I had stomach issues my entire life, so I can sympathize with my son. His issues are different than mine. He has been complaining of stomach pain above the belly button since yesterday. He's had a soft diet. No fatty foods, dairy, etc. He eats fine, drinks a lot of water, but on occasion feels nauseous. Nothing comes of it. He's not constipated, nor does he have the runs. So things seem normal. He is fine when sitting still, but when he gets up to move around, he complains of his stomach. He's homeschooled so no issues there. Ideas? Also, my son is 12 going on 13 I wonder if hormones or growing pains play a role.
Hello. Here are a few possibilities to consider:
-
Gastrointestinal issues: Stomach pain above the belly button can be related to conditions such as gastritis (inflammation of the stomach lining), gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), or peptic ulcers.
-
Functional gastrointestinal disorders: Conditions like functional dyspepsia or irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) can cause recurring stomach pain without any identifiable structural or biochemical abnormalities.
-
Growth and hormonal changes: Hormonal changes and growth spurts during adolescence can sometimes lead to stomach discomfort and growing pains.
-
Stress or anxiety: Emotional factors, including stress or anxiety, can manifest as stomach pain in some individuals.
You can encourage your son to maintain a healthy diet, stay hydrated, and engage in stress-reducing activities. However, it's crucial to seek professional medical advice for an accurate diagnosis and tailored treatment plan.
Best of luck!
