Like someone else posted, I too have stopped taking ibuprofen for a procedure and subsequently have developed full body aches in which I do not attribute to an illness but believe it is from ibuprofen withdrawal. In fact I ache so much I couldn't help but take a dose knowing I will feel better and can function within the next 20 min. That seems like an addiction to me

It sounds like you could possibly have chronic Lyme disease. It is exactly how I felt for several years before I finally did alot of research and found a Lyme Literate doctor. You can have it even if you do not remember being bit by a tick. There are places where you can watch it on your computer. Let me know if you need to know more--

Although I haven't read the entire thread, what I find a little odd is you people are smart enough to research and try to figure out if Ibuprofen is addictive and has negative long term effects.

So on a dailey basis you ingest this drug to remove pain, pain that is caused from what, "inflamation" What your not looking into, is what exactly is causing the root of the inflamation.

Do you consume sugar and wheat every day like most of us and probably in massive amounts. These two foods are probably the foundation of your pain and inflamation. At the age of 38 I was having a hard time working out in the gym, my elbows, my shoulders, my knees, basically most of my joints always hurt. I started taking Ibuprofen, reccomended from my trainer who is obvously addicted. Sure it helped but I never got better, only worse. I then cut sugar and wheat out of my diet after finding out how toxic it was overall, not only did I not need the IB but I got ripped, stronger and looked better then I have in years. It takes awhile and it will be hard to remove sugar and wheat because like IB they too are addictive drugs but if you care about your body enough you will make the change. The side effect of not sugar and wheat are you lose weight and have better energy.

I have since started eating sugar and wheat again during the holidays, gained 8% weight in a few months and have started noticing I feel shitty again.

Omg I have the same issues. I am having muscle and joint pain and the Drs don't know what's wrong with me either. Maybe its from the ibu ive been taking it for a month or so before the months the pains started. That's crazy. I'm having withdrawals symptoms chills..shakes..muscles pain joint pain..headaches dizzyness etc. Now I'm been taking it now for months months now. If I don't take them every 6 hrs my body freaks. I take 800Mg every 6hrs. I don't know what to do..cause the withdrawal symptoms suck I cant deal with it. I think I'm going to talk to a Dr to what to do.

Thank you, I need ibprophen daily, I thanked about 800/1200 mg every 4-6 hours while I'm awake and feel this soreness and feverish after the 4 hours is up, I was thinking I was crazy

It is true that ibprofen is generic for advil. Acetaminophen is generic for tylenol. Naproxyn is generic for aleve. But... Naproxyn and ibprofen are both nsaids. Naproxyn is just 20mg stronger than ibprofen and ur not supposed to take them together. Easy to overdose.

Yes and no. The body can get addicted to it but the person doesn't. It doesn't make sense. I can tell I'm addicted to ibu, but its not overpowering. Its like I need it to keep the pain away and not withdraw. If she stops now, she will go though withdrawals.

Wow, I feel not so alone after reading this thread! I began taking ibuprofin daily after jabbing my twins 8 years ago - I had body aches without it. Now, I still take ibuprofin every day...6 pills (1200 mg?) each morning with a lot of coffee and water. I strongly agree with the idea of addiction, not at all in a "narcotic" sense wherein I'm just waiting for my next "hit," but rather that I truly sore in my body - achy, dull flu-like pains for sure - and that I know ibuprofin prevents/stops that from happening. I began exercising a lot, watching what I eat, and drinking a ton of water a couple of months ago. I lost about 30 lbs, and decided to, as part of my healthier lifestyle, to quit my daily dose of ibuprofin. Well - I'm about 2.5 weeks into THAT, and I feel awful. So, so achy and sore all day long. It's never ending... I actually took myself to the ER at the hospital because I thought I may be having a heart attack, my chest is so sore and I'm having such trouble taking deep breaths. So - idk. I really never had any bad side effects from taking the ibuprofin, though I guess I can't exactly see how my liver/kidneys are doing. I'm pretty sure I'll take some when I get home tonight. I just want to feel better again.

Hi, I'm currently addicted to Nurofen plus (ibuprofen 200mg and codeine 12.8mg) and used to take Zapain (paraceta 500mg and codeine 30mg), I can't take the zapain anymore because as soon as I stop with the nurofen, I get really ill, like I am now, I just got back from the shops, had to buy some nurofen and after having took them 20 mins ago, I'm already starting to feel better. Now here is the bad part, I take about 8 of these pills at once, sometimes twice a day, that can equate to 3200mg of ibuprofen, and when i get my Zapain, I don't tend to buy the nurofen as it is usually expensive. Headaches, nausia, aches and pains, lump in throat, sweating profusely, constipation AND Diarhea, It burns to piss and i can feel the burning in my bladder/kidneys, I can go on and on the list of problems is endless. Instead of taking 8 earlier, i took 6, and will take 6 for the next few days where I will try move onto 4 and so on until i only take 1 a day then I believe i can quit. Ibuprofen is the culprit here, at first i thought it was the paracetamol or codeine, but after reading about ibuprofen withdrawal, this is what I have. Here is some advice, stop taking them, I wish I could, so if you have the willpower to stop, just do it, us guys truly believe life is pain, but until we get off the ibuprofen, you will realise that is what is keeping you in pain.

I have been suffering from the same symptoms as you described. Have you been able to over come this or found any type of cure?

ibuprofen and tylenol are not at all the same thing. Ibuprofen and advil are the same thing as Advil is he friends names. Ibuprofen does not cause liver damage and leave the system quickly which is why doctors will prescribe it in high doses for those with chronic pain. Tylenol taking for very long and or in high doses can destroy your liver overtime to the point of requiring a liver transplant or death. The active ingredient in Tylenol is acetaminophen whereas the active ingredient in motrin and Advil is ibuprofen. In other words ibuprofen is the generic name four advil and Motrin amongst others and acetaminophen is the generic name for Tylenol amongst others.

Actually, I've been told by multiple doctors NOT to take Ibuprofen and Aleve together. They are in the same family. Tylenol is safe with either...of course in the recommended amounts.
