I recently had a reversal. It's great to be rid of the bag. Since you are a year out, you might be able to answer my question. I am a physically active male. Almost excessive workout. Surf, kite board, swim, run, etc. My BM's are close to normal, and everything is going ok. My only, and major problem, is my abdominal muscles. I still have some minor pain there, especially when I used them. I'm anxious to get back to my training and active schedule. How long after your reversal were you able to do a sit up, because I sure can't now. Playing golf was painful. I am now 7 weeks post reversal. Any ideas on when I can expect to get back to normal? Thanks.

Im sorry you've had to experience something so awful at such a young age. But you will be okay and things WILL get better. You are experiencing so much pain because your body has undergone a pretty invasive procedure. The pain will eventually ease. If it doesn't you need to listen to your body and let your parents know that you feel further evaluation is necessary, better safe than sorry. I had some complications which caused a lot of pain and it turned out I had infection.

I had my reversal about a year ago and I still experience pain, my Dr.s attribute this to scar tissue and multiple adhesions.

Prayers for you, and know that through this ordeal you will be stronger and will be able to help someone else down the road one day.

Hope this helps.

I too am gaining weight after the reconnection of the intestines even though the food i eat seems to race through my body. It's encouraging to read what your doctor said about your body self-regulating, but I hope that's true. Does anyone have a solution to this in the meantime?

My doctor told me when i have my colon rejoined he will cut out about 12 to 15 more inches. Has anyone had this problem before and what was there out come.

My wife just had a reattachment after six months on a colostomy bag,

they used a Eperdimal instead of anesthesia. She went in last Tuesday

and is coming home today. Everything went well, she had a emergency colostomy too but in FL, we live in NY. It is scary being 1400 miles from away from your home and your family. But they saved her life, another three hours it would been all over but the crying. She is doing well,

you have to have it done. I know it scary but it better than handling the bag each day.

It has been a long journey and Thank God I've learned to deal with it for the sake of my children, My question to you is will it be painful to make my first bowel movement after my reversal?

I had my reversal March 6, 2012. Like yourself, I work out excessively, but more importantly, I am an avid kiter. I had an intestinal blockage which led to the need for the bag which I had on for five a half months. It truly is a test and hard on your spirit. I can tell you from my experience, the abdominal pain will be there for a while, months. Almost 9 months later I still feel it, but I am back to norma activities. It took several months to be able to do a sit up. I did kite in PR twice while I had the bag last February. With bag off, I now am back on the water in challenging conditions in PR. My doctor told me that it can take 6 to 12 months for you to feel normal, (I'm at 9 now and still feel the incision). Your biggest concern should be getting a hernia, so don't exert yourself for at least 3 months. I did stationary bike and upper body weights. Good luck, be patient. It's a bad deal, but better than the alternative.

Wow amazing stories. I have had a colostomy bag for 1 yr now after having a major flare-up of colitis. The fight not to have the bag nearly took my life and I fought so`hard not to have it, My body gave me no choice or else I would have died. I am so looking forward to my reversal but the surgery scares the dickens out of me. They have to reconstruct my rectal area to get rid of the colitis. I am scared but excited to get rid of this annoying attachment. I am on a waiting list in Calgary Canada and its already been 6 mths past when they told me I wouild have it done so hopefully soon. I feel in limbo. Thank-you all for your stories as they all help..everyone of us.!
