Same thing happens to me. Has for years. Im 30 and have only had this type of pain the day after drinking a little heavy. I SKATEBOARD on a regular basis sometimes jumping off stairs an over obsticals and steep drops for hours. But this pain only comes if I drank the day before no matter what activity I was partaking in.

Hello all knee suffers out there here is a brief précis of my condition I have chronic pain in my right knee.at the moment I get roughly an hour and a half before the joint stiffens so much it won't bend so I have to swing it to move this doing the job of a chef is extremely painful.I have had knee problems for 15 years after a joint trauma bleeding of the knee causing arthritis.I had an artheroscopy opt twelve years ago . And gold injections.in both knees. This did incredibly well .lasting 11 years without a day off( not bad eh,!)ok on to the related alcohol link I am a heavy drinker. I'm not really sure this was to stop the knee pain or just an excuse.my suspicion is a bit of both. I have now got to the stage where I am giving up alcohol on the off chance it will lessen the agony I have reached the stage where the pain is out saying the pleasure. Some further background I am male aged 48 . I will keep all interested parties posted on my progress, I just hope I'm not to late. Also as of fri 5 I am due to have a cortisone injection to the right knee, I will keep you posted on that.

I'm 18 and I have similar symptoms. Although my knees are affected its usually my elbows that cause the most discomfort the following day. Could this be the same thing?
