I had a TURP procedure done a year ago but I'm still suffering from nocturia (due to my prostate, I assume).
My urologist told me that it can take up to 2 years for the benefits of the TURP operation to fully take effect.
I'm not experiencing any other serious urinary problems like I did prior to the surgery, but I still have to get up to urinate up to 6 times throughout. I've been following a pretty strict diet to alleviate an over active bladder and I take Myrbetriq once a day as prescribed. I stop drinking and eating 6 hours before bedtime, but I still suffer from serious nocturia every night.
Can it really take up to 2 years for the TURP procedure to work?
Hi!
Yes, it can take up to two years for the TURP procedure to work. TURP is a long-term treatment that requires time to show its full effects. After the procedure, it can take up to 12 months for bladder control to return to normal.
Your urinary tract will need to be fully healed very soon. If not, you should seek your doctor for consultations.
