I have been using a different type of shampoo to the one I normally use. It makes my hair look really great, having transformed it from dull and flat to voluminous and shiny. So far, so good! It was an expensive shampoo from a hair dresser too.
But mysteriously, my face got covered in acne at the same time I started using the shampoo. Now I am scared the two things are related. Am I totally out of my mind or is it really true that some shampoos can cause acne? The fact that most of the acne is rather near the hairline seems to make this even more likely as a suspect.

Absolutely, there's no doubt about it: shampoo can lead to acne.
Not only does your shampoo come into contact with your scalp and hairline, as well as to a lesser extent other parts of your face, while you are washing your hair, but residue of shampoo can also constantly rub on your face afterwards. If you have started using a new hair spray or serum at the same time, I would examine those too.
Sodium sulfates are notorious for causing acne, and they are a very common ingredient in hair products. I would start by checking your ingredient list for those.

Yes, it can. Because you mentioned that you recently switched to a new shampoo and especially since you said it was around where your hair is, you have most probably already identified the cause behind your recent acne outbreaks.
Personally, no matter how great a shampoo makes my hair look, if it made my skin look terrible, it would be out immediately. There are other shampoos that will make your hair look just as great without causing you to break out.
If you've recently started new facial products like cleansers and moisturizers, suspect those as well however. In that case you will need to go on a "cosmetics elimination diet". :)

Ugh. That sounds nasty. Yeah, if I were you I'd stop using that new shampoo along with anyone else I just started using pronto. If it causes acne, no matter how great it is for your hair or whatever, it obviously isn't working for your body! I've heard that shampoos cause acne in people sometimes, especially if they ain't quite rinsed out properly you know, but I wouldn't take my chances on extra-rinsing in the hope that it would stop the break outs. Just bin that b****r I say! Hate acne.
As for cleanser, Cetaphil is pretty much supposed to be the gold standard.
