I had the same surgery oct 6th 2016 they left my stoma area open to heal on its own. It's pretty much closer up and there is a big scab healing up but I kept hearing a popping sound in that area almost as air was coming out so I checked I noticed there was a little bubble in one area so I squeezed and puss and blood came out. I'm still having a little pain and soreness and I too feel my food digest and same feeling as you. I'm worried because the area started healing up it hasn't bled once the hole closed from the inside that all stopped until I squeezed and that's when the blood and puss came out. I'm so worried. Is this normal?

I had mine a month ago and was concerned after what I read I before hand , but I honestly have to say I had no problem after the surgery what so ever except for the stomach pain which I expected and I do have pain from time to time through out the day but believe me so far everyday I thank God because wearing that bag was indescribably a nightmare and I too had mine for 14 months and was worth having the surgery . Good luck

I had my reversal done 4 mos after due to personal decisions. As u said the pipes work and I too got an infection and had to have an open wound which is still closing. I have occasional cramping on my right side. Sometimes more severe than others. Makes me nervous but my surgeon and nurses say I'm doing fine. Good luck.

I had an emergency colostomy on 4/27/16 and spent a week post op in the hospital. Because I was so weak and facing a long recovery I opted for two weeks in a rehab facility. That turned out to be the best decision as there were doctors, nurses, PT, and OT right on sight. When I got home I was much better equipped to go through the long recovery process. I had the reversal on 8/11/16. This surgery was laparoscopic , a much easier recovery, only 3 days in the hospital and then home. I felt pretty good after 2 weeks. I am now 5 months post 2nd surgery and feel almost normal, just a tad short on energy and still need to be careful with meals.

thanks for everyone sharing their experiences. I had an emergency colostomy October 2016 due to ruptured/abscessed diverticula. (one 20 oz abscess and two 30 oz abscesses - fever 103 and excruciating pain over entire belly). Surgeon removed six inches of sigmoid colon and installed a temporary colostomy. I was in the hospital for over 3 weeks mostly due to pain. I still had pain for several weeks after went home and long car rides are painful (seat belts...) I still have formed mucus and very small amounts of stool that form in the disconnected bowel and are passed rectally. I often can feel like i need to go just before the stool passes into the stoma. Surgeon said 3 to 9 months of bowel healing before the resection. Well it's now March and just had colon scope as prep for resection of sigmoid colon on March 20th. Doc said everything looks great and only 1 diverticula remains (right next to stoma and that last one will be removed as part of resection). So looking forward to getting rid of the bag and ending 12 years of diverticulitis attacks! I will post my progress. I am hoping for a quick recovery and good control of bowel movements post resection.

Amen, no bag. Had one for three months. Just got home from hospital on 4/6/17 after reversal surgery on 3/30/17, 930 am. I am looking on this site for pointers because, frankly, I am tired of running to the bathroom. My #^#$^ hurts from so much wiping. Looking at prescriptions wondering why they are giving me so many stool softners when I already have the runs as it is??? Does not compute.

Exactly 4 months ago underwent emergency surgery for perforated colon and peritonitis. Was told about the stoma a few seconds before surgery. Barely managed to ask if it was forever...was told 3-4 months. Have not recovered from the trauma and can't see myself undergoing major surgery again so soon. After consulting with 2 specialists understood it is NOT a must so soon before one recovers. Unfortunately, was diagnosed with Arachnoiditis a year ago and the only efficient pain management treatment is narcotics (Percocet). Was told this medication causes constipation...which led to perforated colon due to dry faeces which led to diverticulitis. Before this was healthy and active (67 years old). Identify and empathize 100% with all those who have to cope with stomas and all their complications. Developed a parastomal hernia 2 months after surgery and now am scared to death of the second surgery (more complicated than the first according to the colorectal surgeon I consulted 3 weeks ago). Have lost faith in doctors and the medical profession since found out Arachnoiditis was caused by the injection of Depomedrol into my spine. All this has been a downward spiral since I damaged my back 5 years ago: wrong diagnoses and treatments led to the present trauma.
