I had colostomy for 15 mos and was afraid to do the reversal due to what I'd read. Had the surgery which included adding an illeostomy for 4 weeks then reversing that. It's now been 4 weeks and I wonder if I made the right decision. Fine for first 3 weeks, now anytime I eat I have sudden rush of diarrhea. Must wear an adult diaper. If it doesn't improve I'll be sorry I did it.

OMG, I experienced almost the exact same thing and my emerg surgery was on same date except in 2017--Jan 23. I'm scheduled for reversal July 31. Did you have your reversal and how did it go?

I just had the reversal surgery after waiting a year. Had a lot of scar tissue in my abdomen, a large hernia and the reversal a month ago. Very tired now, sick in the mornings, and was short of breath up to a couple of days ago. Going to see the surgeon to see why I feel sick most of the time tomorrow. Can't eat much at a time. Seem to be healing well tho so that's good. Someone told me it takes 6 weeks to feel better. We'll see!

I had my reversal a month ago. Nurse told me I'd sleep better with a fan going all night. Did help. Still very tired and can't eat much at a time. Feel sick every morning so going to see the dr tomorrow. I was told it should take 6 weeks to recover. We'll see!

I was told it takes 6 weeks to recover but it's been a month so we'll see. I also read that it takes a year for the puffy abdomen to go back to normal.

My colostomy was an emergency due to ruptured diverticulitis. I was in hospital for two weeks. Surgery was Feb 16 and I returned to my desk job April 1. Scheduled for reversal in early Sept. Although I was very sick I recovered and am healthier than ever. Bag has had little impact on my life. Still swim and exercise, no weight lifting though. Apprehensive about the reversal.

I had a reversal on August 11th and went back to work the following Monday. I have an office job and very little stress. With the exception of the bloatedness and the discomfort from staples that are to be remove tomorrow, I was feeling okay. Sunday, I felt great and decided to cook a big dinner that included pinto beans. Since then I have had shooting pains in my stomach that last less than five minutes but very painful. This started Monday and today is Wednesday. Got some GasX and a stool softener, had a bowel movement, passed lots of gas but still having this occasional pains in my stomach. Trying my best to holdout until tomorrow's and not go ER. I've barely eaten anything and actually I'm afraid to each at this point. Has anyone else experienced this?

I can't believe you went back to work so quickly! My husband had his reversal on 7/31 and is still very tired much of the time. He has shooting pains but they don't last long. Your body has to be very stressed because it's putting your energy into healing and has to work too. I know ER can be expensive but if there's something wrong an ER visit is better than having to have another colostomy!
