Chateal is the worst birth control ever. I would rather go without any birth control at all then spend another second on this pill. I am usually the happiest person in the world and always calm and level headed, after three and a half months on Chateal I've become an emotional wreck. I'm constantly crying or angry for no reason, I've had multiple panic attacks while taking this pill, I'm always nauseous and I hardly eat anything anymore but for some reason it's made me gain so much weight to the point where my legs now have stretch marks. Planned Parenthood will only give you this birth control and they switched me from Reclipsen to this and I'm stopping today. I would rather take my chances with a condom then become this depressed, psychotic person. I can not express strongly enough how much you shouldn't take this pill. Not even once.
How can they only offer one bc script? Surely they have other options! Go back and ask them and make sure they know that you've developed panic attacks, seemingly out of nowhere on this pill (that's a legitimate concern and likely due to too little estrogen). There are certain birth control pills that are actually dangerous to give to certain women so I don't see how they could only offer you one option!
Also, I'm right there with you (hate birth control pills) but if you're gonna go with just condoms then definitely download a fertility tracking type app so you can track which days you're most in danger of conceiving. It's not a perfect system but its a lot better than operating blind.
I had no side effects until recently, been on it for 5 months and all of a sudden I've had headaches, stomach issues, acne, depression, loss of desire, hot flashes and dizziness. I am going to stop it this week. I'm only 25.
Sucks you're having such a hard time but at least you know the culprit, right? It can take awhile for hormones to regulate--or in your case de-regulate I guess. The way the pill works is it supplies your body with synthetic hormones and in doing so suppresses the production of your real hormones. Sounds like it took about 5 months for your body to stop making its own hormones.
From your symptoms it sounds as if you're not getting enough estrogen which makes sense considering this is a low dose birth control pill. If you're planning on staying on the pill see or email your doctor before this pack is over and ask them for a higher dose estrogen pill. Estrogen has a bad rep these days but don't be afraid of it cause it's good for you. Also, something interesting about birth control pills is that they are actually formulated to give you lower hormone levels that you'd naturally have--or so I have read (seems to fit with my experience, at least).
Think about it this way, women gain weight, lose their sex drive, and often become depressed due to menopause and it's all due to a lack of estrogen. Anyways, if you choose to just quit the pill altogether don't expect the problem to automatically correct itself; it will probably get slightly worse (due to no estrogen at all) and then slowly better over like 6 months to a year.
I just got rgis today from my doc and took my first one now I'm scared af...can't find one good review
I have been on this pill for almost a month now and the only side effect I've experienced is sore breasts and occasional cramping. Those are normal period signs for me however. I also skipped my period when I started the pill. I love it!
I was currently on Chateal for 3 weeks.Didnt even finish my first pack due to side effects. I was constantly irritable &edgy. My feet felt extremely achy with severe swelling even my hands started to feel achy which was weird.Nausea was so bad I rarely wanted to eat.Side effects got worse each day i kept on taking. I stopped when I couldn't take anymore of the misery. I stopped on a saturday and by monday my body was back to normal. Happiest person since off Chateal.
I also had achy hands, I didn't make the connection until reading that. I stopped mine 2 weeks ago and feel almost 100% better. Anti - Chateal I am now!
I just started taking this only 4 days ago, and within those four days, I've noticed I am more fatugued than usual, and I've had hair loss like crazy when I shower. Normally, a few strands will fall out in the process, but the last couple of times, there have been clumps ending up in the drain. I've always been on Depo since I was a teen, and its been years since I've last been on BC. I'm usually not one for the pill, but I can say, I'm not pleased with this generic brand. I've tried Yaz as well in the past, and by no means is any BC I;ve tried not given me extreme side effects. So my best best is always condoms or not having sex at all.
I've been on this pill for 3 months aside from headaches & the occasional nausea in the mornings I've got no complains. I think it's a great form of birth control & so far has been effective. Other women having bad experiences should just switch to other birth control and stop giving Chateal bad reviews because it obviously is working for me & other women too.
I have been taking Chateal for about a month and a week. I been feeling horrible i be gerting this headache, nauseas, cramps, very sleepy, lower back pains and worst of all really really moody. I am going back to Plan Parenthood and letting them know whats going on since thats the best thing to do.
I have been on chateal for almost a year now. At first I loved it. I didn't notice any side effects. A couple months ago. I started getting very emotional all the time and very bad irritability as well as anxiety. I would not recommend it to anyone. Unless you feel like having mood swings all the time. It absolutely sucks.
I'm almost finished with the third week of taking Chateal and the only side effects that have occurred so far were some cramping, a few headaches (but I have always gotten them even before taking the pills), and only being nausea once so far. Also I'm two days late on my period and I'm not sure if it's a good thing or bad thing because I've read that you might miss your period, but I also happened to have sex around the end of my second week and the condom accidentally broke. I was still getting cramps the days before I was supposed to get my period though.

I've been on Chateal for almost two years now and I absolutely love it. My doctor told me that it was perfectly okay to skip taking the placebo pills. As a result, I never get my period so I can't really comment on that aspect.. while on the pill I rarely break out like I did before, even during times of intense stress, and I haven't experienced any mood swings or irritability... Everyone's body reacts in different ways so I guess I'm just one of the lucky ones... Personally, I'd definitely recommend it since I get it free from Planned Parenthood but, based on the other reviews that I've read on this site, if you have other options you should consider those first!
